Someone at Hanna Barbera needs to take the wheel.

They've got this whole catalog of characters who are still recognizable, even iconic. Only problem is that Warner Bros has no idea what to do with any of them!

>Gritty comic reimagining
>Whore themselves to WWE
>Shoehorn them into WB owned movies

What do you do with a property like Tom and Jerry? Or the Yogi Bear? Or the Flintstones? Give me your suggestions.

Don't change a damn thing about them and just give people more of what they like about these properties?

Make more theatrical tom and jerry shorts?

Update these shows to function with new technology and just make more of them?

I guess the honeymooners thing with flintstones is a little outdated, but I think people would be receptive if its about adult stuff like it was, originally. Maybe make it a double feature with jetsons.

Yogi bear's setup seems pretty timeless desu. Scooby doo hasnt changed the status quo in decades and its still trucking.

Just give top cat to the mexicans, give it to studio anima or something, they genuinely appreciate it more.

They already tried to reboot johnny quest but with venture bros around it seems pretty redundant. They could make a spiritual sequel with updated technology and a grown up johnny, I guess.

Huckleberry hound always kinda sucked, he's better as a sort of host for all these other hanna barbera characters. Maybe they should bring back banana splits and embrace the outdated psychedellic charm?

Quickdraw mcgraw seems limited by the setting, maybe put him in genre stuff. Like one episode he's a noir detective, the next an action hero, etc.

Snagglepuss just seems odd and I've got nothing.

They should reboot atom ant in the style of that cn groovy, at least as a miniseries.

they already rebooted space ghost into a weird comedy show and the new comics. Maybe they could take some of their other action stuff and rework it into an action block. New herculoids and thundarr would be cool.

the fact that wacky races and dick dastardly as a character have been ignored is a crime.

Honestly, the thing with these legacy characters is that if they become iconic and don't have a lot of depth to them, it doesn't make a lot of sense to change them too drastically. You just need new teams to add on to them and make them better and appeal to some modern sensibilities here and there.

To me the trouble with some of these characters is that doing the same old thing would be tired and cliche but doing anything new makes it too different.

Do people really want new animated shorts with Tom and Jerry running around a '50s house chasing each other? They've tried to do modern Looney Tunes shorts on and off for years now and it always comes off as "Yeah, so?" It's just new animators doing old gags.

Huck never had a hook. His cartoons were always generic cartoon shenanigans. I think he should go back to being the MC of Hanna Barbera. Introducing cartoons and talking to the audience. He's likable in an 'Aw shucks' way.

There's definitely possibilities for A Flintstones or Jetsons show. Animated sitcom families are still a thing and at least they have unique settings to help them stand out.

>the fact that wacky races and dick dastardly as a character have been ignored is a crime.

They're actually making a new show.

Your post highlights the problem with OP's thoughts. While the stable is massive it's because most of the cast is the same damn thing over and over

>Silly talking animal in a tie
>Mystery solving youths and their wacky talking _______
>Sitcom family but with [gimmick]

So you're left scratching your head and wondering things like "what's the point in updating the Teen Angels when Scooby Doo is the exact same thing with better brand recognition"

Also, Cartoon Network is doing something with the Wacky Races

Quick Draw McGraw.
>>
>>91744984
I really like Quickdraw. He's charming. The whole western setting, his little mexican sidekick and his amazing alter ego El Kabong, who is just quickdraw in a black mask hitting people on the head with a guitar.

OP, HB's been defunct since 2001.
>>
I remember reading about a cartoon proposal that would feature looney tunes and HB characters hanging out together. It was called mixed nuts or something. It never became a thing but I wish it did, maybe we could get something like that in comic form. Since DC has been making a lot of Hannah Barberah based comics.

Actually Viacom was attempting to pass around a reboot movie of Johnny Quest a while ago which was why the Venture Bros had to change the names of the Johnny Quest characters they used (Jonny was renamed "Action Johnny", Race Bannon was referred to as "Red" and Dr Zin was called "Dr. Z")

>Actually Viacom was attempting to pass around a reboot movie of Johnny Quest a while ago
Yeah and how's that goin'?
>>
>>91746725
So the show that was started out as a simple Johnny Quest parody eventually became unique enough that they thought it would be funny to put the real Johnny Quest in the show, only to be forced by legalities to change their names, making them yet another group of Johnny Quest parody characters.

How many layers of Johnny Quest can one show have?

Judging at the speed of VB seasons releases?

Two.
>>
>>91744043
They all need to be relaunched using classic animation production values.

The grimdark comics reboots were fun and fine in that medium but, as cartoons, the only formula that works is the original formula.

I'm right and this isn't open to debate.

Reposting my idea for a Captain Caveman reboot

>rip off Mystery Inc/Be Cool - they're college freshmen who still haven't found their place in the world, but solving mysteries is one thing they're all really good at in their own way
>give the girls a personality each, and give them character development (explain why Brenda is such a wet blanket, give Dee Dee more of a personality than "the black one" etc)
>go easy on the pop culture references, but make the ones we DO make funny e.g. rip off Encino Man when Cavey is unfrozen, maybe a Twilight parody when Cavey's romancing Taffy
>replace "Bad time for power cut!" for "Maybe me try alternative fuel sources..."
>give the girls a regular antagonist e.g. preppy sorority bitches, incuding one who doesn't WANT to be mean, but easily caves into peer pressure

Or, y'know, just make a WWE crossover movie

WB already has their own giant catalog which they consider to be the more iconic to their brand.

And they largely consider HB stuff to be a cheaper knockoff, Wa-Mart type of brand
>>
>>91744158
All the actors those guys are based on are long dead and largely irrelevant to modern kid audiences.

Even parents are not going to really care about Andy Griffith dog, Phil Silvers cat, John Wayne horse, and Vincent Price panther.

Flintstones has been around so long and in so many forms that people know Fred more than they do Jackie Gleason.

Wacky animal still works to a degree. WB keeps on putting Looney Tunes characters in things to this day, and the Disney shorts of the last few years have been doing well. The problem with Hanna Barbera stuff is they they are not really "beloved classic" enough as the other two and rarely get any love from their own parent company. The genre itself is not dead, since we still have stuff like Gumball and We Bear Bears on today.

Scooby Doo never really fell out of style. It was the only mystery solving teen show that stuck around after the early 80's. So there still seems to be a market for it. If they were to try it again I actually wish they would just go back and invent newer shows with a different hook than reinventing all the shows that they had in the 70's.

The animated sitcom has shown to work with the success of the Fox shows, however HB always wanted to toy with the setting and that seems to kill them off pretty fast. They might be able to do some kind of modern update of Wait Till Your Father Gets Home, or follow in the same footsteps as Simpson's/Family Guy. Fox's experimenting with new animated series for their Sunday lineup over the years shows that not very often does a weird or different setting work out. Futurama worked but then there are all those other shows that never made it past 2-3 episodes before cancellation.

Pretty much every talking-animal-in-human-world cartoon, there's no shortage of those
>Scooby Doo
Still going strong with every reboot
>Johnny Quest
Literally who? Also Venture Bros, Archer, other action cartoons

Modern television doesn't need these characters.

I would like to see Wait Till Your Father gets Home again but kept in the 70's with lots and lots of 70's stuff throughout.

The daughter's boyfriend works in a porn shop in Time's Square, the son is a KISS fan and wears the makeup that the rest of the family does not approve of, the parents are more like Archie Bunker.

I actually imagine Flintstones would work just fine if they managed to adapt modern life to a stone age gimmick like they did life back in the 60s. I think it would be lovely to have a show showing our time through a comical lense without going for overly cynical humour.
>>
>>91750143
Any one of the HB properties would actually work really well straight these days, since shit like archer is a send up.

What would be really interesting to see is the characters reimagined to be a counterpart to their modern day equivalents.

So say Flintstones was the honeymooners, we need a modern flintstones adaption that is instead a piss take of something like modern family or parks and rec. Jetsons could be a big bang snipe. Top Cat would be whatever the modern equivalent of the Phil Silvers show is. (although I'd pay money to see a TC adaption that is a riff on the Chapelle Show.)

The original shows were all largely knockoffs of other stuff, so you either take the original bits of them and do those straight, or have them re-take their original places.

I would love to see a Jetsons adaption just rip the idea of modern sci fi to bits. Imagine a really snappy more satirical futurama making fun of shit? I'd give it a shot. Especially if it's an adult swim style show where he bangs the robot.
