Thoughts? Do think CN will green light it? Is CN finally catering to more mature audiences?
>>

For those who haven't seen it
https://youtu.be/idT98H8TK-U
>>
>>91475220
its too slow-moving for kids to like it.
>>
>>91475220
>>91475228
It's gonna get overshadowed by TTG.
>>
Even for a mature audience it was pretty boring and the themes weren't that mature.
>>
>>91475220
I thought it was great as a short, but I don't know that I'd like it as a show. In fact, is it even supposed to be a show? I see people here acting like it's a pilot, but I can't remember seeing an official source about that.

Anyone have any idea what it would be like as a show? Has Elizabeth Ito talked about that? Would it keep the documentary style?
>>
It made me... uncomfortable.

It was a good short, and the theme was really interesting and solid enough, it just felt way too REAL.

Yeah this desu. And it's not just kids, I watched the mini and it just sounds a bit dull from the first impression. As I watched more it opened up but I just don't really get it. Is it just a mockumentary type show or was this to give a feel of the general activities in the show? I don't know who its catering to, I wouldn't really watch this, I don't imagine many kids would.
The taking pictures of water assignment made me chuckle though

Also the visual style of real life/Animation has become so distinctive to Gumball to me now I can't think of anything else when I see it. Was it Gumball that kicked the trend? I know it's the first show I saw that used it.
>>
>>91475220
Boring shit, green light chance 1%, and no, CN is aiming itself at little kids and retards.
>>
>>91475367
Agreed. There is also 0 humor.

So the idea is that a monster family is getting their on TLC show right?

I feel like this could be interesting if they added more real world affects to it like the MC struggling to make friends and getting bullied because he's different
But I don't this is where it's headed and if it does get picked up then the plots gonna change heavily like with Gumball
>>
>>91475491
Is he? He seems like a normal high-schooler to me. Unless you think rap is only for stoners and monster movies are only for hipsters.
>>
>>91475548
>I feel like this could be interesting if they added more real world affects to it like the MC struggling to make friends and getting bullied because he's different

The short actually goes the opposite of that, and i was actually glad it did.

It has a very chill attitude overall, and it didn't resort to school cliches that much, he is just a normal guy with a normal life except he is a monster fish
>>
There is 0 chance of this lasting as a series. The gimmick gets old.
>>
>not about lesbians
>not about trannies

>character appropriate black culture

reminder that this pilot was made in the same batch as Ridin' with Burgess, Jammers, and 12 Forever
>>
>>91475656
The helmet was for the fight, but I can see where you're coming from
>>
>>91475220
It's ok I guess, not bad by any means but not great anywhere. Also is that "bully" Wallow? It's weird to see him in a non black role
>>
>>91475656
>character appropriate Asian culture
the short was created by Elizabeth ITO (with her family voicing the monsters)
>>
>>91475656
No one gives a shit.
>>
>>91475548
>>91475601
If it gets a series that's probably going to happen. But it approaches the allegory totally differently which is refreshing in a sense.
>>91475656
But it's obviously about being a minority using Monsters as an allegory. for Asians.
>>
>>91475220
Relaxing as fuck. I can see myself watching this before a good night sleep. I doubt child-me would like it though,
>>
>>91475220
This is the kind of thing that gets made for a film festival and is never mentioned again by the creator, as they move on with their career.
There's no way it would make a good series.
>>
>>91475760
fun fact: this short (though the same applies to the Over the Garden Wall and We Bare Bears pilots) was from an earlier batch of pilots but was only shown at film festivals back then
>>
Personally I really liked it. It felt quite realistic and I thought the slow pace was pretty nice, all the characters were cool. There were lots of genuine little quirks that added to it and made me have a good time with it.

But I don't think it has a chance. It's slow, boring, not too interesting, not laugh out loud funny. I liked it but it's probably dead in the water. I hope Ito can try some new stuff though, this is a million times more interesting than basically everything else that's coming out of new CN. The art style alone is a breath of fresh air.
>>
Was it MEANT to be a pilot? It seems like it already accomplished what it set out to do.
>>
I'd watch this, it's a pretty laid back show. I feel like they could put this on just before adultswim comes on
>>
Too mature 4 kids.

Too immature 4 adults.

Too boring 4 anyone with a pulse.

Some retards on /co/ will declare it "comfy-kino" or some shit.
>>
>>91475815
same
I can imagine it being expanded into a miniseries, but it feels like the studio was making a short for the sake of making a short
>>
>>91475491
There was certainly humor in the delivery of certain lines. But yeah the writing had no humor in it. I think that says a lot about the actor. I'd like to see more.

If you think Gumball was the first show with that "style", you are a fucking kid.
>>
>>91475220
The main characters voice bugged me. I get that they're going for a more naturalistic approach, like how a real 14 year old who isn't used to public speaking might sound but he just sounds half asleep to me. I think I'm too used to cartoon VA's who really perform.
>>
>>91476053
They didn't say they thought that. They were asking if it was. Why not name an earlier show instead of being a dick?
>>
This is probably the most realistic cartoon ever.

And it's a good example of why people who want realism in their cartoons are mentally infirm.

Maybe If it aired on Nick but CN is usually pretty good at at least marketing shows when they come out. As long as it's not a licensed show at least. Then it goes to Boomerang and gets 100k views.

Poor phrasing (and general 4chan bitchiness) on my part.

I just get annoyed by people demanding realism in cartoons.

TTG is super mature thats why it ate up the time slots.

>bruh, what if minorities had superpowers?
sounds like it could be fun on paper, especially if something were to actually fucking happen at some point. however, if this would be just be a slice of life 21st century american high school show but asians are lizards, then the novelty would die down fast, there'd have to be some kind of draw. even if they go down the "dealing with magic in the 21st century" plotlines (ex: juggling magical dragon fire puberty w/ trying to impress girl), then they'd still be beating a dead horse that shows like Jake long and Juniper Lee got to first.
>I-It's just a short film!!it's supposed to be just this one-off animation!
what a waste of concept.
>>
i found it pretty comfy and laidback, but i see no potential for it to become a series.
>>
This is a really cool short. But that's all it should be, it wouldn't work as a show at all but it's pretty cool.

>>
>>91475220
Pretty eh.
Voice acting was bad (Sounded like people in an empty room just talking, even if the characters were in a hallway or outside).
Premise is incredibly overdone (dude being different lmao)
It's just kinda there, it'll really appeal to the pre-teens who haven't seen it a million times before and think it's cool cause it's so "mature" and what not.
>>
>>91475687
Damn they really sat on it then. I bet the creators never thought it would come out.
>>
>>91475220
It would be a good film. They could sharpen the point of their themes, plus the format kind of feels more natural when presented as a film.

As a show, not a chance.

No. That's not what it's about at all. There's no magic. You seem like an idiot.
>>
>nice contained short
>SERIES????
Absolutely not. Not everything has the potential to go on as a full series. This is an extremely slow paced short and I don't honestly know how you could make it an episodic show without completely ruining the original tone or intention

Same thing happened with Bee and Puppycat and we know how that ended. People just need to accept that not everything has DEEPEST LORE or deeper meanings they can jerk off about on Tumblr

This makes me wish that there was a network in between that can cater us with shows for a mature audience but not too intense you know.

Get a load of the fags in this thread.

I think it'd do fine as a miniseries (similar to OtGW), but that's about as much as it has in it. An episodic sort of thing could work out, but I doubt it'd do well given the sensibilities of audiences nowadays.

I see a lot of shitters saying that it's boring or has a premise that's been done before but I feel hard pressed to find a genuine-natured show about a fucking Kaiju who goes to school and is a normal dude and everyone's normal and nothing's bullshit fairy tale fictional cliche nonsense except for the conceit.

Also, everyone who thinks it's some magical realism shit and the main character is supposed to represent minorities has a bit too much tumblr in their system. Dude's a fucking dragon. The short opens with a reflection on his relationship to other mythical creatures.

TL;DR: /co/ has no taste at 5 AM.
