It's possible, but it's far more likely because they really can't use Aku right now. While Jack's certainly a skilled fighter, without the sword, Aku could wear him down in a fight and tear him apart. Until he's near the sword/has the sword, Aku can't really work as an opponent.

So, Daughters of Aku. They give Jack an enemy, and Ashi (along with the Scotsman's spirit) seem to be set up to help break Jack out of his despair. With Ashi, Jack is being a hero once more.
