While he might be overly artsy and long cut-y at times, Genddy is something that is often severely lacking in cartoon TV shows: a strong creative director force. Watching both the original and the ongoing made me realize this. Most cartoons seem to just put all the burden on the storyboarders/animatics to control how everything goes together rather than having a director who takes a script and envisions every scene, every angle, every sound, and every line and works with all creative entities within the studio to piece it together as per a unified vision.

There's a reason why movies put the director at top billing. Because (s)he's the single individual most responsible for the outcome of the work.

because Jack realized, as did most other /co/mrades here, that the daughters were only powerful as a single striking force. they had no coordination and didn't use teamwork. he just had to pick his space, pick them off one by one, and that was that. it was extremely common in past Samurai Jack episodes for Jack to face a difficult new foe, barely survive his first encounter, retreat, strategize, and then succeed. Jack knew that Ashi was no threat by herself and, as he stated clearly, he never encountered a human so well indoctrinated. Ashi was his first real project in saving people after a long time of not giving a shit, making her part of his redemption arc.

Since it became a 10 episode series, he might've felt like adding more material to the story, which is fine in itself. I wouldn't say that anything is "rushed". Everything is given the necessary time to serve its purpose.

The problem, I think, is that the original seasons were famous for their willingness to spend entire episodes just building mood. I watched them for the first time a year or so ago, and the thing that really made me fall in love with the show was how episode 2 was nothing but setup and episode 3 nothing but fighting. Few animated shows are willing to spend more than the bare minimum of time on each plot element.

When people started watching this show, the first 3 episodes gave the impression that this season would have the same kind of pacing. These past 3 episodes have had a relatively quick pacing. Which is a turnoff for a lot of people.

You don't understand what the implications of this are. Often in storytelling, especially with limited time, an author will only show a couple examples of something in order to establish a character trait. In this case, Ashi's staring through the crack, catching the ladybug, and looking at the stars are all little breadcrumbs that establish a consistent character trait that is Ashi's love of nature. We don't have to constantly see it to understand this about her. There's a ton of offscreen time between the time she's a child and a fullgrown adult. You're illiterate.
