I met Ramon Perez at C2E2 yesterday, and got some real depressing shit.

>Nova had 20 issues planned
>editor had to fight hard to even get them the last two issues because marvel wanted to end it mid-arc
>rich's armor looking different had backstory planned
>perez sounded really disappointed about it all and loved working on the book

Also, something slightly more uplifting, I asked one of the guys at Marvel's panel today if there were plans for Rich. Apparently, everyone at Marvel loves Rich (and Sam too), and he was very much brought back for a reason, and there are plans for him.

Hopefully...

It's a real pity. I don't usually read cosmic marvel, but I read this book. It was quite good and fun to read, with a lovely dynamic between an adult with some heavy baggage and a kid with the usual problems of a teen, and both of them were silly at times.

It felt right and even had nice action in there.
Fuck this earth.
They're cancelling Star-Lord, too,
and even it it wasn't everyone's taste, I enjoyed it a lot too. Fuck this earth, again.
>>
Perez was so nice when I spoke with him

Got a commish from him of Sparky the Synthezoid dog, but was unable to pick it up tonight.

I wish him and Jeff the best.
>>
>>91764294
Star Lord's just ending.
Cause the GOTG are going back to space.
>>
>>91763722
It sucks shit, but whether a book is good or not has rarely impacted on its sales. Perez and Loveness did a great job and I look forward to any and all their future work.

The fact even in their first couple of issues they were able to set up some moments for Rich that felt so deserved and had been such a long time in coming was great. And I don't mean just for the character, but in addressing the aftermath of what happened to him and what Sam inherited.
>>
>>91764538
According to Jordan White in his tumblr, Star-Lord got cancelled for low sales.

Yet that comic sold more than Moon Girl and Unbeatable Wasp and those two comics are still going.
>>
>>91764538
It was cancelled:

>Tomorrow is STAR-LORD #6, the last issue of the GROUNDED arc and, sadly, the final issue for the series. I’m immensely proud of what Kris, Matt and I were able to do in those issues: exploring an estranged Peter, finding his footing without the Guardians, on a planet he’s now out of step with.

>And, of course, for those who haven’t been getting the individual issues, the GROUNDED trade will be out soon after, so please check it out. Trade sales won’t save the series, but it may show the higher-ups that a series should breathe a bit before laid out to pasture.

I thought people who worked for Marvel weren't allowed to say anything about decisions made by the higher-ups?

>>91763722
Why am I not surprised they had to fight with the current regime to let them try to finish the arc? As for their supposed love for Rider, fuck 'em. If they loved Nova so much, Marvel never would have let Bendis pull this kind of bullshit.
>>
>>91764796
It was cancelled 3 issues in, wasn't it? That's extreme even for Marvel. I'm pretty sure Wasp is at issue 5 now though, so I don't see how you can have weighed up the sales.

That said I know of literally no-one who was buying or even reading Star-Lord and the whole pitch of "the Guardians, on Earth!" was doomed and fucking stupid from the start.

It's certainly true Marvel did fuck all to promote the Star-Lord or Nova book.
>>
>>91764796
I'm assuming both MG and Wasp are doing well in some kind of american platform for schools, given that it's the demo they aim to.
>>
>>91763722
>editor had to fight hard to even get them the last two issues because marvel wanted to end it mid-arc
Yet shit like Squirrel Girl, Moon Girl, Hellcat and sooner rather than later America are allowed to limp along.
>>
>>91764796
They're all-ages titles and so have a lower threshold for cancellation. Squirrel Girl and Hellcat were as well.
>>
>>91764294
>I don't usually read cosmic marvel, but I read this book

I'm more partial to how cosmic Marvel was original pitched as a hybrid of Carl Sagan and H.P. Lovecraft. There is beauty in the cosmos, sure, but there's always a blackness, an unknown. It's the same with Aquaman and Namor and I really wish people would realize that instead of saying "HURR DURR, HE TALK TO FISH!!"
>>
>>91763722
>and there are plans for him.

Yeah, they plan to put him in the #1 cycle, cancel his book and repeat
>>
>>91763722
>Nova had 20 issues planned
At this point, you might as well just plan for six issues.

>marvel wanted to end it mid-arc
Now that's plain bullshit on Marvel's part.

>>91764796
>>91765326
>that comic sold more than Moon Girl and Unbeatable Wasp and those two comics are still going.
Also at this point, you may as well just ignore monthly sales for ongoings. It's all but confirmed that Marvel is ignoring those numbers as well.
>>
>>91765354
Namor was originally pitched as a guy who murdered Japanese soldiers.
>>
>>91765083
Well, this isn't a official interview.
>>
>>91765501
Nah, with "Marvel Legacy" they'll be rebooting Nova at #77 or whatever his total solo issue count is.
>>
If you didn't actually buy this book I don't think you can get mad at it.

I'm not saying nobody ITT bought it buy I bet plenty of you didn't.

>I told you fags that a Dick Rider book would bomb. I gave you fags a Dick Rider book. And look what happened? It bombed. -t. Brevoort
>>
>>91765502
Only for certain things of course. Star-Lord and Novas obviously got cancelled due to sales. But they sure as shit are going to keep Carol and Kamala comics in publication despite also selling poorly.
>>
>>91765354
Are you following Aquaman right now? Abnett's totally going for a horror angle in the current arc.
>>
>>91765354
I don't read a lot because they didn't publish a lot here to begin with. It's the sort of thing I like. I mean, I can pirate/loan from the library anything at this point, old and new alike. Or, crazy, even buy it (which I do, when I can, to be honest: I was planning on buy this once they publish it). But it's a hell of a lot of material, to be honest.
>>
>>91765754
It's funny because Breevort took blame on the book failing. He outright said it failed because of him. Of course he was talking about Star-Lord.
>>
>>91764534
Hi Mitch.
>>
>>91765791
Star-Lord will get another ongoing eventually. I wouldn't be surprised if all the Guardians do after the movie makes 2 billions at the box office.

I planned to check on Chip's Spider Man, but that's all so far. I my end up liking something else, idk.

>>

Fuck those guys, they are just bitter cucks who are willing to see Rich fail just because DnA isn't writing him and Sam is in the comic. They're bitter jerks and at this point if Abnett had wrote Rich they wouldn't have been satisfied.

Also Abnett said if Marvel were to ask him to write about Sam he would do it.

https://youtu.be/cEpO1cTmoGk?t=58m31s

Pretty sure they would implode if they knew that.
>>
>>91766974
>Abnett
I loved his Guardians 3000. It was a really nice read, but I'm happy he's DC exclusive, his talent would be wasted if he was still with Marlel.
>>
>>91766974

>>
Kindly reminder the book failed because literally no one likes Sam.

You're welcome.
>>
>>91763722

Goddamit. Now it just makes me more pissed it's ending.
>>
>>91763722
>editor had to fight hard to even get them the last two issues because marvel wanted to end it mid-arc

So it was going to end with issue #5? With Rich going back to the Cancerverse? Jesusfuck Marvel.
>>
>>91763722
>he was very much brought back for a reason, and there are plans for him.
Well yeah, Duggan already said that he's bringing back the Nova Corps for his Guardians of the Galaxy run and that Rich would be a supporting character in the book.
>>
>>91767563
That was another thing. Supposedly Duggan has like... two to three years of Guardians shit planned. They said it's supposed to go back to full cosmic, so here's hoping.
>>
>>91767563
>Rich would be a supporting character in the book.

I know he's going to appear but is he a supporting character?

That said I rather he was in the Ultimates but I guess he has history with the Guardians so he goes there.

I wonder if Rich will keep his Cancerverse powers and if so how Duggan is going to utilize them.
>>
>>91767563
>from headlining an entire brand to being an extra for Baby Groot and nuGuardians
>>
>>91767687
Yeah, he has a 3 year plan and the book is going to be double shipping for at least the first year (assuming it can maintain sales) so that it can hit the ground running. Hopefully Duggan can pull it off, because there's a whole lotta damage control that needs done after Bendis' big fat waste of space.
>>
>>91766369
I meant Nova isn't cosmic anymore
>>
>>91765749
Was gonna buy the trade but got college broke.
>>
>>91763722

Can't we pull an Omega Men? But then again this isn't DC
>>

The big problem with the book was that it was too adult oriented

The themes were dealing with the loss of a parent when you're middle aged, being a decent role model to a teenager, dealing with the consequences of the acts of children, etc

A teen wasn't going to look at this book and be engaged, and unfortunately young adults fetishise saving a handful of dollars by not supporting media they're into

We're stuck with comics that will never last further than one volume for actual adult themes like this

Well Rich and Kyle were both randomly selected to be Nova/GL after their respective corps is annihilated. They fight the corrupted former champion of their respective corps who went mad after their home got destroyed (Sal/Parallax). At some point Kyle becomes the bestest of the best (Ion/White Lantern) and Rich becomes Nova Prime.

Personality wise I guess Rich is more like Hal although Hal tends to be super cocky while Rich was really cocky as a teen but he mellows down significantly after the Annihilation wave (also Rich

Sam is more Silver Age Hal than anything at least under Duggan.

>>
>>91770665
Did you even read the book this thread is about? even in the threads people were saying how he was more like Spider-Man than Miles ever was.
Sam has that loser by day, hero by night gimmick down pretty well, really bad luck and, going by what i read from Samfags, people tend to not like him.
>>
>>91770785
Sam is not a super genius, he didn't get bitches, and as much as a loser that Peter was past High school his dorkyness wasn't seen as a flaw like it was with Sam (or Rich for that matter).

The whole bad luck and loser thing is a staple from teen heroes so it's not unique to them, also by that logic a lot of teen heroes are more like Peter than Miles, Miles doesn't really have much going on for him personality wise or how he interacts with other characters.
>>
>>91771091
> and as much as a loser that Peter was past High school his dorkyness wasn't seen as a flaw
Now you're just being silly. And he hooked up with that ring nosed bitch in the series and his supporting cast is trash, he doesn't a MJ, or Gwen, or Betty Brant to hook up.

>also by that logic a lot of teen heroes are more like Peter than Miles
I never claimed it was a specific Sam matter though just telling you what went on the threads, and of all the current Marvel teens Sam's more akin to Peter than anyone else.

They dont commit to books. They only push their agenda.

Not only did they bring back a character that people stopped reading their books over before winning them back but they also didnt support it at all.

When Omega Mens sales were terrible they were going to cancel it but when the few people who were actually reading it spoke out DC actually listened and went to King asking how many issues to finish his story and the rest is history.

Marvels track record with things like this send me into a blind fury.

I looked it up and Death was definitely killed.

I can't see the Cancervere's version of Thanos mentioned anywhere, just his destroyed ship.

Remember, Thanos of 616 was specifically made into the avatar of death when he was resurrected through the cocoon. We don't know what happened to the alternate Thanos.

>good books don't sell and get cancelled too soon
>incompetent asshole creators ruin the books with strong sales

true for years and it still sucks

He appears in Thanos Imperative but he looks like pic related.

Scratch that, I might ne remembering things wrong.

But I swear I saw him like that.
>>
>>91776238
He ended up like that in Infinity

What I don't get is why Rich didn't appear in the final issue of GotG.
Fucking Annihilus and Thanos were invading earth. He did a lot to make sure that wouldn't happen.
A fucking rebuilt Nova Corps show up to take Thanos into custody, and I guess he doesn't give a shit?
Bendis loves cheesy drama, and that would have been right up his ally
I really, really don't think the Nova Corps should ever be rebuilt. Rich works a lot better on his own.
>>
>>91768290
This is way more gay than I remember.
>>
>>91776799
He had Peter say he loved Rich so he would obviously have had him and Gamora jump Rich and cry all over hin.

I guess knowing Bendis he just didn't care or he planned the comic and finished before Rich came back.

Either way it's for the best.

>>91776702
Maybe but Thanos being like thst in the Cancerverse makes sense since he was like that during the Death of Captain Marvel.
>>
>>91763722
Did he had some plans for a New Warriors reunion? Rich drinking with his old friends?
>>
>>91776238
>>91776702
He definitely didn't show up, just Thano's ship.

is this a joke

Christ, Marvel.

Moon Girl has a deal with Scholastic which is keeping it running. The tpb is being made available to schools and at book fairs.

I'm half expecting them to announce one for Wasp soon.
>>
>>91765810
I love abnetts aquaman and where he's going with it. Honestly when was the last time aquaman wasn't good he is consistently the most underrated hero dc has in terms of quality
>>
>>91778325
Wasp wasn't picked up
Loeb's Nova was at Scholastic Book Fairs as of last year, my brother, in 4th grade, bought a copy

Don't ask editors or even writers about upcoming stuff if they haven't been announced. Chances are the writer is in talks of doing something but "in talks" doesn't mean shit's gonna get made" and editors are always trying to be positive
>oh course there';s plans for more stuff with this character, dear fan
>2 years later still nothing
Basically, don't set yourself up for disappointment.

And yet theyre keeping moongirl and spidergwen. Bullshit.

Characters that Bendis doesn't like or care about always get shafted hard, even if it would make sense for them to be the focal point for an event at best they'll get sneered at, at worst they won't even be acknowledged.
>Rich
>Scarlet Witch
>Captain Britain
>Scott Lang
>D-Man
>Rachel Grey
The list goes on...

>>91763722
This shit right here is why Marvel sales are in the shitter. The endless tide of new #1's means editors are encouraged to cancel books at the drop of a hat, so they never find an audience. And that leads to fans not wanting to try ANY new books since Marvel is now infamous for cancelling titles like mad.

Cullen Bunn.

I do agree that Aquaman has been the most consistently well-written capecomic character since 2011.

I'm somewhere between anger and depression. A mere husk of a man walking in this soon-to-be Nova-less world.
>>
>>91767102
Bet he was tired of getting cancelled half-way into his stories. Meanwhile Aquaman is such a nice read. It feels like it's going places, not just in the individual arcs, but overall.
Having read a lot of Marvel's complete shit lately, I almost forgot how that felt. A book not killing time before the next event/its own cancellation is pretty much novel to me at this point.
This cancellation is quite opportune to me as it makes it easy for me to drop Marvel completely again.

It's almost like all Marvel's current problems were entirely created by themselves.

Illuminated Comics, a parody hosted on tumblr and occasionally storytimed here. The author is currently remaking Civil War 2

He dated her in 616.

Bendis and all the Kittyfu writers are weird when it comes to Kitty.
