dear germanfags of /co/

will Super RTL ever get the appreciation it deserves?

it is one the most influential channel in all of german media. while RTL II was filled with anime garbage, Super RTL brought shows like spongebob, the fairly oddparents, the powerpuff girls, and many other 2000s classics to germany for the first time, while at the same time showing classic 70s and 80s programming such as the pink panther, wickie, lucky luke, tintin, charlie brown, looney tunes, and tom and jerry, stuff that hadn't ran on german television for over 8 years before Super RTL was created.

yet it is often overlooked because in recent years its gone to utter shit
>>
>>91694544

Aside from Nickelodeon Super RTL was my go- to channel whenever wanting to watch cartoons.
But I never got behind the whole Toggo stuff they are still trying to push.
>>
>>91694544
Super RTL was always the core RTL idea.
Broadcasting series. For kids, family and classicer.
Before RTL splitted there were regular kids programm and many series. But than Kika came along, so RTL positioned RTL 2 as young/hip and Super RTL as a family channel.

And i think they could sell ads block better and more ad space.

I saw there was a channel tan thread, do they have a Supper RTL tan? Or other german channel tans?
>>
>>91695542
Toggo is just A child friendly imprint for parents.
And to get a theme going for internet. You dont like it or get it, but you know it and got at least a clue whats it about.
>>
>>91695542
weird, nick and super rtl were also my go-to channels for cartoons

>>91695614
I don't think there is a superRTL tan
>>
>>91694544
>is one the most influential channel in all of german media
>RTL II was filled with anime garbage
Don't be stupid. Even if you don't like anime, you can't deny that both were influential.
While Super RTL brought many western cartoons to germany, RTL2 brought many anime shows. The latter was the Toonami of Germany in it's prime (Anime @ RTL2 and whatever it was called in the early 2000s). What made it especially great was the quality of german dubs they were broadcasting. I couldn't believe how much care went into them, once I started watching anime with subs years later.

>>91695542
>>91695650
I still don't get it. A mention of Super RTL alone was enough for me to know what the channel is all about. Then again, I watched it before Toggo became a thing.
>>
>>91695650

It still hasn`t really been successful, hence they are still trying to push it, naming the website after it etc.
I think that's because the name simplyy sounds like ass.

>>91695746

I was there when the channel was introduced, when they ran those ads of a TV driving to a Super RTL gas station and fueling itself up with it.
>dat old jingle
"Ich hab Lust auf Fernsehen, Lust auf Super RRTLLLL"
>>
>>91695746
>Toggo
It just means = Super RTL kids time, family friendly
Its like a label.
Not really more to it.
The rest is just trying to get a forum/community like binding.

>>91695614
>no tan
Maybe we should get some german channel tans than. Lol

people seem to be uploading footage of this channel on youtube, so that's nice I guess

visiting super RTL's website through archive.org has made me remember a lot of movies I didn't remember watching as a kid

the feels man, the feels
>>
How's that channel doing these days? I've stopped watching TV about a decade ago. I've been watching a lot of Super RTL as a kid. RTL II two when it was still showing anime in the afternon
RTL II now is... I don't even know how to describe it but it's depressing. Does the same go for Super?
>>
>>91695868
what happened to super rtl is beyond depressing, dude
>>
>>91695868
>tfw one day the RTL2 afternoon segment was simply gone

I haven't watched it for about a decade now. W-what happened?
>>

http://www.superrtl.de/tv-programm/index-101.htm

look at the cartoons, besides looney tunes, everything else is obscure crap
>>
>>91694544
Pro Sieben was the best channel in the 90s. They had BTAS,Real Ghostbusters and Simpsons.
Rtl 2 had anime. RTL and Sat1 the best saturday morning cartoons.

I can't remember that Super RTL had any good shows.
>>
>>91696025
The obscure crap they air is pretty decent, it is just lesser known. And they treat the stuff they air really well. They are doing really well right now, even without the big names.

>everything else is obscure crap
Why are you on /co/? You dont really have a clue, do you?
They aim for the 6-10 year olds and have a family friendly programm.
If you are a parent, you know that you can let them watch these series without regret that something you dont want them to watch will air.
Its less obscure in stories nor is it too violent.
Thats what Toggo is all about a sigil for parents they can let their kids watch this.

Ritter hoch 3 is at the moment a hit with kids.
Dragons is well known and sparked a new dragon intererssest in kids.
Alvin is kinda retro, but family friendly, but parents know that series.
Bugs Bunny a classiker and parents know that too and let their kids watch that.
The Cats in Boots is thanks to Shrek and fables known too, not a hit but kids like to watch.
Mr. Bean is all age and still loved in germany. Parents will approve that and kids will watch it for entertainment
Dinotux is the sleeper hit with kids from 5-8, they make good money with toys and books.
Ok, 5 Freunde is not a hit, but with the beloved audiobooks "???" its ok in the programm.
Camp Sumpfgrund is more obscure filler like Oddbots.
But Ninjago or lego series are beloved and a hit in germany in kids.

Its only dpressing for edgy teens, thats all, but thats not what Toggo stands for.
>>
>>91696625
I think it's depressing for him because this is so different from the super rtl we're used to from the mid-90s to late-10s
>>
>>91696678
I agree, shows like this are really overdone and cliche, I'd rather let my child watch something good instead of something that's been overdone, despite it being entertaining.

Super RTL needs to start airing that old child-friendly-but-also-for-adults quality content we know and love, because after all, Super RTL is ""für die ganze familie".

If I'm correct, they own the rights to Peanuts, Thomas the Tank Engine, Madeline, Angela Anaconda, and several more nice family friendly shows.

The stuff they air right now (with a few exceptions) are pretty outlandish for the channel.
>>
>>91695746
I remember watching Nadia: Legend of Blue Water, a fucking Gainax anime, on RTL II.
Also those obscure as fuck animes based on classic literature like Little Women, Robin Hood, the Musketeer one where Aramis was a hot chick ect.
Then there was that one about that girl and her whale which I can't remember the name of.
Oh and the Oz one. I didn't even realize those were anime shows until much much later.
>>
>>91696037
Weird that they didn't have Extreme Ghostbusters. That was on Sat 1 with Men in Black and the Godzilla cartoon.

Heh anyone of you remember when Vox was airing animes in it's friday night programme?
That's where I saw stuff like Plastic Little and fucking Kite for the first time.
>>
>mfw they aired Evangelion 1.0 and 2.0
>>
>>91696869
They also aired Advent Children once I think.
>>
>>91696678
>>91696767
Ok, i got carried away a little bit. But it was just that the series are not this obscure.
And you can criticise that their animation is aimed towards young kids, for parents that want to entertain their kids while doing their stuff and its kinda optimized the ads for targetgroup that buys most of the toys.
But its made with good shows and in a way its rather win-win for both.
>>
>>91696800
You mean Tico and the Seven Seas. It's also part of the World's Masterpiece Theater project.
That project deserves it's own thread on /a/ by the way.

Damn, I remember those. Back then, I didn't know they were anime. I thought they were obscure cartoons instead.

>Then there was that one about that girl and her whale which I can't remember the name of.
I remember that one too, but I completely forgot what it's title was. It was fun.

>>91696800
That was the beginning of anime, the programm directors had no idea what it was all about. It seemed they bought series with looking on an excel list with ratings and price.
They bought well known series and than more niche shows. Guess the stars were expensive and than they decided to buy cheap series as time filler.
>>
>>91694544
Not German, but I used to go on holiday in Mainz with my parents years back. Super RTL/Toggo was my introduction to Spongebob, Fillmore!, The Weekenders, Jimmy Neutron, etc.
>>
>>91697073
Hilarious considering how great that niche stuff was. Sailor Moon was probably the least niche show they had at that time and that still shits all over a lot of modern shows.
>>

And yes, that was a good start, i watched escaflown, street fighter alpha.

I am from Poland and from 1998 Super RTL was next to RTL II, English Cartoon Network my favorite tv station. I learned a lot just y watching this cartoons and thanks to them I watched many cartoons that haven't been seen in Poland before. I remember saying my friends what will be in next Pokemon episodes for example.

I also remember RL had great silly Porn programs
>>
>>91696800
Wasn't there also that show about those two sisters searching for their parents and had to dogde a criminal syndicate at the same time that was hunting their family?
Oh and SuperRTL had Rosalie Erdbeer or how it was called in German again. That was also anime.
>>
>>91697081
Thats cool. I bet you couldnt wait till holidays?
That was before nick and disney made their own channels and stopped cooperation with rtl.
>>
>>91697147
I think only a single episode. And that must have been when it was still part of Vox's cultural programm where they showed a bunch of first episodes of various animes subbed. I know back then I had my first exposure of drawn tits. Never looked back.
>>
>>91697106
Or things like Mila Superstar. I dont think its this famous in anime, but ask any german being a kid or teen in that time knows this series and will use it as a joke reference if someone says mila, fujiama or related stuff.
Or Kikckers, have the feeling only japan and germany know this series.
>>
>>91697213
I think they had a cooperation with AOGC at that time, thats why they had a good selection.
But cant remember they only showed one episodes. I know they showed All episodes of Escaflown and Streetfighter alpha.
Maybe if it was a stand alone episode they did it?
Fist of the Northstar was more like a movie series.
>>
>>91697120
Me too, anon.

>>91697162
I had the same experience as you did. I'm from Slovenia and I grew up watching these channels. Our channels also had cartoon segments, but they simply couldn't compete with shows that Super RTL, RTL2 and Cartoon Network were broadcasting. They only had a few popular shows and that was it. Over the years they started broadcasting more shows though. The dubbing was sub par and it still remains today. But the company who dubbed redeemed itself in a way. In the early 2000s, they started subbing some shows. The Magic School Bus was one of them for example. Years later, I noticed that they were still doing it, but only shows that were aimed at early teens and teens got subbed.

>I learned a lot just y watching this cartoons and thanks to them I watched many cartoons that haven't been seen in Poland before.
The same thing happened here. I know lots of people who learned german and english from watching these channels. It happened to me too. What's interesting to me is that many of us knew how to speak german before we knew how to write or read anything in german.

Britfag here, had a weird obsession with all the foreign TV I could get when dumb reruns were playing on all the kids channels so I'd watch this shit, mainly to be amused at german openings for shows I knew and to watch weird shit like Hallo Kurt. Only German TV (Pro Seiben iirc) got the Mega Man show (with the boss ass techno opening) so I digged that also.

SNES games were given way the fuck more advertising, I remember commercials for Terranigma even. And there'd be dumb shows I'd watch to be tripped out by like the Hugo phone in game show.

These days it's all about KiKa and all night Bernd loops. Now I know a little more German I find it pretty hilarious.
>>
>>91697438
RTL2 and Pro Sieben went more teen and scripted reality.
The cartooons are now on Kika, Super RTL, Disney Channel and Nickelodeon.
>>
>>91696800
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is probably the best adaptation of Oz to date. It even features the Ozma storyline.
>>
>>91697589
And on Pro7 Maxx and Comedy Central. CC and Super RTL are the only channels which focus mainly on Cartoons. The others also focus on (children) sitcoms, which sell pretty well here thanks to the influence of KiKa.
>>
>Tom & Jerry
Guess what: like every country in Europe, you (presumably) had UK Cartoon Network. Which aires most of the same stuff (let's not even get into your local Nickelodeon).

And let me tell you: I used to hate new years day as a child because CN would show NOTHING but Tom & Jerry ALL. FUCKING. DAY. I was sick and tired of Tom & Jerry by the time I was nine years old. The day I came home from school on Sepptember 21 1999 and DESPERATELY searched for anything good on TV because CN was showing fucking Tom & Jerry again was the day I first discovered RTL II.

I remember just kind of trying it after the episode explained it a bit and ever since it's been downhill.

Thinking back Drawn Together taught me most of the things I later heard about in Sex ED in school, I wonder if the writers know that their jokes that basically were "hey look how wacky it is that we have a bit that's just actuall sexual education" actually taught me (and probably other young kids too) valuable information.

I remember those too, there were straight up soft core pornos that were really fucking slow (something like 12 minute kissing scenes before the action even begun) but also comedy porn movies that were more explicit.

I only remember the one where all the characters were secret agents that were fighting/fucking for a drug that made people uncontrollably horny and in the end the main heroine threw it in the water supply and as the credits rolled there was a news reel reporting on people having orgies in the streets which ended with the newscaster being dragged under the table by female colleagues.

I watched it again when I was older (though it was still years ago) after randomly coming across it on TV and they movie actually was pretty fun in a so-bad-it's-good way, the terribly acted low budget fight scenes really had a charm to them.
I wish I could remember the movies name though.

Super RTL helped make the abomination that was What's with Andy? season 3. And for that it deserves much hate.

No need to do it secretly.
We had a TV in our room and our parents did not really care as long as this did not affect our school results. Then we could sty up pretty much as long as we wanted.

Wasnt most softporn movies on Vox and Sat1 cut pornos?

In fact gemany has the best dubb scene.
I know a dubber that voiced the little girl in ResidentEvil7 and from what she knows and other working there said, they are the best after america.

Not cut, often specifically made this way.
Nearly all erotic films ARE pornos filmed through a second camera. It would not be profitable to produce just a softcore movie and then a hardcore version, they do both at the same shooting, one set of cameras stays away and keeps everything soft, the other one has a hardcore point of view and zooms in on the genetalia. Also the soft footage is cut much earlier already in production.
