I felt that was going to be the way they went with Jack and Ashi's character relations.
Personally I wouldn't have minded if Jack had stayed a mentor to Ashi. It would have been interesting to see that dynamic play out rather than the obvious scenario of they are a man and a woman out adventuring together so they fall in love.
