Ok, I just read through the first two issues, and why are so many of the guys they're fighting "supposed to be dead"?

Terrax, Avalanch and Pyro are expressly said to have been dead and burried. Mesmero was killed by one of the Dark Riders.
Masque was killed by Cable, Mellencamp killed by Jamie Mardox. (And then they cleverly don't reveal his name.)
