they knew better, it's just they were under pressure to crank out the scripts, and eventually you run out of banter. i heard a great interview with the head writer once, someone asked the ludicrous question of whether they, like the simpsons writers, ever got to go on writing retreats. he answered it like he'd just been asked whether sweatshop workers occasionally pull diamonds out of their asses

now that said, you watch a show like Biker Mice from Mars, and the banter is fucking fantastic start to finish. The weird scientist villain guy voiced by a woman had no end of bizarre and fantastic phrases he used to suck up to his boss, and the mice all sound like legit wisecrackers. One time they just.. sang Midnight Special. Because why not? then another version of it over the credits that sounded even better. Rob Paulsen, the guy from 90210, and some other guy.
it is a massive shame that the show came back, voices and all, but was crummily written and drawn.

that and FF were the greatest TRANSFORMATION i think a tv show ever got. Season 1 of both were goofy, awkwardly educational, and had theme songs that.. well, iron man was fine, but FF's was embarrassing.
then season 2 busted out the cash somehow, and gave us solid action quality

something similar happened but on a much lesser scale to Legion of Superheroes.

eh, artwork consistency from that period was shoddy at best. they were probably looking at the sprites most of the time. I mean that's obviously where they got koopa's design from.
i just mean they didn't have much to copy, yknow? they had to make it all up as they went. whereas the musicians got a free fuckin ride.
like at least in the zelda cartoon there was a large variety of actions they could adapt. you can make an episode involving blowing a hole in a mountain with a bomb or solving a labyrinth, you can't really make an episode about running along a bridge while fish leap at you. especially when it's clearly going to have to be more of a comedy and less of an action show based just on the art style
