what seems to have happened (based on court filings over the X-Men franchise) is that the contracts were much less the blanket rights coverage FOX had thought of them of and much more a general right to make a movie featuring (title property) for x years, with details of characters to be confirmed at time of scripting - which makes sense, if you think about it, because it gives you the right to make movies of stories and characters that haven't been made yet

but that meant that FOX found *after* making two X-Men movies that they didn't actually own half the characters they'd used, because they just had a contract that said "x-men movie" not a contract that actually named anybody beyond the original 60s team

so there's no reason to assume they own anything from any franchise other than the title characters and any named characters and stories listed in the contract itself
