One part I think is just that Christians have a weird fixation on sheep metaphors.

The main joke is that Christ was executed and buried and it wasn't until Joseph of Arimathea and the other saints were dead that people began spouting about Jesus's supposed Resurrection, but the joke is kind of ruined by the fact that that's still of historical contention because the earliest surviving Christian documents and first New Testament book were written only a couple decades after the execution and it's generally believed there must have been ones earlier than those.

So there really is no solid proof that people weren't talking about a Resurrection as early as three days after Jesus was dead in the ground.
