Titan was a step in the direction of SJ5. It's not a good show but it definitely separated itself from other cartoons at the time and opened up some new facets. But as a show it's pretty boring. The first two episodes of SJ5 (either one by itself or both) are more exciting than anything in SBT, or Motorcity, or Megas XLR.

Assuming that you love the ambiance of Samurai Jack, with its sci-fi fantasy elements, and its emphasis on sound/setting in addition to characters, I recommend Serial Experiments Lain

The story is somewhat quirky, but it has

Finally getting to experience it again, the hard weekly schedule is so god damn nice. The binge schedule of Netflix allows for no suspense and makes discussing series a shit-show. The daily release schedule of bombs or the way they did OtGW catches you off-guard and when you blink it's over. The helter-skelter "release as its done" schedule and other irregular hiatus-based schedules is frustrating to no end. After giving it a couple years to settle I can safely say, no it's not just what I'm used to, the consistent weekly release schedule until a season is over is actually just plain better.

It's so interesting and weird and surreal. It's basically a collection of shit Genndy thought was really cool. He spliced it together in a bunch of episodic homages to films and tv shows he liked. And it kinda works.

It's very apparent from episode 1 that the no-blood limitation really took a toll on his artistic freedom though. Episode 2 is Jack being bathed in robot oil in slow-mo shots with all these fancy-ass war sequences filled to the brim with payoff.

I bet even Jack having red scratches had CN execs on the edge.
