Morrison writes like that, so that part is real. You can read his work thinking on the themes he's always touching and you'll soon see that characters and settings are secondary to these core principles he explores: the conceptual universe being something that feeds on itself and expands constantly and exponentially the more people put content in it.

Think of the hypercrisis as a tool, a way of reading through the many comics of DC. Understanding how this tool works means being able to reconcile the many soft/hard reboots that the DCU has had, as it becomes apparent they're still within a narrative.
