if "callbacks" means a continuing plot and lasting character development then yeah, it has those things and there are certain episodes that do need to be watched in order. not gonna lie that there are some one-off episodic ones that can be watched at any time because they don't change anything in the long run or add to the story, but that's not the entire show

if none of those are good to you or make you interested in watching more, the show's not for you. first 3 episodes actually aren't representative of the whole thing because different people who aren't around now had more control then, and the show's own identity becomes more apparent around the middle of the season.

Different anon but it moves slowly away from being fully episodic and you can really ruin the plot for yourself if you watch it out of order. Also some of the stuff builds slowly, so you don't get the feel of the changing tone if you jump in at the middle.
The creator also referenced Game of Thrones and Harry Potter as large parts of her "equation" for the show, as it happens

I've watched Wakfu, Bee and puppycat (Kickstarter version), Gravity falls, SU, WBB, and finally Gumball because of this board. Decided to watch this, and I couldn't stand it and turned it off after the first 5 minutes. Found everything about it annoying, even the opening.

That's the problem you mong. Storm the Castle is heavy, full of plot and action and hits so hard because you know who the characters are, who's sitting at the long table and what brought them there, what happened before, throughout the season, that ended up in this point.

If it's the first thing you watch you won't know who's who and what's going on and what's significant and what's at stake.
It'll ruin the episode itself AND the entire first season. "hurr there's action and plot", why would anyone want a bit of plot from the conclusion part when you have no idea wtf is going on? It's like starting a crime novel by cutting straight to the last 2 chapters before the epilogue to see if you like it

If you can muddle through season 1, it pays off. Season two, specifically post Bon Bon the birthday clown is handled extremely well save for maybe 1 or two episodes. The finale of season 2 also sets things up amazingly for season 3 to be the best Star vs. has shown yet.

Gumball is the best, Bee and puppycat was mildly interesting, before they changed the direction. WBB is alright, I like the backgrounds, the same with SU.

Star vs is one those shows that has, like, three good episodes in its first season, then undergoes miraculous turnaround in its second. The meteoric rise in quality is pretty insane. It's like they lined up half their writing team, had them shot, and used that as an example to whatever better writers came on after that.

The build up, pay off, motif embedding, themes and so on are specifically crafted with that context in mind. Your experience with the show was planned for under that proviso.

If you listen to an album on shuffle and don't like it or just listen to the singles that came out of it don't expect anyone to care about your opinion because you haven't listened to the album or partaken in that experience.

That's a huge part of the appeal of the show for me. Star is this invincible teenage powerhouse, and it does not matter to the real conflict in the show even a little bit.

Her combat prowess is just sort of a sideshow to all her REAL problems, and hooboy, does she have some doozies.
