Fanboys has/had been around since like 2006. It got popular simply because it got noticed, but it was pretty brae bones and kinda shitty. The guy who made the comic found a forum where they tore the comic apart and instead of ignoring it since he already had an audience, he went "Fuck, they're right" so he got to work on actually putting effort into the art, characters and jokes, even trying story arcs every now and again.

He stopped doing the comic when his brother got murdered. I think he had one brother die which obviously hit him hard, and then another brother got killed a few years later and he just peaced out of making it. Hasn't updated it in well over two years now, but it had been dying a death before then, going like 5 months without any content.

If this really took place in the 1950's these guys would be hanged, sent to an institution, or permanently in the closet, willingly or the family would chain and lock the closet door themselves.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess they're activists in the 1950's for gender rights or something…even then I don't think the label 'demiboy' stuff existed then.

If it were 1960's however it would make more sense (only in terms of the latter…I really do not think 'demi' gender 'they' stuff, as previously mentioned was ever a thing back then). There is a very faint distinction between the two decades in terms of clothing styles and historical events. (I'm researching this stuff for my own comic, though mine has the benefit of being an alternate history based on universal conquest and an entirely different society…The finished product will still probably be posted in one of these 'the worse webcomics/comics of all time' threads regardless lol.)
