Well, that can be blamed on the fact that, like "The Simpsons", the character designs on MacFarlane shows were meant to be cartoonish exaggerations of human bodies. While you could technically sexualise characters like Marge or Lois or Francine, seeing them drawn naked - even if it were on model - would be like seeing shitty /34/ of them. The only reason Marge's Playboy spread worked as good as it did is because they drew her with slightly-more-human proportions than normal.

The only way /34/ for shows like "American Dad" looks good is if it goes off-model. I know we're talking about waifus and shit, but goddamn, I really love this show. I love how nothing background characters with less than 10 seconds of screentime get traits that make them interesting and memorable (The guy who had a random collection of dolphin paraphernalia, Mindquad, shit like that), and how every member of the cast has a dynamic with every other character.

Stan x Steve... The list goes on.

These characters are actually interesting and funny, and are consistent with how they react to things (For the most part). And it's just damn funny besides. FG is full of bile and hate and awfulness, while AD actually has a spirit behind it, and the characters don't all seem like depressed assholes.

Chris is sometimes incredibly stupid and immature, and then randomly sarcastic and disrespectful. And it just keeps going on, and on, and on.

In Francine's case, you can almost always expect her to play the doting, overly-attached mother, and Steve to be relatively optimistic and odd. Stan kinda does his own thing a lot of the time, but he's typically hard on Steve, playful/teasing with Francine, and annoyed with Haley/Roger/Klaus.

That's what makes characters fun, when you can anticipate how they'd react to certain situations, and then see them actually go through with it. In FG, the characters change to suit whatever terrible "joke" the writers are trying to push from scene to scene, and sometimes line to line. There's no consistency, and it makes them very unsympathetic.

In the case of your first clip, she was going through a mini-crisis, and was sick of all the complaining. I've had moments where I wanted to punch my own family in the face, too.

That second clip was great, and even then, you can see how relatively consistent Francine is. She's kind of adorable.

I remember my favorite scene in the series, where the Smiths are hiding from an attacking Santa Claus. Roger has Haley and Francine sucking on the edges of candy canes to make spears, and Haley's able to do it much faster. Roger tells Francine to give hers to Haley, and Francine's all "Shut up, I can do it..."

I loved that little bit of sexual rivalry between her and her daughter, it was a nice little moment.
