Their relationship was fine. They had chemistry, they had plenty of moments where they showed love and care for each other. They were just tsundere, which makes sense considering kids don't like to show affection too much, especially not to family members their age (if you have a sister you can easily relate).

The problem was that they acted way older than they should be (Gwen especially, but even Ben acted like a typical 13 or 14 year old boy). The reboot has them act their age but at the cost of the charm of the relationship.

Look at her there- she's clearly a Vreedle in color scheme and design, but she's also has a distinct outline and character feel. Just by existing she's a ton of world building.

I'm not sure if OS beats OV for me. Sure, they both had the proper amount of action vs comedy, properly clothed the aliens, and sure the designs of both series had good variety, but I have a nitpick with OS. It felt like, at least for me, that the alien design was TOO varied, especially between generic goons and Bens forms. You can take any two random characters or models from OV, and you can tell they're from the same series because of DJW's very distinctive style. It isn't always so easy in OS.

OV also has all the good material to pull from from UAF, and could leave out everything shitty. Hell, Water Hazard was such a good archetype they tossed him in the reboot.

Also the fact that Rook plays off Ben way better than Gwen or Gwen and Kevin ever did. The street smart disobedient experienced cop + the book smart newbie cop is a character dynamic that works well in almost any situation. And the fact that Rook also plays well off Gwen and Kevin in different ways lets them still be in the show without creating the dull dynamic the three had in UAF. Hell, OTTO-motives (Kevin and Rook at that car show) is one of my favorite episodes because of how well the two play off eachother in an entirely different way from Rook and Ben. Argit was even a great fifth character in Omniverse- fucking Argit!

IMO the finale itself was fine, but the episodes leading up to it felt rushed or unimportant, like the Multiverse arc felt more developed than the finale (not to mention they should has really made more alternate Bens, the ones that they made were great though), those romance episodes with Kai also killed the mood, if they wanted to make that pairing canon so bad they should had spend way more time and effort making them compelling rather than bumrushing it at the end. And the one that felt like the biggest waste to me was Vilgax using Malware as a weapon, that shit should had been amazing but it end up being just ok.

Another thing I love about OV. A 'retcon' that actually makes two conflicting factors agree and play nice so that a larger portion of the entire product is fully canon. Same reason why I love how the penseive was handled in the 8th Harry Potter movie- it's a floating silver disc (6th movie) that slots into the large stone dais (4th movie), making the previous instances mesh and no excuses of change in art direction for the discrepancy.

Because it's proof that they're willing to restart this franchise into the ground, into bedrock, into the earth's core, back to the surface, then somewhere in space with UA. The original was good with some decent and lackluster stuff here and there, UA killed it because the ideas were there but the execution was so awful that it made us gag. Omniverse brought it back but by then UA burnt us out and it hard to even look at the redesign, the nail in the coffin was latest one. You don't even have to watch it to know that this shit will keep coming back no matter what happens to it. It's the actual cartoon equivalent of a cockroach. It'll keep crawling under the couch and resurface to remind you it's there, then it goes right back under the couch and repeats the process without you even realizing it popped up again.
