Molesting cosplayers.

Also, rape.

Fucking cosplayers.

If you don't cosplay yourself then don't even bother.

For non comic/vidya ones pretty much just comes to having a place to reveal your power level.
>>
>>91973835
vs pictures of cosplay
>>
As time goes on, there are less and less interesting people to go see ("professional" cosplayers,) and more and more annoying people there (wannabe "professional" cosplayers.)

Still, the whole point of a convention at all is to meet people with the same interest. It's overpriced, but fun.
>>

Meeting other fans.

Even an autist can understand that.
>>
>>91973552
It's more than just that, sure you get to meet celebrities and that's cool. But you also get to see cosplayers, meet people with similar interests, not much there other than food is all that scaled up in price so merch buying is a fun activity. It's lots of fun!
>>
>>91974252
Also you get to meet really cool artists and indie writers, as well as a few pros! God I love conventions!

Gross. Conventions are for meeting comic creators, and buying prints from them and supporting them directly. Especially if they're older creators and indie ones. It's also good for panels, buying issues, and meeting other people who are into comics.

Mallrats, clerks, he had a large niche following in 90s that influenced a lot of people that thought he might become something some day and he ended up going nowhere with it and then became a tool.

We've long understood that Saturday's aren't worth doing for the rest of us because they are so busy, so we just use that day to look around the City.

>mfw there's a con coming up next Friday

It's basically the one time of the year I get to meet people that like things I like, buy some merch, buy some posters, buy some comics, watch some panels, meet some artists to get some advice from and dress up as characters, some more obscure and hard to recognize than others.

So far, I dressed up as The 10th Doctor, aged up version of pic related, the Scout from TF2 and Ben 10 from Omniverse (which very few people recognized, but I guess not many people care about the show in here). I plan to add Apollo Justice to the list, but I bet even fewer people will recognize him.

As for guest actors, they are the ones I'm always least interest in, mostly cause our Con can't afford bigger names and mostly because said actors are from GoT, which I don't watch.

Not to mention the most exercise I get all year, where I stand up and/or walk for hours and circle the Con 40 times in a row.

It's fun times!

The answer is always the Artist Alley. Or hell, even just going to indie comic conventions for an afternoon. Comissioning quick sketches, realising that artist whose work you follow online is kind of a douche, stumbling across the occasional diamond in the rough or chatting with folks who aren't particularly busy about what their current projects is are my biggest draws towards going to conventions.

I go to conventions to:

1) Meet creators whose works I enjoy. If they've got a panel I'll sit on it and try to talk to them afterwards. If they've just got a table on the floor I'll go there and talk to them. Matt Wagner, Stan Sakai and Sergio Aragones are always a strong draw.

2) Find stuff I would otherwise have a bitch of a time trying to find. Most of the time I can find comics I can't find locally. That's how I've gotten my missing issues of Lobo and Glamourpuss. Fuck me if I can even find any issues of Cerebus past #150. Pro tip: Wait until the last day of the con when vendors are trying to dump their remaining stock.

3) Get brief glimpses of what's coming out, grabbing free buttons and garbage that can be sold to suckers who didn't get the chance to go, look at irl cosplayers and either be disgusted or get a boner or both OR see the rare one that's actually very good.

Big cons (SDCC, NYCC) are a bitch to attend, mainly just trying to get tickets. Go to small/medium instead
>>
Meeting surface level "such a geek"s. It can be pretty fun if you're fucking around with friends, but past 2010ish there's absolutely nothing worth going for if you're actually interested in comics.

I generally find a lot of cool merch there. Some more obscure trades are still basically impossible to find, but almost any given single issue in the past 40-50 years should be readily available.

There are also usually some pretty good selections of MTG and old video games too, though I'm pretty well stocked on those these days.

The artists/writers are a nice bonus if you enjoy their work. I got to meet Darwyn Cooke and Brian Azzarello before and they were both pretty nifty. I also got to meet Dan Slott before he blew up (Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and the first issue of New Ways to Die) and he was a surprisingly nice guy.

How? I've never understood how people meet at cons.
>>
>>91985347
By talking about mutual interests.

Ever seen a drunk person at these conventions?

I think you'll find that many people face to the left or the right very often, anon.

You're not even interested in 4chan? Memes? Futurama?

Why are you even at a con then?

How?

When he was at my local con last summer, he was advertised as "from AMC' s Comic Book Men".

Someone implied I'd have fun and meet people. But I'm not good at either of those things.

I remember the good old days when m00t held panels at Otakon...
Conventions should be the exception to Rules 1 and 2.
>>
>>91987926
I don't think there's anything I do here that I'd want to discuss in real life.

They don't act that way right? It's their job to show fans attention at least that day.
>>
>>91988198

The point is that most of those celebrities are faking attention and doesn't actually care about the source material or nerd stuff, just about being hot on camera and banging better looking people than the nerds paying to see them live.

Of course, some of them do care about, and try their best to interact with fellow fans, but those are mostly creators, who in the end are looping to care about themselves.

If you can ignore that, it is pretty fun overall.

Pretty much these two things, and getting stuff signed

You tell people you post on /pol/ and suddenly every other person you meet is confessing they're secretly right-wingers.

A lot of black kids especially seem to think they're the only one.

I don't even do that, I just mention it if people ask me what boards I post on. They all start ranting about politics.
>>
>>91973890
the problem is that "nerd culture" made what conventions were for a secondary thing so you have to go to smaller events to do this...isn't that bad because they are usually cheaper but is sad
