Was anyone else here amazed when watching "Homer3" for the first time?

Heck, it's crazy how the animation still holds up today too.
>>
Seeing Homer in the real world unsettled me greatly as a child.
>>
>>91308935
loved it. we referred to the entire episode as "3d homer" from then on
i also loved the jokes in it, sadly the best one got cut out in syndication
>>91308960
yeah the cg was... different, right? softer, looked more real. almost claymation.
>>
The music cue that plays when he drools into the fish pool always struck a kind of sad chord with me. Years later It blew my mind to find out it was based on an actual song.

Homer3, like Toy Story, still kind of holds up because of how cartoony/simplistically human the Simpsons and the rest of the Springfielders are drawn/animated

>>91308960
The only ending to a Treehouse of Horror sketch that made me uneasy was the one where Maggie was Marge and Kang's off-spring
>>
>>91309286
Source?
>>
>>91309487
I'm with this guy, tell us more. I know that building was supposed to be a nod to Myst, but the music cue just felt like the semi-new-age atmosphere music that seemed to be popular for early 3D/CGI(Myst, Journeyman Project). I would be interested in knowing the source.
>>
>>91309458
someone needs to explain to me someday why jurassic park still looks photorealistic despite being made in fuckin 93, requiring complex skin textures and lighting, and having a scene in the RAIN
>>
>>91310044
the chord change indicates to me that at the very least it's a real song that someone composed, not just ambience like a lot of the rest of it
>>
>>91308960
Same, I don't know why but I got really scared for some reason.
>>
>>91310069
Jurassic Park was a mix of animatronics, special effects, and CGI. The imperfections of the CGI was usually hidden by dark lighting as well
>>
>>91308935
I want to live in that world. Drink that water. Eat that fish. Be that aesthetic.
>>
>>91310069
The pure cg bits don't. See the scene with the running things.
>>
>>91308960
It's the only THOH that ends well for the guy. He gets to eat chocolate.
>>
>>91310069
The dinosaurs weren't all CG, a lot of them were animatronic/props. It's a lot easier to make fake dinosaurs when they are right next to real ones for comparison.
>>
>>91311694
>chocolate

Erotic cakes.
>>
>>91308935
Has anybody seen that movie Tron?
>>
The animation absolutely does not hold up. Even the graphics in Simpsons Hit & Run were better.
>>
Yeah, this was far from the first time that CGI had been used in traditional media, it was already becoming ubiquitous as a supplement for practical effects and 2D animation, but fully-fleshed out CGI animations of any kind of quality were few and far between. Coming just before Toy Story, this was one of the first full CG narrative things (i.e. not a 30 second video game cutscene or a 2 minute art project) that I had seen and the concept was still very otherworldly, as the episode made top use of.
>>
>>91312211
No
>>
>>91309219
What joke got cut?
>>
>>91309286

I guess "inspired by" would be more appropriate. As >>91310044 hit on apparently the couple of notes that plays when's he's at the pool is is similar to a part in the game Myst's "antechamber theme". Apologies if I got anyone's hopes up.
>>
>>91312211
no
>>
>>91308935
>it's crazy how the animation still holds up today too

If I recall correctly, the production crew for the 3D was obscenely perfectionist (or told to be so) about making Homer and Bart look "right"

The cgi is certainly dated but in terms of turning a Simpsons character into a 3D model they did it perfectly.
>>
>>91308960
I always imagined him trying to find the real-world counterparts to Marge and the kids and trying to pick his life back up.
>>
>>91308960
It made me sad because I figured Homer would be stuck there forever and his family would never see him again
>>
I didn't know what to think. I remember seeing Toy Story in theaters and I don't remember it. It was different to say the least, but I didn't know what to say or think. Same with the jump from 2D to 3D video games. It just happened and I rolled with it.

He's obviously referring to the animatronic figures.
>>

The score for this segment is fucking beautiful too. That bit where Homer's walking across the world, looking at his reflection in the pool? Fantastic.

soory i mean "forechamber"

it somehow gave me night terrors and I couldn't stand even being in the same room when simpsons was playing for months
>>
>>91310069
The rain was actually put in due to the limitations of the CGI. Everything looked glossy, which looks shitty normally but great in the rain.
>>
HOLY MACARONI
>>
>>91308935
What really holds up is the Tron joke. Original or Legacy, no one saw it

It was done by a dude that was really passionate about CGI and had obsessive levels of love for the craft of making CGI things feel actually real.

He's working for the government with Jamie from Mythbusters now apparently.

The T-Rex in the rain scene was actually an enormous animatronic. The CG in the 'Welcome to Jurassic Park' scene still works beautifully.

The only scene that's still jarringly fake to me is when Sam Neill and the kids are sitting in a tree watching the herbivore eating leaves. Very clearly an animatronic puppet head.

Yes...I mean no. No.

>The T-Rex in the rain scene was actually an enormous animatronic.
Mostly, though there's a few shots in that scene where it's CGI, like when we first see it step out of the enclosure.

Basically anytime we see the entire body in motion it's CGI.

>The cgi is certainly dated but in terms of turning a Simpsons character into a 3D model they did it perfectly.

True, but it's also aged more gracefully than most of its contemporaries due to it being stylized CGI, not something trying to strive for realism.
>>
>>91310069
because they hid the cgi in backgrounds and grainy lighting rather than waving it in your face and showing it off up front.
Also, any closeups were robotics/practical effects.

TLDR: practical effects>CGI
