The first two episodes were awesome. The first two episodes. After that it went south more. Nothing to do with Ashi either, at least not for me. I think a large problem lies with the pacing. There's not a whole lot of episodes, so a ton of stuff is getting jammed into short amounts of time. This feels like the kind of show that-after it's done running - /co/ will dislike. I want to like this show but nothing in the episodes I've seen have really wowed me or encouraged me to continue. I was expecting something with much more gravity, but it's really interspersed with the lightness you'd expect from a show by the guy who made Dexter's Laboratory. This isn't bad in itself, fun/comedy pairs well with action, but the contrast from expectations really highlights every flaw in it, like weirdly delivered dialogue and silly voices and a lot of style over substance. It's been hyped up for me as this cool and serious show, one of the best works of animation the west has to offer, but it's just too fucking goofy.

And the short 'kthxbai' did kinda put me off, there was no 'connecting' between the people Jack saved and Ashi when she met them. But after doing atleast 3 episodes worth of building up Jack's suicidal tendencies, resolving it in 4 minutes feels extremely week.

Then, instead of being sincere when people asked if they were friends she would lie to get them to help her. After each encounter her malice wains as she sees how much good Jack has brought. Again, you missed the point, it most likely Jack's own guilt personified mixed with a healthy bit of mysticism.

This is seprate from blue jack who will come up later. The ghosts themselves did not care, they were there to witness, like Aishi was supposed by Omen's own admission. It was the honerable thing to do, so the spirits would have been satisfied, but the more honorable thing to do was realizing his purpose could still be fulfuilled. Jack never failed.
Jack himself was cool with obeying his own guilt here because eh's been wrestling the idea of killing himself for 50 years. The 50 or so kids he thought he was responsible for killing sent him over the edge.

It's symbolism in the simplist form of imagery. Again the Audience were simply spirits there to witness, he would take his place among them had he decided to take his own life.

We would have been better off if after Scaramouche comes back, he just hops off and we don't see him again for the rest of the episode. Additionally, cut the rave dance scene. With the freed up runtime, use it to make the ending scene with the ghost shogun fleshed out more and actually have it payoff the buildup.

I would have preffered a longer/more elaborate arc for the shogun, but there's no reason why a single scene to resolve it as they did couldn't have paid off the build up had it been done right.
