The series is 99% shitty writing and edginess for the sake of edginess, but a handful of issues and arcs are worth looking at.

Vol 1 is a pretty good introduction
"Family Values" is pretty followup
Some of the Badlands arcs are pretty good, in particular
>#25–28 "The Fatal Englishman"
>#37–39 "American Quitters"
"Wish You Were Here" is the best of the longer story arcs

Avoid 'Psychopath' and any of the spinoff issues - they're complete shit. 100+ is also super hit and miss.

Well, you see, there are two kind of Crossed stories: The "It's like a regular Zombie story but with more edge" kind and the "Crazy Over the Top Bullshit" kind. Both kinds can be fun at times, but most of them are not, especially the second kind that are almost always cringe.

Family Values for exemple is like the an average Zombie story you could almost find in a spin off of the walking dead, but instead of going, "The little kid gets taken by bandits then in the insuing fight where his parents and their group try to save him, he gets biten and his mommy got to put him down, ultimetly losing failing to save the kid and even losing more people in the process" they go "The kid gets buttfucked and raped then he turns then his mommy got to put him down when he tries to cut of her head" or whatever.

Since this thread is still up, I wanted to ask a question. If you had a choice of where to be placed in, a random TWD-type zombie apocalypse or crossed apocalypse, what would you choose(no third choices or not choosing)?

Crossed:
>cannot be reliably engaged in melee
>somewhat smart, can communicate, use traps, firearms and melee weapons themselves
>can have standout individuals as their leaders, making them much more dangerous than usual groups
>fast
>is as susceptible to cold/hunger/being damaged as a normal human being, their only advantage is slightly better resistance to pain
>almost no deviation, only some smart individuals
>loud
>no sense of tactics if not guided by leaders
>somewhat prone to infighting, horde sizes are mostly below hundred
>over time numbers will dwindle since some freeze/starve/etc
>if you get infected and not maimed too hard, you'll do some crazy shit you'll probably like and continue to exist and understand what you do

Zombies(rules of infection as in TWD):
>slow
>can't communicate
>can be reliably engaged in melee, infection spread is through bites
>much higher damage resistance, not susceptible to cold and hunger
>absolutely no deviation, only standard slow and resistant zombies
>some can be quiet and seemingly appear from nowhere(dead bodies suddenly turn out to be undead)
>no sense of tactics period
>larger horde sizes, no infighting
>undead stay undead, numbers dont get lower
>if you get turned you're effectively dead and have no consciousness

I can't really see zombies in Walking Dead being as much of an issue a few decades down the line, whereas Crossed continually multiply and are even beginning to evolve.

Although why the Crossed don't just kill each other off or how billions of people were spontaneously bitten by slow moving corpses before the series begins is beyond me.
