Downfall of Homestuck:

1) Hussie allowing Act 6 to spiral into such a massive and involved thing (more than half the comic), instead of the capstone/epilogue to Acts 1-5 it was supposed to be.

2) Multiple year-long hiatuses with only a couple months of active updating between them.

3) Ghost-writers taking over somewhere around Act 6.4, who only understood the post-hivebent fandom (shipping and character-adoration autism) and nothing of the 'core' of MSPA which was 'weird puzzle/game/plot shit' and JOKES.

A lot of this probably has its roots in milking for merch money, and then a series of disasters both in Hussies personal life and in Hiveswap development which caused the hiatuses. I think by the time of the actual end they absolutely were just sitting on content waiting for merch sales and/or webtraffic to slow before uploading it.

Homestuck Act 1-4 is the last true MSPA style MSPA. The last remnant of that 04 era Newgrounds/SomethingAwful/PennyArcade/NeilCicigera classic internet era.

The formal introduction of the trolls both parodies this style with Hivebent, before turning into a lampoon of 08-11 Deviantart/gaming autism culture.

That's the last successful parody Hussie pulls off. Early Act 6 is a retread of early Homestuck, followed by the absolute disgrace that is A6I3, which was Hussie's failed attempt to parody 2012 era Twitter/Tumblr/4chan culture. All remaining references are extremely forced (snapchat, kickstarter jokes, shitty claymation vines, etc.) and ultimately add nothing to the plot.

Truth is Hussie didn't die. He probably still has it in him to write another PS. He just lost his connection to modern internet culture, and that bothers him. He doesn't think he can improve his work if he can't connect with the modern kids.

I'm still mad about how Lord English was handled. Here we have an almost-invincible, ageless monstrosity comprised of the souls of several-and-a-half people wreaking havoc in what is basically Heaven and the Void between. Going about hunting down Eldritch Abominations (whatever happened with the Horrorterrors anyway?) and creating cracks in reality itself.

Seems like an awesome fucking villain, but Hussie made him a God damn non-character, especially compared to Caliborn, who barely appeared in the entire comic and no one seemed to be really afraid of. Then he went down with barely and fighting involved.

What a God damn waste.
