I don't really know about your second question but I thought it was a solid ending.
A series that's built up on the bonds between the characters shows the other side of the spectrum as well.
Sometimes people want to start anew and won't continue your perception of them.

I can't speak for the little kids who were watching it without talking about the show online, but everyone online knew that this was going to be the final episode unless it miraculously got renewed again (which wasn't likely).

Fun fact: Season 5 was originally ordered as 26 episodes, but got cut down to the normal 13 at some point in production. Slade was supposed to have a role in the last season, but it got scrapped when they lost half of their episodes.

This story came out years after they themselves had said what I did about failing Snyder's pitch-a-rama. Murakami was on social media begging us to buy the merch to keep the show renewed.

And now, years later after Snyder kept the entire production team intact and employed making Ben 10, suddenly RH is saying "no, we were meaning to end this and totally didn't have a season arc for Cyborg planned" sounds pretty fucking fishy to me.
