One of the worst aspects of 3D is how unbelievably grotesque the characters can look if they are not designed well. Cheaper simplified 2D toons can be forgiven since they are not so uncanny valley horrifying when they are minimalized. But 3D....that shit needs to have a minimum level of care or else it will be that sweet spot between fucking disgusting and nightmare inducing

Oh fuck, I completely forgot about that. As a kid, I enjoyed a lot of movies that are objectively pretty shit, but even my juvenile mind couldn't wrap around that shit-fest. It's honestly amazing how badly they executed every aspect of that movie, from the reluctant-predator trope, to the pop-culture references, to the eternally shitty and tired "liar revealed" trope. I think if they got a decent team of writers, they could keep it pretty good. I mean shit, I wasn't expecting the Lego movie to be any good when I saw the trailers at first, but I was still pleasantly surprised.

Goldfish at least has the benefit of having a little bit of a world and characters built up already so you know what you're walking into, but not so much that they're locked into something with no wiggle room.
