Everything could have been done better without any real effort to do so. The best recent example is Ashi's part in the last episode.

Why not give her a good fight with her mother over the episode with some cool sequences, art or whatever? Instead we got a cringy sequence of killing shitty orcs that made it all look even worse. And of course because of that the actual encounter with her mother was dumbed down aswell.

The horseman was a spooky ghost man trying to get Jack to kill himself. Jack dropped his sword down a hole. Ashi's mom is some crazy bitch who wants to suck Aku's dick even though Aku obviously doesn't give a shit about her if he even knows who she is

This seemed really unnecessary and isn't really forwarding the plot out side of buying time to give Ashi a chance to grow up but we could have done that without a time skip anyways. It's not like Aku didn't know Jack was coming and he's had plenty of time to rule the future.

I don't get the difference between anger Jack, doubt/depression Jack, and horseman. They're all the same thing, story-wise; an inner demon Jack has to vanquish. There's also little to no work attempting to differentiate between them in a concretive manner.Beating the horseman through willpower, then beating anger through willpower like it's some new test, is redundant and repetitive. Maybe if those aspects interacted with each other in some manner, it could have been better conveyed that they're a council of inner demons that feed on each other, and that Jack's voice is stifled in that choir. Something that would convey the message "I took him out, and now I'm coming after you. You're powerful, but without depression I can beat you"

Seven episodes in, my only real complaint, albeit a minor one, is that the pacing is a bit rushed, at least by Samurai Jack standards. IMO this season would have benefited greatly from a 13 episode season in classic Samurai Jack fashion.

The horseman was representative of Jack losing the will to live. Every time he hallucinated or witnessed some new horror, the horseman beckoned. And when Jack thought the children had died, he finally gave up and followed the horseman.

The Inner Jack is a representation of Jack's repressed negativity. His anger, his depression, his resentment. Instead of letting it out, he let it boil inside of him until it ate him alive, making him unworthy of the sword.

Over time Jack began losing perspective, and came to feel as if his actions had no lasting consequence. He would never get back to the past, he would never defeat Aku, and innocent people would pay the price. It took the perspective of someone he saved, Ashi, to help Jack put things back into perspective, to realized that his actions DO matter and that he CAN still save the world.

But it wasn't until he took the time to meditate and self-reflect that he was able to remove the inner negativity that made him unworthy of the sword in the first place.

It's all pretty basic and easy to understand IMO.

Why did Jack get punished for killing the goats, anyway? At the time, they were demon possessed by Aku's evil magic and were actively attacking him, and as far as Jack knew this was just how they were going to be for the rest of their lives. Yeah, Aku tricked him by having the goats revert back to normal after they died, but defending himself against monstrous enemies that are actively trying to kill him isn't exactly "slaying an innocent".

I bet whatever monster Jack encounters in episode 8 is going to tear his gi to shreds and he´ll have to fight Aku almost naked. He didn't lose the sword because killing the goats was wrong, but because killing the goats (combined with Aku destroying the last portal) made him lose hope. It was the psychological result of the act and not the act itself that made him unworthy.

I think the main problem with the show is that (at least so far) it reached it's artistic peak with Episode 2.

It's similar to how Up peaked with the opening montage, the rest of it is great, but compared to the opening it pales somewhat.
