What did /co/ think of Frank Miller's Ronin? I just read it and enjoyed it, although I felt that the twist weakened the story.
Nothing?

>I felt that the twist weakened the story.
You're not wrong.
It goes great until that twist which completely nullifies everything kind of cool about the first third of the story.

It's pretty great and the hardcover is eye candy. I didn't realize it was literally Samurai Jack going into it

Damn, Aku looks like THAT???

Awesome until it went to the future. Then everything got bubonic plague and the writing turned into limp, 70's style drama.
So, yeah. 1st issue was the cliff.

Completely true. This is a shame, because the first act is great, and the twist is great.
I liked it but stopped before the end, thinking it would incentivize me to go out and buy it.
Has Genndy ever confirmed that Ronin is the inspiration for samurai Jack?

I don't think so, but it's fairly obvious

Animation director Genndy Tartakovsky has stated that Ronin was one of the major influences on his animated TV series Samurai Jack, with Miller's 300 also inspiring an episode.[10] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronin_(DC_Comics)

There so much of it's creator in the book, it's incredible. You will never see something like that from corporate owned comics again.
The urban landscape, and the modern residents are always presented in a dark, dangerous, criminal light. When else but 80's New York could this have been written? Who else but Frank Miller after his multiple muggings? I can't imagine anything like that being written today.

Well, it isn't meant to be cool. It's a reflection on power fantasies and escapism.
