The perma-death thing was what fucked it over.

With a 100% guarantee of eternal death, it meant that the Ultimatum was the absolute worst thing to happen to the Ultimate Universe, with many characters killed off, it shrunk the cast so much that there wasn't that many people worth a damn.

To this day, I still get frustrated over thinking about what happened in ultimatum. Marvel had actually managed to REVITALIZE the company with the Ultimate universe. They were able to essentially reboot the entire damn 616 universe without making an actual fucking reboot. It was great and the potential crossovers could've been legendary. They could've had the Ultimate Avengers teaming up with the 616 Avengers to take down some universal threat. They could've had Ultimate Spiderman and 616 Spiderman teaming up together, they could've just done so much more. They could've done Civil War right, they could've done justice to old stories with flaws.

But nope. None of that happens due to Ultimatum. That shit was just a travesty man. Jeph Loeb should've never been allowed to touch anything to do with the Ultimate universe anyway.
