Execution is important for a scene like this. Ashi burst from the tar pit with no detailed burn wounds and her facial expression was pretty whacky. If it were animated in the style of AT it would have even had less credibility because AT is purposely intended for light hearted comedy.

Now imagine a scene like that happening in a live action show like Game of Thrones or even an anime.

Ashi burst from the tar pit covered from head to toe in tar with sn expression of agony. Also while style does matter, context and subject is equally important for ratings. If in a completely serious scene Fin was dropped into a Tar pit a there would be reason to rate that TV-14. Fin has been severely burned in AT but its always in a comedic context. Plus remember that Samurai Jack used to be TV-7. Even if the current style doesn't fit some of the themes, at least in your opinion, it would be even worse if they changed the style to fit the theme. A show should have a consistent style throughout the entire series.

I actually want to talk about the dogs in this episode.

So Scaramouch tries to get on the boat disguised as a dog, but fails because the sign states that there are no dogs allowed. But after he does manage to get on the boat we see anthropomorphic dogs on the boat. Additionally, they seemed offended that Scaramouch was calling them dogs. How do we explain this?

The way I see it there are two possibilities. One, the dogs on the boat are highly evolved descendants of dogs, like the dogs from season 1, and they are allowed on the boat and they also take offense to being compared to their ancestors.

Alternatively, do you guys think it is possible that the dogs, like Scaramouch, were really not allowed on board and came up with some trick to get on the boat? We know from pic related that beings similar to dogs but not related to Earth canines exist, so maybe the dogs lied about being aliens? And maybe they were upset with Scaramouch and in denial about being dogs because they didn't want their cover blown?
