They'e also still making an animated movie with Miles. I mean why don't they make an animated universe. I would watch an R rated animated venom movie.

It's a Black Cat Silver Saber team up movie but even that is difficult. They'll probably try to introduce them in Venom movie which makes me think it'll be Agent Venom

Black Cat/Silver Sable can work without Spiderman technically

Venom is literally impossible to work without Spider-Man unless they depict it in near future where its hinted that it has broken from the bond with Spiderman and attached to a new host whether Eddie or Flash

If they are gonna make a Symbiote movie that hasnt bonded to Spider-man and bonded to someone else directly then it cant be called Venom movie

I wouldnt be surprised if they make it Carnage stand alone movie and call it Venom

To be fair they would have lost it at all if they hadnt released SM4 by the then deadline. An extension with rebooting the franchise was their best bet to keep the rights

Merchandising wasnt the major chunk of money anyway. Also what good is keeping the merchandising rights if you are unable to retain the franchise
>>
>>91113073
>depends on what they consider a success, sony thought asm2 failed when it made more than ant-man, dr strange and winter soldier.

Because:

Winter Soldier $170 million budget
Doctor Strange: $165 million budget
Ant-Man: $130 million budget
ASM2: $200-293 million budget

Also don't forget that international box office (which was the bulk of the reported number for ASM2) is not exactly what the studio receives. Studios get more back from domestic than international, even if they are trying to tailor more toward international. If you compare Spider-Man 2 with ASM2 then you'll notice that the total reported box office is a difference of just 74 million. But if you compare domestic box office, ASM2 only got $202.9 million domestic while Spider-Man 2 got $373.5 million domestic.

But this scene only works in comics, because actual teeth don't light up like a Scooby-Doo episode. This wouldn't even work in comics if it was done by an artist with a more realistic style, only one with heavy lines and a focus on shadow.

This is a problem with cape movies I thought we all realized with Watchmen. Direct adaptions don't work because the page and the screen are different mediums that do different things great. That scene doesn't need to be in a tentpole blockbuster to be legitimized, it's awesome, it works great, it's uniquely comic book.

Could he not team up with any of these characters? Did they not have Prowler or Rocket Racer or Solo or Cardiac or the Slingers or any of the thousands of other Spiders?
>>
here is what we might expect from the BLACK CAT/SILVER SABLE movie based on the Sony emails. These were the original plans for these characters and film

>ASM: Black Cat (second half 2018) ā€“ Felicia Hardy gets properly introduced. We see her get her ā€œluck powersā€ from Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Eventually she has an encounter with Spidey and it ends with an understanding that she is not the bad person she appears to be.

>For the role of Felicia Hardy, their choices included Ruth Wilson, Emily Blunt (who Goddard favored), Kerri Russell, Rose Byrne, Emilia Clarke, Elizabeth Olsen

>A Spider-Man spin-off staring a female superhero, or an all-female superhero team. Sony code-named this proposed superheroine Spider-Man spin-off project ā€œGlass Ceiling,ā€ which included a packet containing bios, images, and comics of possible characters to consider. This included: Silver Sable, Black Cat, Stunner, among others - including a version of Spider-Gwen

>So who was Sony considering to play the lead? Well, not only was Sony considering Rose Byrne as a possible choice for playing Black Cat in The Sinister Six, she was their top choice to play Silver Sable; so much so that Joy and Oā€™Connor were ā€œobsessed with herā€ for the part.

This.

Sony Picture executives didn't WANT to work with Marvel. The deal only happened because Sony Japan forced them to.

They are doing this, now of all times, because Sony Pictures was insulted and felt that they are not wrong, that they can definitely make a cinematic universe without Marvel. They are doing this out of spite and a missguided sense of their own sense of competence.

From the leaks we can tell that Sony Pictures are a bunch of idiots who think they know what they are doing. They are doing this to try and prove they are not idiots.

But of course, they clearly ARE idiots.

We can guesstimate most of the money going into studio's pocket if ou go by the half of Box office collections thumbrule. If you want an even more accurate method as per industry standards of knowing how the studios got then you can calculate 95% of opening weekend collections , then sliding scale 80 % for the first week colections, 70% of second week .....upto 50% 4th week and after.

If you have any sources of merchandising of that film title making more that the above calculations, then I would like to see it unless you are pulling merchandizing figures from your ass

It's very divided, but essentially this yes. Lots of people at sony are happy with working with marvel and see it as a great potential and a good thing for the spider-man franchise.

Avi Arad....is not one of those people. He and some others felt he should have been kept on as producer of Spider-man homecoming. Avi was not, he feels cucked, and he's not a /tv/ poster so he's not down with that. So, he wants to make venom, he's always wanted to make a venom movie. Even after venom fucking died in spider-man 3 he still wanted to make a venom movie. The guy has been clinging to this idea for over 10 years. I doubt it will be any good. Just look at john peters and the way he clung to ideas about superman for over 10 years. It's going to be ass. He's not going to feel any better about himself. Producers over 60 years old are ignorant as fuck to what people want in movies and why the MCU works, or why deadpool worked and so on.

I bet Ike convinced Avi to do this to fuck with Feige, fuck Ike, Fuck Avi, wish these guys would choke on a bagel already.

True, howvever Hollywood considers hbuge ox office collections from China as a savior to their losses so clearly they are able to salvage a good amount of money for the profits from foreign box office. But there is no real way of figuring out how and how much the studios are able to take back

Which is why going by half teh box office collections thumbrule is a decent way to guesstimate

>Also what good is keeping the merchandising rights if you are unable to retain the franchise

From one of the Sony e-mails that got leaked:

>Are you aware that Men In Black 3 may gross $600M at the box office, and yet will lose money for SPE? Shouldn't we question that strategy? Why are some studios making Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Twilight - and we are considering movies like Moneyball, Steve Jobs story, Captain Phillips Story, Evel Knievel story, etc. Are you aware that SPE only has 1 franchise - Spiderman. Yet, it took 5 years to generate a sequel? Spidey 3 was released in summer 2007, #4 in 2012. Don't harry potters come out over 2-3 years? Are you aware that SPE has only 1 franchise - Spidey? Yet we waited 5 years after Spidey 3 (2007) to release #4? Have you read the SEC annual report? Disney will make $300M on Spidey merchandise this year alone. We won't!

Why else do you think Ike tried to cut off X-Men merchandise a few years ago?

They were big time partners, co-workers what have you. Both Ike and Avi got pushed out around the same time. They're not gone though. Just bitter old men who won't leave. You don't get to those positions without having a major ego, hence they cling to those positions.
>>
>>91114613
>Why else do you think Ike tried to cut off X-Men merchandise a few years ago?

Marvel fully owned X men merchandise rights, Fox didnt get a penny from it. According o your argument Marvel should have tried to market as much merchandise as they can because by default its more money than the movies
>>
>>91114625
>Implying the retards at Sony thought of this. They saw they had the rights to these characters from the Spider-Man brand and said ''Make a movie NAO, we need US dolla''
They could have at least tried to link it with the MCU, if they only wanted to make money.

To intentionally ,make it non-MCU, is clearly an act of rebellion. As I said, they were forced into the Marvel deal by the Japanese bosses. They are still mad and acted accordingly.

Kevin Feige in an e-mail:

>I think that is very risky thing to do with a movie audience following. Okay for comic books but I wouldnā€™t even do it with cartoon animation.

>Had I known, I would never have approved that strategy. Avi is totally nuts. More confirmation to me that he never knew what he was doing.

Avi Arad corrects a journalist that credited Feige with being "the man who saved Marvel"

>Good morning Devin. As usual you manage to disappoint me with your false statements. I am sure you were told by Marvel that I resigned over the self-financing strategy. It is about time for a reporter like you to do your homework and check the facts. It will sound arrogant to you, but I single handedly put together the Marvel slate. Read it carefully and you will notice the natural progression of the characterā€™s design to get to where we are today.

>You should reach out to Merill Lynch and Ambac Insurance and to our international partners that came on board based on my track record. Our financial partners counted on my reputation. I had to work very hard to convert the doubters. They trusted me and without Iron Man this article would have not been written. Iron Man was not even in the original slate. I knew that we needed it so I set out to get it back from Newline and the rest is history.
>>
Cease and fucking desist Sony
>>
>>91114803
>Our financing would have never happened without me reaching out to Brad Grey to make a distribution deal that will give you a corporate guarantee. Other people in Marvel worked for many months with Universal and could not reach a deal. I got tired of waiting and went to Brad. The deal was done in days, successful for both companies. The big presentation to financial institutions and insurance companies took place on the Paramount lot. I was the presenter and it worked. Does this sound to you like someone who disagreed with the strategy to make our own movies?

>I have forgiven Kevin for following orders and taking the credit, but he had no choice. Shame on you for kowtowing to your business gods. I have given up on journalistic integrity. You called me to talk about Kevin and I gave you the most true and glowing account on someone that I love and respect. Share your notes otherwise you just wasted my time. I will share this letter with other papers and your management to demonstrate the unprofessional self-serving work this reporter demonstrated.

I feel the emails exposing all their dirty laundry had more to do with Spidey being in MCU just for the simple reason of doing damage control than their bosses.

This is fucking Spider-man, the most popular superhero among kids in the world, Marvel made more profit of the merchandise than Sony did out of the entire ASM franchise

>I feel the emails exposing all their dirty laundry had more to do with Spidey being in MCU just for the simple reason of doing damage control than their bosses.
From what the media reported, Sony Japan was angry that the original deal for Spiderman was rejected by Sony Pictures. And the reason they were angry, was that they only know about the failed deal by reading the Sony leaks themselves.

Thus Sony Japan forced Sony Pictures to make a deal with Marvel. And this meant Sony Pictures was never happy about it.

You know if Sony is so desperate to kickstart their own Spidey universe, why not do something completely different and just go with a entire setting change with all those alt universe Spidey's, they could have been making a 2099 universe and it would have been fresh and different enough for people to welcome it while at the same time not intervering with the MCU movie

>Spider-Man 2099 was touted to be their ''Captain America-type franchise'', a period piece set in a futuristic New York City of 2099. Miguel O'Hara would've been Spider-Man instead of Peter Parker just like in the comics and would face off against the evil corporation Alchemax

>The end of the first film would've involved the villain(s?) being defeated at Alchemax and Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 being sent back to present day NYC. Which would set up the next film (set for 2019) for a all-star team up between the Amazing Spider-Man (in the email being dubbed as 616-Spidey) and Spider-Man 2099 against the villain Carnage in a ''payoff level event''

Too late. Sony leaks revealed they were developing SpiderGwen before Marvel was.

>Thatā€™s rightā€”not only was this going to be a Silver Sable movie, this was technically going to be a Spider-Woman movie, as well.

>A Spider-Woman who, to quote from Lisa Joyā€™s idea: ā€œslipped through portal opened by the villain,ā€ from a parallel universe in which there was ā€œmaybe no spiderman, no peter and gwen romance in her reality.ā€ And Iā€™m sure youā€™ve already guessed who Sony was thinking about for who this Spider-Woman could beā€¦Gwen Stacy!

>As Iā€™m sure some of you having read that Bleeding Cool article from last week know, the folks at Sony were already thinking about coming up with their own version of ā€œSpider-Gwenā€ right around the same time as when Dan Slott, Jason Lautor, and Robbi Rodriguez were planning on having her appear in ā€œSpider-Verse.ā€ Apparently, Lisa Joy came up with this idea after watching the premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2

But they also considered Gwen-Carnage

>We had a good giggle looking at the sexy red Gwen/Carnage images on line. Definitely a thought to consider for the futureā€¦ could be really cool/sexy/intense to see her and Spidey fight. Or her and MJā€¦

It might be less to do with that, and more to do with the realization that if Sony did it first, then Marvel would have less hold on the character. By publishing Spider-Gwen first they set the audience up to assume Spider-Gwen is a certain way.
>>
>>91116084

The actual email reads:

Pretty much the people actually in charge of the deal dropped the ball. Marvel wanted one, lots of people at sony wanted one. The people actively in charge at the time at sony wanted insane amounts of money and control. Marvel passed. Sony wanted disney money out of marvel, when marvels budget still largely comes from their own work. Once a deal was made did disney step in and offer more budget to civil war to make it an even bigger project.

Season 4 isn't so bad, it is kind of the rehash season.

Still wish they worked out the x-men in season 5. Forgotten warriors got an extra episode because they had to drop the x-men episode of secret wars. Would have made secret wars pretty fucking cool to have mr.sinister and the x-men up there.

Not him, but WSJ confirmed shortly after the deal that Marvel gets no money from BAKA and Sony gets no money from CW

Marvel are producing this with Sony's money (so Sony keeps the profits), they'll be making their money from merchandise instead
