That analogy is incorrect because the show didn't die, it was on an 11 year hiatus. The story wasn't finished which left fans wondering just how it could have been resolved. It isn't such a hard thing to grasp that fans would be upset that they'll have to miss a week for something they've been waiting to see for such a long time, especially when it wasn't a prank so much as "we're just not showing it".

No, but neither was the show. It took time but it came back. I wasn't angry about it being bumped, I got to watch R&M and enjoyed it. But I can understand a person being bothered by having a show bumped for another, especially if they watched the show from the beginning, whereas I only started watching it very recently.

The only way I can understand it, aside from the dad thing, is an update to one of the armies from WHFB. I waited over 10 years for an update and the game was killed off. It was finally added to Total War: Warhammer but I still had to wait until February to have it playable in game, which I found arbitrary. I had waited a long time and I just wanted to play it. I could wait but I didn't have to like it. The point is that I don't see the point in trivializing someone's interest in a show because you could apply that same logic to just about everything just to be a dick.

The difference between a show being dead and on a long hiatus is if the original creator/crew are still alive/interested and if the rights to the product in question are held in a deathgrip or not. Plenty of shows and movies never get sequels, extra seasons because the creator won't play ball or the studio that owns it won't let anything be done with the IP. Jack went "on hiatus" because Genndy wanted to work on Clone Wars. But when a changing of the guard occurs at the network, that makes the creator unwilling or unable to return, we'd call that a cancellation.

Not that it matters anyway. Ten years is enough to consider a hiatus a cancellation for anyone sane, as shows have been "un-cancelled" in even smaller timeframes (Futurama, Family Guy, Young Justice, etc).

Yes Rick is an atheist but he's also an asshole, alcoholic, casually sexist, immoral, etc. He's not supposed to be a character you model your life after. And the devil is shown to exist in one episode which at least on the face of it would seem to disprove his atheism.

I don't find the show to be very political at all. Dan Harmon is liberal but it doesn't come across in Rick and Morty in any obvious ways. Same with his old show Community, I mean it had a diverse cast I guess but it pretty much poked fun at every group, used some racial or sexist humor, etc. R&M is the same way. Shows like Family Guy are way more annoyingly in your face with their politics and lecturing.
