>>91877768

to me the thing that annoys me about these styles, and what i find way too similar about them, is the style of linework, and the choice of colors.

the lines are very evenly weighted and there are hardly fine details, all shapes fit into a geometrical shape and the designs are very sparse within their silhouettes, for example, >>91878146 yeah they all have different shapes of faces and some differently shaped noses and eyes, but they are all roughly the same level of detail and simplicity, and apart from their noses and mouths their faces are very much half blank. No relief or volume going on there.

my other gripe is that they all have flat colors only seldom daring to fully saturate them, and they all sit in pastel tones, with shading being just darkened areas instead of using drawn-in shadows with intense black or a strong contrast of tones, or more shine and reflection, it's very uniform and boring.

i hate to be that guy, but it's old anime vs new anime again, there's nothing to "wow" you with presentation alone.

>This argument reminds me a lot of people who rail against “same face syndrome” in anime. Indeed, a majority of designs in animation follow a fairly slim set of design rules, and characters within a show will often have VERY similar silhouettes. But despite this apparently damning flaw, some people seem to be able to tell these characters apart!! How can this be?? Could it be that the human brain has specifically evolved to differentiate between small differences in human faces??

>No, of course not! That’s why no one watches anime! If you talk to someone who claims to watch anime, they will say, “I have no idea why I have watched Naruto these last ten years. The character designs are so similar that I can’t tell them apart! That is why I hate this show and all shows like it. What a waste of ten years this has been.”

Nah, they don't reason, they just use bait as a strawman they can punch without it punching back so they can flaunt their argumentation skills on a dead easy subject that has no nuances to reflect upon as a form of ego masturbation.

Because /co/'s only unifying aspect is the extreme levels of ego and the belief they stand for reason and love instead of cowardice. They will never make a statement about something that actually matters that isn't telling others to stop making statements and being un-PC.
>>
Yes guys, it's easy to make your characters look varied when you don't care about making them look like horrible monsters. Ren and Stimpy is supposed to be ugly.

It's also sad no one pointed out the horrible Cherry picking in the meme image, having the old cartoon screenshots be in-between face contorting shots while the new cartoon shots coming off a reference sheet.

The fact that image, despite clearly being Cherry picked bait, is still used on this site without a shred of irony honestly makes me really sad.
>>

>they just use bait as a strawman they can punch without it punching back so they can flaunt their argumentation skills on a dead easy subject that has no nuances to reflect upon as a form of ego masturbation.
I disagree, while calling everything bait is a thing that happens i don't think /co/ is part of this, call it tumblr or whatever but there is a crowd of people here who can't into ironic shitposting (thank god) so even obvious bait will be taken seriously, this is a double edged blade though because there are good sides about this

>Because /co/'s only unifying aspect is the extreme levels of ego and the belief they stand for reason and love instead of cowardice
what unites /co/ isn't reason or love, its how much everybody wants to fuck everything, not necessarily waifu shit, just the desire to have sex with fictional characters

The fact that /co/ takes bait seriously is both good and bad.

It's bad because it means that every week there will be one 500+ FUCKING CALARTS UNIVERSE thread with the same autismos arguing about the same shit over and over and over again.

But it also means that there's not a real "bait culture" here, so there'll only be one thread, unlike /v/ which has so many bait threads that most of them will 404 before getting even one reply.

>>91881453
I was talking specifically about Ren and Stimpy as per the OP pic, but you can get away with a lot regarding animals, they don't look very much like the animals they are supposed to look like, and many of their facial expressions make them look like monsters when freeze framed anyway (this isn't a bad thing, but it also isn't limited to those shows)

you know "jewing" is used as a verb, and "my inner jew" is an expression

for example "these fucking game devs keep jewing their players out of their money with endless DLC"

and "i really want to buy that figurine but my inner jew tells me i have to save more money for the black friday sales"

or "i feel like a huge jew but i'm gonna have to increase my commission rates since i won't be able to do as many this month"
>>
>>91882217
I feel you, but context and common sense are your best ways of dealing with this kind of shit, someone who has an unpopular opinion (the legit cancer) will try to sound right, a shitposter will just rely on screaming with non arguments so he can bait as many people as he wants, before jumping on conclusions pay attention to the context of the thread, the oldest tricks in the book are impersonating someone in the conversation (if the board has no IDs) and making bold statements that contradict the majority's opinion with no attempts at defending such claims (this is what separates unpopular opinions from shitposting, the attempt at trying to sound right)

In fairness, it's a slang that's more common in the US, so I don't begrudge you for not having heard it. It's kinda like how we call each other -fag for everything. Cartoonfags. Comicsfags. Animefags. videogamefags. Tabletopfags.

I understand the fag thing, it's like your a faggot for cartoons and all that, you would go gay for a cartoon because that's how much you love it, like how I'm a drawfag, I would go gay for drawing because that's how much I love it.
>>
>>91882586
Yeah but that's been around for well over half a decade and seen everywhere for everything.

Describing something as a Jew Cunt doesn't exactly come up regularly in most parts of 4chan. At least not on /co/
>>
>>91882693
>I understand the fag thing, it's like your a faggot for cartoons and all that, you would go gay for a cartoon because that's how much you love it,
It's not even that really. It's just a slang term. It has been used so much it's kinda lost meaning.
>>
>>91882322

That's sort of like calling something "gay" as an insult and then saying it has nothing to do with disapproval of homosexuals.

Like, I get you, but I can also get why some people would have a problem with it. You're reinforcing a negative association.
>>
>>91882693
>>91882586

"nigger" is also used liberally because we use the biggest offenses we have casually as a social statement.

vietnamese are riceniggers, swedes are snowniggers, arabs are sandniggers, italians are pastaniggers, people from detroit are nigger-niggers.

>>
>>91882782
And if they have a problem with it they're putting words into my mouth. I didn't mean jack shit, they're the ones who're taking what I say to be racist. If someone thinks I'm saying something racist by calling someone a jew or being homophobic by calling something gay then they're purposefully misunderstanding what I'm saying and I don't give a shit if they're offended by a meaning they created themselves.
>>
>>91882903
It IS coming from racial origins.

I mean the term is being used to the point of meaninglessness, like Matt Williams and "nigga", but fucking recognize where the term came from and don't be surprised people who don't hear it used often still assumed you meant it in a racial way.
>>
>>91882989
Their assumption is fine and well unless in cases like on here where it was obviously not racial, or say for instance they start getting offended after I say nigger and I clarify what I mean, if they're still offended and refuse to listen to what I mean, then they're putting words in my mouth and then judging me based off that, telling me to be quiet based off of something I never even really said.
>>
>>91883075
I think most of the judgement is now judging how butthurt you (or whoever

Well I'm just gonna stick to my meaning because i like it more, it has more heart to it.

Either way I do want to debate this and I think I have a few good points, so I'll just do it annonomously.

And that mainly is, is that most of these cartoon's main characters lack sharpness to them, all of them look too soft or curvey. Star from Star vs does a decent job at this because there are at least some sharp lines in there and she feels the most distinct a=out of all of these cartoons pointed out here, not including gumball of corse.

A good cartoon that did the softness on there characters well is Wander over Yonder, mainly because the characters had multiple rules that had to be followed when it came to there softness and there shapes.

Most modern cartoons hardly follow there established rules, have very weak shapes, and hardly ever even have a good line of action.

Another good example of a good cartoon is mighty magiswords, now hear me out on this one, it actually has a distinct and refreshing artsyle, and despite having a lot of tweening, it does have really good keyframes and it has a nice grasp on shaps and line of action.

And therefore accusing someone of /pol/ becomes overused and near meaningless.
Like fag or apparently Jew is already on 4chan.

>And therefore accusing someone of /pol/ becomes overused and near meaningless.

yet we just agreed that even the insinuation of /pol/ being present sends this board into a paranoid whining frenzy, because it's a a massive, massive boogeyman that is always encroaching and invading and derailing poor /co/

Goddamn it I want this now, or at least an episodr with star in primal mode
>>
>>91883434
So wait ... I'm confused now. Are you FOR /pol/ talk on /co/ or against it?
>>
>>91883529
So literally the camping episode with her father River?
>>
>>91883622

i'm against people acting like they didn't mean something when they totally meant it. And also people that pretend they hate "/pol/ talk" when they only bring up the fact that it's political or controversial once the topic is being contested by opposing views.

hugboxy fucking behavior typical of /co/.

so how long until "he" shows up?
>>
>>91883729
But wouldn't this answer simply be a different hugbox freaking out at people against certain contextless racial terms?

So basically it's all just two people, one screaming "muh hugbox" and another screaming "muh /pol/ terms" sarcastically at one another.
With both sides really accomplishing nothing cause a bait thread about animation isn't gonna convince anyone about proper universally appropriate terms for 4chan.
>>
>>91883832
There are a lot of different "he"s who are you talking about?
Barney man?
some cal arts anon?
John K himself?
>>
>>91883864
No, Candle Jack.
You always have to be careful wh
>>
>>91883864

the john k fanboy who probably made the bait image we're talking about.

too late.
I'm already here.

>But wouldn't this answer simply be a different hugbox freaking out at people against certain contextless racial terms?

no? because we expect people to have the bare minimum cultural imprint in an english speaking board, and reading comprehension while at it, instead of having a trained response.
