Contrary to popular belief, comics aren't about fighting like shonen manga.

They have fights, but they're limited to a couple of pages in an issue.

Most fights in comics are not actually resolved by punching, but by the hero coming up with a creative solution. Because 75 years of winning everything by punching would get boring really fast.

I'm not trying to look down on shonen manga. It's just an intrinsic difference between the two. The fighting is the entire appeal to shonen, the appeal to comics is action and adventure, like in American action films. Now that I think about it, it's kind of like the difference between, say, Fist of Fury and Die Hard.

That's because cape comics aren't about fighting, it's mostly about the drama in the character's lives/mystery adventures. Been that way ever since Comics Code. They usually just find a way to stop the villain or trick them.

Here an example, lets see this >>91303282, we see some flash attacking jordan, a big splash page with 3 moments of Jordan getting kicked out. But even here it kinda sucks, because you may think it is action to action, but it is not: you can see Hal losing his ground and in the third punch he is already got his ground and then lost again. And also the breakdown in the dialogue, there is a passage of time that the artist doesn't get right. It is a Flash there, he could draw flash already speaking with jordan knocked out in the ground, flash being could've been more inovative, even put more content in these 2 pages, reactions, little panels, things like that.

It's usually a length issue. A really good fight usually takes a lot of pages to really pay off. You practically need an issue for each build up and change of momentum. Manga will commonly spend a hundred or more pages on a fight. Goku's fight with freiza was something like 300 pages and that was after his friends spent some 100 pages fighting him themselves. Unless a western comic is willing to devote a year or more to a single fight it's just not going to get the pages to make it work at the same level.

Why is it always fighting scenes that people bring up when comparing manga to american comics? Do you people not read any other type of manga or comic?

Ultimately it wouldn't matter how well it's drawn, though good art will always be a plus. Any fight is only as good as the context around it at the end of the day. Example Ishinomori had some pretty meh art, but he could tell a good story with it. Consequently, the fights in Cyborg 009 are interesting. Inversely good art can't save a shit fight. So really just read the stories.
