You can say anything you want about Scott Snyder's writing or him trying to push his OCs so fucking hard, but he's a real gentleman, unlike Spencer.
>>
>>91138440
Scott Snyder is always a nice and polite guy. I may not always like his stories, but he's a decent guy.

Wish Spencer was this humble.
>>
>>91138440
How come DC creative teams are so more mature than Marvel's.
>>
>>91138910
I know is rich the leach site. https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/03/27/gail-simone-says-something-complicated-social-media-silence-contracts-writers/
>>
>>91138910
Marvel has a toxic editorial culture according to Gail Simone.
>>
>>91138910
Marvel doesn't have the workout culture that DC does. Endorphins from exercise make you happier.
>>
>>91139048

http://archive.is/QRwUB

Funny how Rich doesn't remember that him reposting everything (and not McDuffie speaking out in the first place) was what got him fired from JLA.
>>
>>91138910
Because they limit what their writers can say on social media like an actual company.
>>
>>91139241
Thank you.
>>
>>91139241
>Funny how Rich doesn't remember that him reposting everything (and not McDuffie speaking out in the first place) was what got him fired from JLA.
Why is that? I wasn't around for that.
>>
>>91138440
He's. I actually think he has a better manner than King.
>>
>>91139241
I'm sure he remembers but doesn't want to accept that responsibility publicly.

>>91139361
Like what kind of stuff McDuffie was staying? It was pretty normal talk of editorial constraints. Basically the same kind of stuff you expect for the main JL book. Characters you can use, shit you have to tie into, stories that have to change due to what a character might be doing in another book, etc.
>>
>>91139432
So then why did the reporting get him fired?
>>
>>91139568
Rich sensationalized it like McDuffie was complaining about DC and hated the job or something. The actual content of the posts were fair but it seemed worse in that light and was bad PR.
>>
>>91139568
because he only posted the bad parts and made it look like he was badmouthing dc 24/7.
>>
>>91139241
Just finished reading it. So basically, both Marvel and DC are equally bad.

Firing one of your employees just because they criticized one of your properties is a bit too much.
>>
>>91139627
>>91139658
This gets said a lot, but it's still not often enough:

Fuck Rich Johnston.

Like good for him for being a master of clickbait and basically monopolizing comic industry scoops, but it seems like he just gets off on stirring shit.
>>
>>91138910
Older and more mature with personal story.

According to Wikipedia.

DC got :
Tom King : An actual CIA agent
Snyder: Got a degree in creative writing, worked in a few real job, excepcially as a custodian at night.
Geoff Johns: Worked with Richard Donner, who made the first Superman movie, had a personnal tragedy with the loss of his sisters, grown up in Detroit so he know what blue-collar are.

Marvel on the other hand as:
Bendis: White guilt-man. To the point he adopted two girl from Africa.
Waid: Same of Bendis but worse since he is ways more agressive about it. A shell o a broken man. He never worked in anything else except comics.
Matt Fraction: Married to Kelly Sue DeConnick
Kelly Sue DeConnick: Professionnal victim. She actual had an interesting life. She was rising in different air base, she is a recovering alcoholic. She should have been able to write a decent Carol instead of writing shit. She was a perfect fit. But she first became interested in comic books and feminism due to her mother.

And that was the "decent" people at Marvel, that have written something that matter a little.

The other are tumblirite with a victimhood complex and an agenda bigger than the freaking bible.

Gabby Rivera : Write America, one of the worst if not the worst book. A litterally who, whose only work before is soft porn for lesbian.
>>
>>91139723
It could be worse. Some industries like sports make you scrub your feeds entirely when you work for them. And even if you don't work for them they will pull credentials if you badmouth the team.

>>91139786
Pretty sure most of those on the DC side are actually younger than those Marvel examples. Like King is not even 40 yet iirc.
>>
>>91139786
both her and fraction are recovering alcoholics iirc that met on a board that ellis used to run.
>>
>>91139786
>cherry picking
>>
>>91139786
What about Priest and Coates? I remember Coates being a scholastic writer or something
>>
>>91139786
Waid is more of a DC guy though. He has a lot more history with that company, it's only in recent years that he started to work a lot for Marvel.
>>
>>91139786
geoff johns grew up in a detroit suburb. his mom used to own a candle store. he also apparently see himself as part Lebanese (since that is a thing in MI).
>>
>>91138887

Snyder is an amazing man. A gentleman of gentleman.
>>
>>91139862
>Coates

Coates, while having interesting ideas about race in america, has never written fiction of any kind before, and boy does it show
>>
>>91139862
Priest - former Marvel editor. Quit because Marvel screwed him on BP and CA. Only there because DC gave a non-Black character to write.

>>91139872
>it's only in recent years that he started to work a lot for Marvel.

Because he feels DC screwed him when he came back on Flash after the Death of Bart in Countodown (which they did). And then destroying all the work he did on Wally. Not to mention denying him EiC job he wanted and was promised him.
>>
>>91139900
>he also apparently see himself as part Lebanese (since that is a thing in MI).

This is odd phrasing, his father is literally a Lebanese immigrant
>>
>>91139838
Yes, it is true, I just checked their age to see if I could prove you are wrong.

But no, you are right. It is just that DC writer have more interesting life. I assumed they were older.

ANd my example actually suck, they are the old top writer who write shit since forever.

Damn I fell old now. Just realised Bendis has been working for Marvel since 2000.
>>

>>
>>91139989

USM started in 2000. He worked on other stuff before too. But I don't want to bother reading everything else he did.
>>
>>91138440
That's pretty classy. Refreshing to see a mature attitude in Twitter screencaps for once.
>>
>>91139967
Priest has gone back and forth between the two companies a lot.
>>
>>91140107
Basic math. You can only lose by being a dick in Twitter.
>> Speak politics --> Split your andiance in two.
>> Insult people about drawing style --> Alienate people who actualy like it.

>> Shut the fuck up --> Don't lose anything.
>> Be nice to people --> ???
>>
>>91138910
It's in their contract to not go full retard on social media.
>>
>>91140166
>Priest has gone back and forth between the two companies a lot.

He hasn't gone back to Marvel since Disassembled ruptured relations with them. He was mostly gone from the industry until recently.
>>
>>91139723
I don't see how they are even the same. DC, like every other company, fires you for publicly shit talking about your direct higher ups, while Marvel makes you sign a contract according to which you can get sued for talking bad about any of their properties. Like for example, Simone said that the contract would make her unable to say anything negative about Agents of Shield.
>>
>>91140091
Ultimate Spider-Man?
You mean Spider-Man from the Ultimate Universe?
>>
>>91139308
It's unbelievable to me that Disney has yet to tell Marvel to put a muzzle on their creators. While obviously Disney doesn't give a shit about comics, the stuff Marvel's writers are putting out on social media have the potential to tarnish brands that are currently in film development.

Normies hear that someone involved in Black Panther tweeted inflammatory comments, they don't understand that it has nothing to do with the movie.
>>
>>91139862
Coates seems miserable at Marvel.
>>
To be honest I don't give that much of a shit if a creator's asshole. My #1 pet peeve is when a creator goes namesearching and picking fights - I know Slott does that, Whitley does that, but I don't think Spencer does.
>>
>>91138440
He's just so...sunny.

Spencer tweets like a teen girl
>>
>>91138887
Its not even humble. He talks shit like there are NO good Republicans. I mean, shit, that's like half the country man. I voted for Clinton and this sonofa makes me feel bad about it.

He basically implied DC were racist for bringing back more popular characters. He's just an awful person.

She was quite reasonable, it's people who took the wrong thing from her pointing out one issue that are the problem.

Can't shoot the messenger on this.
>>
>>91140564
She cherry picked data to make it seem like comic writers were a bunch of woman-haters.
>>
>>91140586
No, all she said was that people should be careful to not only write female characters in disposable roles. You're misusing her argument probably because you've run into too many idiots who think that's what she meant.
>>
>>91140510
>>91140535
Coates' expression is great.
>>
>>91140528
Hi tumblr
>>
Scott is a genuinely cool dude.

The only time I've actually seen him go off on someone was Rob Liefeld and he even apologized to Rob even though Rob started it/was being an asshole to him and Capullo.
>>
>>91140666
There wasn't any data compiled to back that up. It was a list of women who were killed/otherwise permanently injured with no comparable list for men.
>>
>>91140274
No one is interested in any of that shit though
>>
>>91140775
But a list of male victims wouldn't support the argument that female characters should be lasting supporting characters more. It wasn't directly about male vs female victims like you're trying to say.

No they don't.

>Normies hear that someone involved in Black Panther tweeted inflammatory comments, they don't understand that it has nothing to do with the movie.

When is the last time a normie heard anything at all about what anyone involved in comics is doing?
>>
>>91140910
Actually that pic was because they told him they were gonna kill rhodey
>>
>>91140528
To be fair. I hate her NOW. I liked her on Bird of Prey. They was before she got all "need more trans, need more black, remove boob" and shit.

Nowaday I can't imagine her working on Birth of Prey with Ed Benes.

Just lot at The Movement. That is the moment when she went insane. And I don't know what part she played in the de-crippling of Barbara but that was a disaster.
>>
>>91141015
Is she still on Batgirl? Did she make that misgender panel?
>>
>>91141053
No she is writing clean room for vertigo
>>
>>91141053
No.
I don't know who write Batgirl now, but unless there is a new writer that changer back to her previous outfit, I won't care. Chnaging her back would be a show of good will.

I think Simone is no longer working for DC. That is a given. DC worked hard to clean all the bullshit and they don't need her.
>>
>>91141076
>>91141120
What about Bombshell?

I keep picturing Simone working in a lone cubicle somewhere away from the main office and Didio tossing her some characters to keep her happy like a zookeeper feeding his animal to keep her content.

In fact it feels pretty true. The editorials and writers are basically zookeepers and animals. If the zookeepers don't rein in the animal, they will behave like animals
>>
>>91141015
>And I don't know what part she played in the de-crippling of Barbara but that was a disaster.

She didn't play anything. These decisions such Batgirl or the various marriages were made on the level of EiC (Harras) or above.
>>
>>91141208
And how did all the editorial backed events like Countdown to Final Crisis/Amazons Attack/the Failed Jim Lee Wildstorm Stuff/Nu52 not demonstrate that editorial is much worse in making creative decisions than the writers. If anything it's the writes cleaning up management's mistakes.
>>
>>91139241
That's unfair. I get you want to protect a product but if you get overruled editorially and fans hate it you should at least be able to claim that you had nothing to do with it. Like the nu52 static shock guy.

I just like my Barbara on a wheelchair. Not because of social stuff or ableism, but because she was Oracle, she was a former Batgirl, it was character development, I don't with it retgone.

Also I don't know where you get that silly motion there is girl on the Internet.

Amazons Attack, the result of dealing with MurderWondy.

"I'm CIA."
>>
>>91142907
1) >ruined by Morrison.

Morrison wanted them to take the NG off the table and put them on hiatus. DC refused to listen. Almost all of Countdown was engineered by editorial under the slogan of >52 done right

2) Turning the Amazons into assholes who went killing people and running the event from editorial side while giving the writers no control would be why it was shit.

MurderWondy had nothing to do with this.

3) Jim Lee Nu52 Wildstorm. Don't bother defending it.

Their top brass lead by example. Didio, Lee and Johns are always really professional.

Conversely Marvel's top guys are fucking man children that actively want DC to go out of business. Especially the faggot Quesada.

Marvel's current heads are the reason the friendly rivalry of the past is basically gone. They started taking it way too seriously so DC took their ball and went home.
>>
>>91140274
But Marvel should be kicking DC's ass. They put out around 25% more books and constantly massively overship them, not to mention Marvel (pretty much since their creation) have sold way more than DC.

DC kicking Marvel's ass this last almost year is just a testament to how shitty Marvel has been in recent years and how good DC has been since Rebirth.

Plus I'm not even that confident any of that stuff will be a hit for Marvel (past issue #1) since they've all pretty much still got the same shitty creative teams behind them that they do now.

WTF!

>>
>>91140509
Spencer is terrible. After saying there was no diversity at DC, someone pointed out all the progressive titles DC was churning out and Spencer's response was more or less "ew nerd"
>>

It's called being nice
>>
>>91148088
That was infuriating. I can't believe this guy can write entertaining stories like SFoSM or The Fix and still be such a sensitive and irl
>>
>>91148176
More accurately, it's called not talking shit because you don't know who you'll be working for/with in the future. Don't shit where you eat.
>>
>>91144855
>and not because "they" say being nice makes you mature.

But nobody said that.

Really activates my almonds.

jesus fuck, Liefield is a stupid mother fucker. Im surprised he has any fans
>>
>>91148701
He literally never grew up. He was a "fake it till you make it" type of guy that made it WHILE he was faking it so he never had to improve, either as a team member or as an artist.

tell me whose presidential campaign marvel funded again?
>>
>>91148974
I have no idea what you're trying to say specifically.

Yes, Perlmutter donated to Trump's campaign. Is that supposed to.........do what exactly to my argument? I get the sense from your post that it was supposed to be some kind of rhetorical question intended as a rebuttal, but I have no idea what you're actually saying....

I said something positive about Dads, so I must have voted for trump, therefore YOU TOTALLY BLEW MY MIND WTF I LOVE MARVEL NOW!!!

Or....are you saying that Marvel is awful on twitter because they funded Trump and therefore they're twitter assholes together? I honestly have no idea what your post was supposed to make me realize.
>>
>>91148974
>Marvel funded Trump's campaign

Ike Perlmutter donated to Trump personally, the company didn't, in fact a lot of the writers were upset about it

Marguerite Bennett's upgrade since she switched to DC is genuinely amazing

Too bad her writing is shit though
>>
>>91150404
If only Bennett were a better writer because she'd be waifuable.

It's just a catchy name given to the trend of killing off women for male character development, dumbass.

I still can't get over how rebirth turned Humphries into a well adjusted man.
>>
>>91150521
>>91150492
I think her writing on Batwoman so far has definitely showed improvement (or maybe it's Tynion)
>>
>>91140510
what the fuck was humphries even doing there? he was never that big at marvel
>>
>>91138440
It's funny to see this after recently seeing Slott's tweet about giving readers what they need instead of what they want. Puts things in perspective.
>>
>>91138440

Honestly I can't imagine how embarrassed he must feel that console wars autism has gotten so bad that he felt the need to publicly address it.
>>
>>91138440
He can say that because everyone knows Secret Empire is going to bomb. Apparently per-orders are bad.

You didn't see DC people praising Secret Wars, they knew it was crushing them.
>>
>>91139786
FUck if I know how DC retains talent. The best Marvel writers leave TV writing or for Image and creator owned work after a five years.

Are DC people better paid/given royalties? Or are they just not as attractive to Image?
>>
>>91139872
Waid is banned from the DC offices

gonna need a source on that senpai

He has a point. Look at how the Ultimate Universe fared after giving fans the dynamic world they wanted.

Graeme McMillan, on his comics podcast. He writes about comics for various mainstream websites.
>>
>>91151892
So Snyder is pushing Duke and Harper because that's what we want?
Huhh

Of course he's a gentleman, he's Big Papa Pump. His OC is one of the most energetic man in the universe.
>>
>>91152651
I like Graeme but he's deep in the weeds of letting his own thoughts about the storyline being inappropriate blind him.
>>
>>91152352
>Are DC people better paid/given royalties?
Yes. Starlin gains more money with KGBeast than he gains with every character he created at Marvel added up.

>Or are they just not as attractive to Image?
Image doesn't contract artists.

Their way is "bring your comic and we will publish it and retain 10% of the profits".
>>
>>91152651
OTOH I've seen many tweets how the retailers who read the 0 issue liked it very much and ordered more

Even if he's a giant bleeding vagina as a man, he has the decency to keep the cheap social comentary out of his book.
>>
>>91144202
I think Butcher would also be put off by the amount of outside influences. Pretty much anyone can mess with your story.
>>
>>91151213
It's a remarkable thing. He even writes well.
>>
>>91152841
>Starlin gains more money with KGBeast than he gains with every character he created at Marvel added up.

Len Wein has gotten more royalties for Luscious Fox than he has Wolverine.

I remember Chuck Dixon saying he bought a house with the royalties he received for the use of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, but that's a movie so probably different.

wait, Tom Strong was published by DC???
wtf
I had no idea
it's so fucking fun
>>
>>91158811
By a technicality yes. It was published by America's Best Comics, which was an imprint of Wildstorm, which was bought by DC.

>>91159148
Also the most recent Tom Strong miniseries got published under the Vertigo banner.

>>

>>
>>91152660
Thats mildly annoying at worst. Snyder is nowhere near half as arrogant to tell audiences that they need his ocs. He pushes them because he likes them. And the push is nowhere near as blatant as Miles' or Moongirl's
>>
>>91150492
>>91151231

Tynion may not be the best bat writer but he's definitely there to keep her in check. I'm still amazed they introduced a transgender character and the only hint to it was a brief reference to their "deadname".
>>
>>91161479
Paul Levitz took great steps to make sure creators were well-compensated, Marvel's never had a guy like that. Mark Waid wrote an article about it.
