But if you really understood what's up you'd realize Joker can't be killed, because he's too popular a character. The universe will conspire to keep him alive, and even if you do manage to shoot him, he'll come back to life somehow anyway, and probably have it out for you specifically since you shot him.

The safest option is to accept that he's going to survive, and probably escape, and figure out a way to not get yourself killed during that.
