I'm baffled by this, I am legitimately scratching my head over every single thing in this clip, from the generic "future kid" aesthetic the kid has to the catchphrase "Meganize me!" and "It's mega time!" not to mention the small unnecessary sidekick that will most likely serve as a comedic sidekick. From what I've seen, it's akin to something like Triforce Heroes. It's suitable as a filler game between big releases, but the issue is that Metroid doesn't have any big releases to look forward to so it just pissed people off. The game is actually fine from what I hear, it's just not the game any big Metroid fan wanted or was waiting for, and as such it came across more insulting to them than anything.

No, but we know what MoA's track record is, we know that Capcom and MoA have done very little to promote this series, and we know what past adaptations of Mega Man look like. What little we do know has its share of flags: Rock attending school, being given a new name, and an entirely pointless sidekick, as well as a visual design that feels like a bad boxart Mega Man.

There were only ever two. Legends was its own thing at one point, but was later re-absorbed into the main series. Everything after EXE has been set in two distinct timelines: Classic - X - Zero - ZX- Legends and EXE - Star Force.

And while it's true that each new spinoff was met with skepticism, they were never trying to be the original series, only inspired by them.
MM2017 is presenting itself as an adaptation of Mega Man classic. It will be scrutinized for that. It will get the worst of it, because we've already had two stellar adaptations (Flynn's Archie run, and Ariga's Megamix manga) and the bar is set high.
