This is one of my favorite issues, it reveals the mystery gun plotline that's been going since the first issue.
This reveals Steve was born in 1941, the same year he debuted in the comics.
Howdy Tex, what's up?
Now this does lead to one of the less popular things about this run: Steve is thus about 45 years old, and not really suitable as a love interest for Diana who's around 21.
Instead, they made Etta and Steve wind up together. Perez is known as a SupermanxWonder Woman shipper.
>>91350798
Not much. Planned on posting this last night, but an afternoon nap turned into an early night's sleep.
How's it going?
Speaking of Diana's age, that's also an interesting topic.
After COIE, continuity was changed so that Wonder Woman debuts in man's world during the "current" time.
>>91350827
>Perez is known as a SupermanxWonder Woman shipper.
Lots of writers i have no idea what year the Superman/Wonder Woman ship debut.
Diana had always been several years younger than Clark and Bruce, so it wasn't that big a deal. But it basically made it so she could no longer be a founding Justice League member, which was a controversial decision.
Didio ended up being pretty vehemently against it and it was retconned after Infinite Crisis that she WAS a founding member.
>>91350907
>Didio ended up being pretty vehemently against it and it was retconned after Infinite Crisis that she WAS a founding member.
I thought it was morrison that made the retcon in his JLA relaunch.
>>91350877
It started becoming a thing post-Crisis. I think it was Byrne who was really against it.
I don't really get why Perez did all the "fated to be together" thing in this issue if he wasn't going to actually have them have any sort of romance.
>>91350960
I blamed perez for underusing Steve.
>rattle my bones
>>91350952
Nope, that was around the time JLA Year One came out that depicted Black Canary in her place, and Batman and Supes not being founding members either.
Of course, Morrison being Morrison he basically just acted like the O7 were still a thing.
After Infinite Crisis it was officially retconned that the trinity WERE in fact founding members, but for some reason they also kept Canary, so until New 52 there were actually EIGHT founding Leaguers.
>>91350827
Pretty good. With the sales figures for last month starting to come in and the Company Wars starting up again, I was going to storytime JLA/vengers, but tonight seem quite busy for different storytimes, so I might delay it a bit
>>91351028
I've wanted to read that for a long time. Is that one pencilled by Perez or am I misremembering?
When it revealed Diana was named after this lady, I was kind of expecting her to be a bigger deal than just someone who they knew for all of 3 minutes.
She got some bitching armor, though.
>>91351010
>Of course, Morrison being Morrison he basically just acted like the O7 were still a thing.
Based Grant https://youtu.be/7SrN164PMGY
>>91351047
It is Busiek and Perez. It eventually came out in 2003, but had been in the can for a while. The "super deluxe" rip I have has like 40 pages of other sketches that I probably won't post to keep it in one thread. I have to say, the colouring is kind of crappy on my eyes. I don't think it was ever released digitally, so they appear to be legit scans. Copies of the hardcover go for $400 on Canadian amazon
Havent been here for the earlier threads. What else are you planning on storytiming? I'm guessing Rucka among others
I gotta admit, I do a pretty spot on Morrison impression.
>>91351114
It would probably be a rights nightmare to release nowadays. Especially with DC and Marvel being on some shitty console warz terms right now.
>>91351114
No DC Marvel Crossover or reprints Thank Quesada. Mr. Quesada is convinced that some good old-fashioned gloves-off rivalry will be good for business. “I liked it when the two companies hated each other,” he said. “It made it better for the fans. You know, if you like DC, then you hated Marvel. If you like Marvel, then you hated DC.”
“What the fuck is DC anyway?” Mr. Quesada said, stoking the fires. “They’d be better off calling it AOL Comics. At least people know what AOL is. I mean, they have Batman and Superman, and they don’t know what to do with them. That’s like being a porn star with the biggest dick and you can’t get it up. What the fuck?” (Paul Levitz, DC’s president and publisher, declined to comment for this story through a spokesperson.

>>91351120
I've got a big list.
I'm doing two Messner-Loebs arcs, a Jiminez arc, A League of One, a Kelly JLA arc about her, all of Rucka, a bit of Simone, andEarth-One.
I wanna go for as long as I can so I have some "honorable mentions" after that including a sampling of Golden Age, Silver Age, and two Bronze Age stories, one Byrne arc, the "Agent Diana Prince" era, the JMS oddity- I mean, odyssey, and really anything else I think of. It'll all be Dropbox'd as well for folks who prefer to download.
>>91351167
>>91351215
I wish Quesada would have become the fan punching bag back then instead of Didio who really didn't deserve it.
>>91351191
I don't think I have a mic but if I find it I'll do that "Morrison plans to have sex with the DC Universe" thing.
>>91351354
>I wish Quesada would have become the fan punching bag back then instead of Didio who really didn't deserve it.
Axel is taking didio role.
Also this issue is Greek mythology porn.

>BE SURE TO FOLLOW DIANA'S ADVENTURES IN MILENNIUM #1, ON SALE NOW!!
>>91351335
Good luck OP and bless you
>>91351368
There has got to be something in the water over there. Axel did so well at Vertigo, what the fuck happened to him over at M? Maybe Bond and Berger were always doing the heavy lifting
>>91351407
I had actually never even heard of that guy, whoever he was.
>>91351412
Berger and Bond were absolute geniuses at securing and fostering talent. If the current talent slate at Marvel is anything to go by, Alonso didn't learn much from them.
>>91351335
>a Jiminez arc
I'm guessing the Gotham one? People seem to like that one the most.
>A League of One
yay
>>91351451
Yeah I thought the guy was a random editor but turns out he's VP?
Kinda going against what I said the other day about the idea of a "Mediterranean" Wonder Woman, I did some research into the historicity of the Amazons and found that there actually is good evidence for them being based on a real place, and the Amazons being inspired by Israeil warrior women.
So it actually would be pretty cool if DC had an equivalent to the Ultimate universe to have the Amazons to be based on the historical ones instead of the mythological ones.
Though I guess Earth-One was supposed to be their Ultimate equivalent, WW Earth-One was more like an All-Star Wonder Woman than a realistic reimagining like Batman and Superman.
>>91351457
Actually not that one, I think it was called Gods of Gotham. One I'm doing is about the Amazonian civil war.
>>91351493
VP of Sales, so like, the worst person to be making those statements, then rapidly retracting them
Here we have Ferdinand, Knuckles the Echidna, and a Shin Megami Tensei enemy.
>>91351550
I kinda wish Morrison had got to keep it as The Trial of Diana Prince and let somebody else do Earth One.
>One I'm doing is about the Amazonian civil war.
Nice, been a while since I've read Jimenez's run
And Wondie straight up suplexing a minotaur
>>91351571
>rapidly retracting them
This is the best part desu
That whole thing caused everybody else to just say what's wrong with marvel right now and now there's a bunch of articles about that floating around so you know marvel's pretty mad about that lol
>>91351602
My feelings exactly. I mean Rucka and Scott's Year One started out as Earth-One IIRC. And we all know Morrison's started out as All-Star.
That reminds me of a few more things I wanted to do, the Jill Thompson book The True Amazon, Len Wein's Legend of Wonder Woman and the recent digital first Legend of Wonder Woman series, as well as the digital first Wonder Woman '77 series.
>>91351629
Yeah, everyone's already been shitting all over Marvel for a few months, so those statements were basically him saying "bring it on, dogpile us!"
The Len Wein series is one I've never read. After COIE this series we're reading was supposed to launch much sooner, but Perez took his sweet time.
As many know, back then there was a licensing issue where if DC didn't put out 4 comics a year with Wonder Woman in the title, they would lose the rights. But DC also didn't want to kill the hype surrounding the big Wonder Woman relaunch, so Wein did this miniseries called Legend of Wonder Woman, and I have no ideas as to the quality of this series.
And we get more Millennium tie-in crap. Easily the worst thing about this era.
Be back after ritual coffee break.
>>91351666
>>91351629
So far the fallout seems to be: Mainstream Media talking about Marvel's failures, his comments, Waid deleting his twitter after screaming something about libel, and America #1 suddenly being free on comixology
>>91351796
America #1 being free I don't think is related. It's a good move and one they commonly do. Less mainstream books, including Vision and Mosaid, need a push to get people buying, and giving away a free issue or doing a buy one get one free kind of thing is a great way of advertising a book.
I mean, America probably doesn't really deserve it, but at least Marvel are putting support behind something that isn't an Avengers book or an event.
This is an amazing cover, BTW.
I've talked about it before but Marvel wisely does want to get some "critical hit" books like Vision that sell really well in trade long after they're finished.
Coates was one attempt, Mockingbird may have been another, America definitely is. They want to nab big talent before they get big.
But I guess they didn't foresee that their choice to write America would be godawful and liked by nobody.
Greek myth as FUCK
I was reading a bunch of stuff about Heracles yesterday. He's such a goddamn superhero. His art on vases was basically ancient comic books.
>>91351895
He got very upset at the coverage David Gabriel's interview received, particularly by Bleeding Cool. After wishing violent on one of BC's writers, he went on a rant about suing a "foreign website" for libel on Monday and then deleted his account. https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/04/02/marvels-mark-waid-weighs-face-punching-debate-not-nazis-bleeding-cool-reporters/
I just gotta hear Zeus' voice as Rip Torn.
>>91352034
I wonder if Waid did it on his own or if someone at Marvel finally had enough of his constant PR nightmares and made him do it.
>>91352090
Maybe someone at marvel glad he closed his twitter is not good for old man to be acting liked teen on social media.
>>91352090
>Diana holding a half-naked hunk like a damsel.
Classic Wonder Woman.
>>91352090
>>91352034
This whole latest thing must have been seriously bad internally, because Marvel doesn't seem to give a shit about what their writers say about things that are not related to Marvel
>>91352155
As we know Marvel does subscribe to the "any publicity is good publicity" philosophy, said publicity would have to be catastrophically dire to warrant internal panic.
>>91352155
Speaking of twitter does DC have a social media policy. Liz and ray firing.
>>91352215
I think Simone has said something or other about it at some point.
>>91352228
Cool.
>>91352215
>Liz and ray firing.
They gotta have a marvel book coming out soon, right?
I vaguely remember her saying they're expected to behave themselves but no one has ever gotten in trouble yet, and she implied that it's just common sense there to not act like an unprofessional baby.
If anybody Simone definitely knows how volatile fans can be.
>>91352264
It's been awhile since the DeLiz thing so I don't remember the official reason, just that it was immediately dug up that they had a history of unprofessional behavior. Lemme look up some articles
>>91352260
I hope soon.
>>91352260
Legend of Squirrel-Girl when?
One thing that I always notice when Greek mythological characters are used in the present day is that, despite all the drama and hijinks they got up to in antiquity, basically nothing seems to have happened since the decline of Greece and the modern era.
Like they all just took a vacation for a couple thousand years.
>>91352302
I think it had to do with them complaining about not getting to do more Legend of Wonder Woman books or not getting to do some for Batman and Superman.
>>91351862
>including Vision and Mossad
Damn, I didn't know Ike the Kike was that open about his past.
>>91352435
Article I just read said that publicly all we know is they posted a lot of disparaging tweets about DC and then deleted them shortly after. DC of course didn't comment on it but various "sources" said the tweets were just "the tip of the iceberg of unprofessional behavior and the tweets were just the last straw".
Of course all that is just hearsay and I can't judge them based on that. However there is a long documented history of them doing kickstarters and commissions and never delivering, which is kind of damning.
Still wanna read LOWW, and if that's good I'll be looking forward to what they do next. Could be the kind of creators Marvel really needs right now.
>>91352497
Ahahaha didn't even notice that typo.
>>91352435
If I recall correctly, people realized that the husband had made a bunch of angry complaints about DC greenlighting a book about the Amazons (Odyssey of the Amazons I think), but was upset that it was not being written by a woman or something.
It was incredibly poorly timed, because their book was just slated for another printing
Apparently if you take the second letter of every third word in Mosaic #1, it spells out "ISRAEL WILL RISE AGAIN".
>>91352538
The irony being that absolutely nobody is reading or seems to even be aware of Odyssey of the Amazons.
>Don’t miss the start of this new miniseries set in the world of Wonder Woman from writer/actor Kevin Grevioux (New Warriors, Underworld). Years before the birth of Princess Diana, a group of Amazons set out on a globe-spanning quest to find others of their kind, encountering legendary creatures and beings along the way. But their journey soon turns into a rescue mission as two of their own are captured by the legendary Storm Giants of Norse mythology. It’s up to their leader, the stalwart Hessia, to keep them together through the many trials that lie ahead.
So Wonder Woman vs Thor
>>91352574
Bless the Guardian for actually covering this in a not-clickbait form:
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/dec/20/wonder-woman-writer-artist-ray-dillon-renae-de-liz-dropped-dc-relationship
>The critically acclaimed, Eisner-nominated comic series The Legend of Wonder Woman has been cancelled by DC Comics, because of what a spokesperson for DC called “a challenging relationship” with the husband and wife team behind the series.
>Since the cancellation was announced, fans have been wondering whether it was due to poor sales, or studio sexism towards Wonder Woman. However, the DC spokesperson told the Guardian that though “we loved the book and we were very excited to work on the collected volume”, the studio was concerned about Dillon’s public comments about other teams at DC on social media.
>In a series of now-deleted tweets, preserved online on Bleeding Cool, Dillon criticised the writing in another DC series, Wonder Woman: Earth One, and complained when DC approved future volumes of Earth One while he was waiting to hear about the future of his own series.
>On hearing the news that Kevin Grevioux had been confirmed to write a series about the Amazonians, titled The Odyssey of the Amazons, Dillon alleged that he and De Liz had already pitched a similar idea to DC but had never heard back about it. De Liz also complained, tweeting that while she was happy the series would happen, she “felt I could have added a lot as a female creator”.
>>91352574
>Apparently if you take the second letter of every third word in Mosaic #1, it spells out "ISRAEL WILL RISE AGAIN".
how would anyone find this out
or was it the writer who just put it in there and then told everybody
>>91352633
>Dillon criticised the writing in another DC series, Wonder Woman: Earth One, and complained when DC approved future volumes of Earth One while he was waiting to hear about the future of his own series.
While I support the privilege of writers to be able to criticize other works their company is publishing, are they really confused at why fucking Grant Morrison is getting precedence over them?
>Dillon alleged that he and De Liz had already pitched a similar idea to DC but had never heard back about it.
Yeah, the old "they stole my 100% original idea!" schtick.
It does seem like they were not getting much recognition from DC for their success on LOWW, to be fair. I guess we can't know for sure what kind of behavior they were demonstrating to DC but if I had to guess, DC might have been hesitant to make any commitments with them because of their experiences with the duo.

>>91355936
Holy shit, that is some quality butthurt.
>>91355850
I think they have an understandable distrust of the outside world. When they were part of the world stage, men were pretty much completely dominant in Greek society, which is why they still view the world outside Paradise Island as "Man's World". And then of course they were literally enslaved and raped by men, and just because they fought back they were basically banished forever.
And as actually shown earlier in this issue, the Amazons don't all share the same views. Some see the wars and conflicts of the world and think they should keep themselves isolated from it, some think they need to become ambassadors of peace and help them.
Part of Diana's role is to bridge the gap between Amazons and Man's World and soothe the distrust the Amazons have.
As for sexism, they are sometimes depicted that way, but I don't really like it. In this run they kind of treat both mortal men and women as part of "Man's World" instead of just the men. In some other runs, especially some of the edgier ones in the early 2000's, the Amazons think all men are pigs and all that shit.
In short, in most depictions I don't think the Amazons hate men or think women are superior, but they strive for peace and love and are probably rightfully wary of opening themselves up to the world that is full of as much strife as peace.
And the sexism I think is not a good trait because it makes their entire society look like a bunch of assholes. I'm sure there are some Amazons that simply will always think poorly of males, but just like how there's still racist douches in our society, they're the minority.

Zeus may have been forced to kill Chronus, but I think he probably could have done without castrating him.

Same here i loved the way perez draws curly hair Diana, Kori and Wanda.
>>91357610
Agreed 100%. Straight hair Kori is unforgivable. The voluminous curly hair is gorgeous.

That design appears over and over in JLA/Avengers, even though (From what I hear) it was not her current design

Thanks for storytiming!

Why'd Perez have to be such a wanker and undermine WW by making her fawn after Superman? It's one thing when SM writers do it, but WW writers doing it is pure cringe.
This is one of my favorite runs in all of comics.
>>91361166
Same here.
>>91358435
Imo, this is the best issue of Perez' run
>>91359202
I really liked Mindy for some reason I will never figure out. I'm around 2001 in pre new 52 WW and "Ghosts" is my favorite WW oneshot so far.
>>91361091
At least they kind of backtracked on it, but still trinity shipping is garbage.
>>91366346
Backtracking doesn't repair the damage done. Trinity shipping is practically non-existent apart from this garbage, which for some reason receives way too much attention.
>>91367561
This is true.
Morning bumpo.

This woman is an impostor. WW doesn't lie.

I've always taken "Man's World" to mean not just a world dominated by males (though that's definitely a factor) but also a world full of mortals and their follies
Just caught up with Year One, I gotta say I'm incredibly impressed. I think it'll end up being my favorite Wonder Woman origin so far (I love Perez's backstory for the Amazons but Rucka took that as a foundation, took all of the good stuff about Perez's origin and made it better).
I wish it had come out a few years ago so the movie could have just been based on it. I haven't felt this happy reading a new comic in a long time. Whole thing just put a smile on my face.
Also it definitely paid off to wait instead of reading it monthly. Reading it in one go is a trip.
Definitely adding it to my storytime list.
>>91373178
Exactly.

Oh, and THE best version of Steve, excluding the Golden Age version.
