What's nice is that Ash now has a personality, a dumb one but a lovable one, not unlike in XY where while competent lack any sort of personality almost all the time.

Plus it nice to see the Alola series is about Ash personally and not about Ash's Companions, giving him some alone time to explore Alola and succeed on the trials. With the friend this series having a focus an episode instead of them being grouped together every episode.
