The episode guide went up early? Nice
>"everything leading up to this moment has been rehearsal"
>"the real performance is about to begin"
>"Governor, take off your pants if you please"
What did he mean by this?
I love this model

>>90842086
It should have been 22 minutes of Maul walking through the desert, talking to himself, losing the last bits of his mind, seeing mirages of things from his past, then finally seeing Kenobi but dying from thirst before he even reaches him, not knowing if it was just another mirage.
Film it as one, long, drawn out, painful cut so that we may suffer as Maul did.
I lived the episode but I didn't see the need for Watto to show up. What a completely pointless cameo.
Make Mandalore Great Again
>>90842676
>not getting the implication that he and Maul were former lovers
I see /swco/ are wearing their heterogoggles today.
>>90842775
We're gonna win, we're gonna win big, you're gonna get tired of winning!
>>90842852
No, Maul hit him with his little stupid flying scooter thing back in TPM. He owed him what you call a life debt.
I personally thought the episode was phenomenal, and the fight was absolutely perfect.
Rebels Recon showed just how much thought went into every single frame of that encounter, and it shows.
I mean;Maul trying to use the same attack on Kenobi, as he did on Qui-Gon, after the tense shifting of stances? Holy fuck. Half of the fight was the mind games at the beginning.
Also, in terms of 2edgy4u violence, the slash through Maul's heart is actually one of the more brutal body horror shots we have seen in this entire franchise. Simple but very, VERY effective. I actually flinched when it happened.
I feel like people set themselves up for disappointment thinking they were going to get a huge fight ala' Vader/Ahsoka, and I wont argue for 20 posts about that, I can understand why people both wanted and expected that.
But I think what we got was absolutely perfect.
Goodnight sweet Sith.
>>90841901
The quick battle was fine (though I think there should have been a little more to it) and the tragic tone of Maul's death was good, literally everything else about the episode was shit.
Obi's little talk with Ezra was retarded. If he never mentions Obi to the crew it's all gonna be extra retarded, are they supposed to believe Ezra killed Maul?
>>90842956
>actually flinched when it happened.
Okay, calm down.
>>90843021
I get overly tense when I am watching something I am invested in I guess...
>>90842965

>>90842965
>are they supposed to believe Ezra killed Maul?
If I was a little bitch of an up and coming Jedi that hadn't done anything other than terrorist and pirate stuff I'd let my friends believe I killed a former Sith Lord too.
>>90842956
>one of the more brutal body horror shots we have seen in this entire franchise
It didn't even look like anything had happened, it just looked like the sabre had been sliced.
It was only apparent what had happened when he started smoking afterwards.
It was the opposite of 2edgy, it was tame to the point of being a little confusing.
>>90843170
>there are "people" who disliked this scene

My only issue is the guy who pointed out the dummy

wut?
I didn't watch RO in theatres because literal autism means the loud audio of theatres freaks me the fuck out.
I'm watching from the mega link right now and it's fucking AWESOME. Krennic just had Lyra executed.
>>90843275
Sorry. Also I'm pretty sure the Vader mask has eye holes to help the actor see. They're noticeable when he slices the dummy in half.
>>90843381
I won't delet the truth
>>90843277
Yes, quite a few people were confused by the shot. It seemed like Maul had simply fallen over on his own accord, and apparently the smoke effect was too subtle for some to even notice it
>>90843317When he lifts the guy to the ceiling, look at his hand. It's so obviously a dummy hand
>>90843345
Have you read catalyst? It'll greatly improve it
>>90843287
First time I saw rogue one I was super impressed but I think that's cause I avoided leaks and was expecting absolute shit so when it was decent I was shocked. After the second viewing I liked it less but still find the majority of criticisms of the movie to be retarded.
Basically all the stuff around Saw is kinda fucked but other than that I think it's a good film.
>>90843345
Sorry about your autism bro. This >>90843170 scene is intense watching it in a theater

>>90843317
Look at the obvious dummy hand of the guy Vader pushes to the ceiling.
>>90843500
>>90843447
meh, this has no impact on the scene for me
>>90843277
I've watched the fight a few times and I still don't see any clear indication of Maul being struck.
Obi Wan swings down and there's a flash of sparks and we see Maul drop the two sabre halves to his sides.
Like, I'm sure that if you should me the 3d models in the animation program that there would be connection between the sabre and Maul's chest, but the way it's presented in the episode, I don't think it's clear at all during the action.
It's only once he actually goes down that it's clear what's actually happening in that scene.
>>90843485
When it was near the end, everything started to fall into place and everything became clear at where they where too. That scene alone was the perfect connection to A New Hope and gave the title way more meaning. I fucking loved it.
>>90843447
Yes I have. Catalyst was amazing.
>>90843485
I can imagine. Looks like a fucking slasher movie.

The fight being a Kurosawa reference isn't really addressing the issues when it's a pretty poorly implemented Kurosawa reference.
And as much as I personally don't think the fight works, even though a lot of people are happy with it and think it was a good send of, the biggest problem was spending so much of the episode on Ezra when he doesn't actually contribute anything to the main event.
Like, for all their talk of minimalism and stripping away everything to the bare essence of the story that needed to be told and yadda yadda, they spent most of the time showing Ezra and Chopper fucking around with sand for no reason.

Yeah, spending a majority of the episode on Ezra was a bad idea. I'd prefer it if the episode had just been Maul without Ezra, but I also get that they felt the need to include him because he's connected to Maul. I still would've liked to see less of him, especially since most of his time is spending wandering and doing nothing.

> see preview
> get slightly hyped
> figure it's going to be a whole side episode dedicated to Maul and Kenobi to close the plot thread
> episode starts with Maul having to lure out Kenobi by attracting Ezra for no real reason
> Ezra magically wants to go to Tatooine because holocrons
> all on a hunch that some Jedi that he's never met and is surely dead is still out there on this specific planet
> 15 minutes of Ezra and Chopper bullshitting into and through the Jundland Wastes
> meets Kenobi
> someone who no one should know is alive
> actual Maul vs Kenobi scene is rushed and lasts but a split moment
> didn't even realize Maul got fatally wounded because of censorship
> Maul's last words are rushed dialogue to make room for Ezra having a lesson-of-the-week for the children viewers as if this was Season 1
> major plot holes around "is Ezra just not going to tell people that Kenobi is alive" and potentially how Anakin is still supposed to be the chosen one despite turning Sith
As someone who can usually hand-wave problems in shows and ignore them (but still acknowledge them), this episode ended up being a huge let-down. Every time Ezra just so happened to cross paths with a major franchise character, I just let it go, but now that he's gone out of his way to find Obi-Wan just places him into self-insert OC character. In hindsight, I should have seen it with the whole "MY CHARACTER CAN BE BOTH LIGHT AND DARK SIDE AND IS TRAINED TO BE DARTH MAUL'S APPRENTICE AND ALSO HIT ON PRINCESS LEIA AND SAVED [insert character] THAT ONE TIME". Fuck.
>>90844474

Yeah it was fucking garbage. The ending was fine but the buildup was literally the worst way they could have done it
>the Rebels Recon team including Chopper give Maul an Eastern Orthodox funeral
what did they mean by this
>>90844035
That's really the problem, I'm sure the models make contact but the way it's framed makes it (needlessly) ambiguous.
If Maul had just carried on fighting with two single blades after that attack, I wouldn't have seen anything wrong.
>>90844483
yes but Soarin' Ted's redemption arc would involve holding off the death star so mahn mahthma could repeal sheevcare

does anyone have an HD webm of the Hammerhead ramming the ISD?
>All the hemming and hawing over Maul’s power and influence, through The Phantom Menace, a large number of The Clone Wars episodes, and a good chunk of this season, is literally cut down in mere moments. It’s a literal and figurative cosmic joke. Maul was a nobody, pursuing nothing, and had no chance at victory, both because Kenobi was a wiser, better fighter, but also because we all know Maul had no real impact on the Star Wars Story(tm). In the end, what was really the point of Maul? There’s an intergalactic rebellion going on, and we’re spending all this time on this one dude’s petty revenge-fest? The cold opening of “Twin Suns” was really the key. Maul’s faux-Shakespearean speech, all bombast and melodrama, took place in the middle of a desert wasteland, with no one around to hear–or care. So of course he called for the only person in the galaxy who would care.
Also an insight into Ezra's role in the episode for those thinking he had no reason to be there
Hint: he had no reason to be there. That was the point of his being the focus for most of it, to find out that he had no place there. Because in the end, this was at best a sidestory. Ezra did get entangled with Maul, but it was not for him to pursue as he did.
>>90844487
Obi-Wan knowing Ezra's name was nonsense and clearly a tactic they had to employ to rush the plot due to not getting an hour long episode for it. Pretty hard to ignore that bullshit. I can believe him sensing Maul's presence the minute he set foot on the planet because it's a person he's very familiar with at that point, but Ezra is a nobody that Obi-Wan would never have even heard of.
>>90844825

>major plot holes around "is Ezra just not going to tell people that Kenobi is alive"
Obi-Wan already told him why that wouldn't make anything better.
>and potentially how Anakin is still supposed to be the chosen one despite turning Sith
He is. He was meant to turn to the Dark Side to destroy the Sith from the inside. Just as they always had done to themselves. That said, Obi-Wan was referring to Luke, because in his belief, Anakin had failed in his duty and do it had by Obi-Wan and Yoda's opinion passed on to Luke and Leia.
Do you people seriously just consume entertainment for what only you want?
>>90841901
Okay so now they're saying Luke was actually the chosen one?

Droids can speak. People can understand droids. Chopper was powered back by the time Ezra woke up to Ben at the campsite. Put two and two together.
>>90845233
No, Obi-Wan just wants to believe it. Anakin is still the chosen one, Luke is just the final catalyst for him to realize that destiny.
>>90845233
I HAVE BEEN WAITING ALL FUCKING DAY FOR SOMEONE TO BRING THIS UP
THIS WAS THE BIG REVEAL OF THE EPISODE, THE THING THAT THEY WANT YOU TO TAKE AWAY AND THINK ABOUT, THE THING THAT IS GOING TO AFFECT THE SEQUEL TRILOGY, AND ALL YOU DUMB MOTHERFUCKERS ARE ARGUING ABOUT EZRA AND IF THE FIGHT WAS TOO SHORT.
THANK YOU ANON
YES, LUKE IS THE MOTHERFUCKING CHOSEN ONE
>>90845268
No one called him that in this episode
>>90845233
No. Anakin is still the chosen one, but Obi-Wan lost faith in him. His and Yoda's plan basically relied on the idea that Luke (and/or Leia) is the actual chosen one. They couldn't think of a scenario in which Anakin would still destroy the Sith, so they threw all their hope into Luke being the one to do it. Anakin ends up doing it, though Luke played a vital role in it.

>>90845387
I could see them doing a spinoff movie of him on Tatooine. Ewan is getting older so would still work quite well in the role. It could be like half Castaway/The Martian with him just trying to survive and stay sane in his isolation and then becomes a Western when he gets roped into protecting farmers or a town from Jabba's thugs or something. Or they could take some liberties and even have him temporarily get dragged off Tatooine for some kind of mission.
>>90845623

>>90845878
Ezra is literally the worst character on the show
>>90845387
Why the fuck do people want this anyways? The whole point of Obi-Wan's time in Tatooine is that he's doing absolutely nothing trying to attract as little attention as possible while quietly meditating on becoming a force ghost. This episode with Maul is literally the only thing of significance that ever happened or will have happened to Obi-Wan in this period.
Wanting an Obi-Wan movie in between Episodes 3 and 4 is like wanting a MGSV prequel where Big Boss sits unconscious in a hospital bed because he's supposed to be in a coma.
>>90845792
Yeah. If it's a fight between two masters, then it's not going to last long at all. A fight in martial arts should only ever be a couple seconds consisting of defense and final decisive offense.

I think most people would agree. Not even casual fans want that Han Solo spinoff because only Harrison Ford belongs in the role.
>>90845921
>WHY DO YOU WANT WHAT I DON'T LIKE
seriously I just want a comic or some shit. If Han Solo gets a whole fucking movie, he deserves a good comic devoted to him.

Admittedly it's about wanting to see Ewan McGregor play Obi-Wan as a lead one last time more than anything. There isn't a whole lot you can do as far as a story though, so it'd be tricky.
>>90845921
>This episode with Maul is literally the only thing of significance that ever happened or will have happened to Obi-Wan in this period.
The speed of it all makes this pretty funny. Kenobi probably had a really mundane routine at this point. The only reason the fight was a short as it did was because he had a pot of womp rat stew on that he didn't want to overcook.
He told Ezra not to do sith drugs and killed his nemesis, then went immediately back to being the Galaxy's most boring hermit.

Yeah but at least a Han Solo would actually be a movie what with dialogue, a conflict, a resolution, etc while an Old Ben movie would be a single guy doing nothing in the desert because anything more would break lore. And before you bring up the Obi-Wan issues of the comic let me remind you that the story explains the first few times Obi-Wan ever did anything on Tatooine and ends with him going 'Fuck that I'm attracting too much attention'. That's why they moved into Yoda flashbacks.
>>90844958
>Obi-Wan knowing Ezra's name was nonsense
You now realize Obi-Wan and Yoda have been communing for the past 15 years through the Force and Kenobi's known about other Jedi survivors the entire time and DID NOTHING.
I wish the episode focused more on Maul with occasional focus on Ezra. Maybe have Maul see hallucinations of Savage, Talzin and the Nightbrothers and as he's dying, sees one last vision of Vader throwing Sidious over the ledge, passing on knowing the end of the Sith is at hand.

>Obi-Wan assumes his stance for Form III - But then, he shifts to the opening stance of Form IV. Now, Maul has had experience fighting both Forms. He fought a Form III master in Obi-Wan during the Clone Wars. But he also fought a Form IV master in Qui-Gon... and defeated him, using an old trick involving his lightsaber hilt. So when Maul saw Obi-Wan seemingly switch Forms, he was certain that he had it in the bag. A Form III-using Kenobi would've fought him to a stalemate, but an Form IV-using Kenobi would be just as easy as his master was... Which was precisely what Obi-Wan knew Maul would think. Because even though Obi-Wan shifted his stance, he never actually changed his Form. Maul rushed forward with the same trick that killed Qui-Gon, expecting to a Form IV user, but instead, he ran headfirst into a Form III master who had seen that little trick and had had nearly three decades to devise a counter to it.

The episode could have done a better job of clarifying and reminding us of what Maul's goal is, but up until this point I feel that it's been made no secret that he's not in any real position to achieve what he wanted in TCW and that he's adjusted his desires accordingly.
At this point with all that's been taken from him, Maul's only real way to make peace with his current station is to overcome something responsible for his downfall, and at this point killing Kenobi is the only outlet he sees that'll give him some modicum of closure.
>>90848489

Which wouldn't have been necessary had Leia not shat her droids onto the planet. In either case, it was convenient coincidence, Luke's conversation with Owen and Beru establishes quite clearly that Kenobi lives far from the Lars homestead enough that they don't see or speak with him regularly and have no idea what he does with his time. Moreover, your example is unsound because Luke was closer to Kenobi's place than he was to the Lars homestead when he caught up to R2-D2 and was subsequently attacked, so it wasn't even a matter of Kenobi "watching over him", it was a matter of fucking Sand People stomping all over Kenobi's backyard and him coming out to chase them off, and Luke being there was also a coincidence because he was by no means supposed to be anywhere past the vaporator ridge.

>Hell, Filoni said in the Recon that this episode had more deleted scenes and cut content than every other episode they've done combined. They should have taken that as a sign that they needed more space for this story to breathe.
No, it was just how the episode took shape. As they developed the story and episode it evolved/devolved as needed to tell the story.
It did not need to be longer or shorter. If it was longer it would've dragged on and people would complain about that and say "it should've just been one episode!"

Maul thought he had all the time in the galaxy. He had everything at that moment. Power, a planet under his control, a loyal army and his enemy broken. Once all that was taken from Maul and his further attempts to move on by getting the weapon in the Sith Temple was thwarted. Not to mention Ezra rejecting him. The only thing Maul felt he had to live for was at least getting to kill Obi-Wan. That's all Maul can reach for.
My life for yours.
>>90849105
Depends on what you mean by different circumstances. As it is, part of the point of his story is that Maul's just too broken to really change. He's only known the Sith ways so he struggles to try to deal with life as a non-Sith, to the point of trying to have his own legacy and STILL approaching it as a Sith would. Even his attempts to make something resembling a friend are self-sabotaging because he kept trying to force Ezra to be on his side and never quite understood why bullying him into friendship wasn't working. He can't let go of his grudges and move on because he doesn't know how.

>>90850408
Maybe they determined he no longer was, or that the canon demanded it. idk, this episode was rushed as fuck so it feels like it came from higher up
>>90850408
He was brought back in TCW because Lucas wanted him back. He returned in Rebels because Filoni felt his story needed to be finished in an animated medium rather than relegate it to a comic or book.
Not sure why that didn't apply to Ventress, though.
>>90850443
>>90850302
They've been building up to this all season, you're crazy if you think Disney inexplicably ordered them to kill Maul.
>>90850535
They'd already planned to kill Ventress in TCW, so I guess they decided it was better to stick to the story they'd already scripted rather than have her appear and die in Rebels.
In Maul's case we don't know if they planned to kill him in TCW- it doesn't seem like they did.
>>90850302
Maul was going to die anyway. The original plan was for him to be killed by Vader in the season 2 finale (so he'd appear pretty much just so he could be killed off), but they decided to get a little more out of him and let Obi-Wan handle him.
>>90850535
>Not sure why that didn't apply to Ventress, though.
Because the episodes for Ventress had already been written back when Clone Wars was airing and people didn't want to get in the way of that work. Rebels couldn't have done it unless they ignored that writer's work or had nothing but flashbacks.
>>90850575

> As if its only purpose was to awkwardly cut Maul's character arc short.
It didn't cut his arc short though, it just concluded it.
In TCW his goal after Talzin made him somewhat sane(while not healing him from his madness) was to build up his own Empire and to get revenge on Obi-Wan. He built up his Empire and got some revenge on Obi-Wan, and let him suffer for a while, planning to eventually kill him. Sidious topples Maul's Empire and kills Savage and Talzin and he loses Mandalore.
Then, he's left wandering for awhile, eventually getting stranded on Malachor. His primary goal now is to train a successor to give himself a legacy. He tries doing that with Ezra, but ultimately Ezra doesn't fall for it and rejects him. Maul mostly gives up on that goal, now seeking out Obi-Wan once more with the visions given to him by the Holocrons. He wanders on Tatooine for an indeterminate amount of time(long enough to start breaking down and for his legs/clothes to get damaged). He finally confronts Obi-Wan, but Obi-Wan tricks him and cuts him down, finally giving him the sweet embrace of death.

Do we know how high up canon the Maul game cancelled after the Disney deal was supposed to be? Just another part of the EU like The Force Unleashed or actually a part of the G Canon?
It looks like George was getting far more involved in the transmedia in the last years before the sale and one of the lead devs even got a peek into the Underworld treatments, so I think it was possible that it was actually going to be canon.
On a certain level, it would make sense. Rebels' Maul plotline (in general, not just in the last episode) feels very afterthoughty, as if they just cobbled something together after their old plans fell through and the game could have easily thoroughly set up the Nu-Empire that was allegedly going to operate behind the scenes in Lucas' Episode VII treatment.
>>90851821
>Just another part of the EU like The Force Unleashed or actually a part of the G Canon?
The only thing that ever counted as G canon was the movies. The Maul game would've been C canon, just like the rest of the EU. Also, the Maul game fell apart long before the Disney sale- TCW's Maul storyline was already getting in the way of what the team wanted to do.
>>90851821
>It looks like George was getting far more involved in the transmedia in the last years before the sale
That's not really anything new. Lucas tended to show up to stuff for approvals, especially major projects like games. Towards the end he started showing up mostly for major stuff and didn't bother much with books and comics and such.
Also he wasn't that involved with the Maul game. IIRC he had maybe one meeting with the guys. That's less than his involvement with TFU, which was several meetings (and even then his biggest contribution was suggesting a love interest).
>>90851885
>Also, the Maul game fell apart long before the Disney sale- TCW's Maul storyline was already getting in the way of what the team wanted to do.
Oh, interesting. I operated under an impression that it was a much more recent thing.
>>90851951
No, the Maul game was a mess, the Devs themselves didnt even know what they wanted to do
>>90851951
Yeah, the TCW stuff threw a wrench into their story. They even tried shoehorning Savage into the game despite not knowing anything about the character or his role in the story beyond "Maul's brother" so an early version of story that took place pre-TPM had a bulked up Savage working with Maul. They didn't quite know the context of the character so they didn't know how bizarre and nonsensical that would've been.
I should point out that nobody told them to add Savage- they just knew the character was being created and felt they should add him in to make Lucasfilm happy. This kind of thinking is also what led to the Talon thing- Lucas casually remarked on the similarity to Maul and said "hey they're friends" and the team took this as an order to make Maul and Talon partners in the game, so they rewrote their entire storyline to have it set in the Legacy era to explain why Talon is there (I can't remember how they explained Maul being in the Legacy era, but it was something like being frozen or actually being resurrected in that era, some kind of asspull like that).
These guys were not the brightest.

The fact that the audience already knows that Obi Wan wins, and that Maul doesn't land a strike on Obi Wan AND that it isn't even abundantly clear that Obi Wan even landed a strike means that the reaction goes from "Oh, wow, it was Obi Wan who landed the decisive blow" to "Wait? What? Maul's dead already?"

Also, after TPM it was Maul's hatred that kept him alive. This time he accepted his death.

>>90856537
Honestly, I think that guy was kinda right, Ezra's importance to the episode is understanding that his fate belongs in the future, he can't be bogged down by these old debts. Moreover I felt like this episode, and likely the upcoming ones, will finally bring an end to the last vestiges of The Clones Wars. Its just Rex now.
>>90856466
I think the "Maul will be brought back again" posts are just memeing, it's pretty explicit that this was his end.
It's no secret that Filoni didn't want to bring him back in TCW in the first place, they had to trust Lucas and work hard to turn him into a compelling villain again, and the only reason he stuck around so long was because Filoni wanted to give him (and Obi-Wan) proper closure to the TPM fight.
The fact that Maul even repeated his TPM choreography only to fail again to kill Obi-Wan is absolutely poetic.
I think Lucas must be very happy how things turned out.

>I would have prefered more banter between the two
Agreed, to be honest.
They couldn't have had a tense fight because we already know that Kenobi wins, but they could have spent more time on using the fight as a "celebration" (for lack of a better word) of Maul's life by really getting to grips with his state of mind and the end of his journey.
It didn't need to be a flashy spectacle or anything but there could have been more meat on the bone.
Now that Maul's arc is complete, do you think bringing him back in the first place was justified, or should his death in Phantom Menace have been permanent?
>yfw thrawn dies this season

>>90856887
He brought a lot in TCW, so i'm glad he came back.
Also he gave us the sheev showdown, i can't hate Maul when moment was so glorious.
>>90856612
I was agreeing with him. I don't think these people who hate on Ezra being a focal of the episode understand at all. It's like they just watch the show for cool SWs fight scenes and battles but not understanding the characters. Ezra didn't need to be there and he learned that the hard way. It still shows Ezra's vulnerabilities like season 2. He still has a lot to learn as a character despite how far hes come.
As for the fight scene itself, did people really want a long and drawn out fight between two old men? It would've been unnecessary and undermined Kenobi. He's older and wiser and wanted to end the fight. This is consistent with ANH where he's trying to quickly defeat Vader with thrusts and jabs.
>>90856775
Not that Anon but I agree. I think focusing the majority of the episode on Ezra was a mistake and took away from the actual ending of the episode. Since it really didn't have anything to do with Ezra.
And as that other Anon said, the episode would have been way better if they had focused on Obi-Wan's and Maul's relationship and reflected on where it had led them.
I liked how fast their duel ending, it wasn't really about them having a duel, and more about why they did it.
But it would have had more impact if they had focused on Obi-Wan and Maul.
>>90856887

Filoni said in one of the Season 4 TCW BTS videos that he actually argued against it, but Lucas was adamant that Maul was still alive, so they worked it out.

>>90858551
How so?
It gave Kenobi an extended story arc through the show. It gave us some political drama as a third faction was created in the Clone Wars. It was the very catalyst that caused Mandalore to fracture back into Clan warfare ala' how they were in the EU. It gave us another dark sider running rampant, and upped the stakes with Maul/Savage killing some B-List Jedi. In Rebels, it gave Ezra his mandatory "hero is tempted by the dark side" arc, in an era where any other dark sider would have killed him as soon as they could.
They put Maul to use in very effective and interesting ways, I don't see how narrative wise it was a bad idea.
The only narrative complaint I can see is the very base complaint of a "death retcon", and one that would rob Kenobi of his victory in TPM. But anybody who says the ending of Twin Suns doesn't completely rectify that is lying. It couldn't have been any more of a perfect resolution to what was left off with TPM.

This is /co/ so I understand why you would see no problem with having someone survive who was cut in two and fell down a near bottomless shaft. I myself have never been a fan of having the same villains constantly recycled. And I like dead characters to stay dead. I would have found it acceptable if some subtle hint in TPM had foreshadowed his return. Without foreshadowing its just lazy storytelling. Ii TCW Mauls role could've been filled by Savage himself, or some other dark side user, a fallen Jedi perhaps? The Galaxy is a big place.
'Member in '83 when Luke cuts off Vader's hand- "oh look, wires n shit. Someone cut off his real hand before."

Are you forgetting when this happened in Empire Strikes Back?
Luke fell down a "bottemless chasm", only we clearly see him slide down into a chute. In Bespins case, it just shoots shit into the Gas Giant, but obviously on Naboo that isn't the case, so Maul found himself sent to the trash.
It's really not out of the realm of possibility because we've literally seen Luke survive falling down a huge pit before.
As for being cut in half, it's been explained by now that Maul survived the same way Vader survived being roasted alive with no limbs. Immense hatred fueling the dark side to preserve his physical body for as long as possible. In Maul's case it literally sent him insane.
>TCW Mauls role could've been filled by Savage himself, or some other dark side user, a fallen Jedi perhaps? The Galaxy is a big place.
I would agree with you here, but you're also forgetting that Lucas made the decision for it to be Maul partly to rectify Kenobi losing a potential rival/villain. Kenobi doesn't have the same connection he had to Maul with Savage, because Savage didn't kill Qui-Gon.
To Lucas, and definitely Filoni's credit, they usually do prefer to focus on new villains, and absolutely avoid retcons, because if done poorly it can ruin the consequences of death. Just look at comic books, I am not going to pretend like that shit doesn't make comic books unreadable. I hate it.
Maul is one of their only exceptions, and they made it work justifiably. They had a reason to bring him back, to give Kenobi an arc to push him over his emotional limits. And they did some original and exciting stuff with Maul to further justify it.
Thats my thoughts on it

They should never have shown Luke at all. Or Obi-Wan. Or Maul. Or Yoda. It was supposed to be a show about a crew of a Rebel freighter, not Ezra going through a list of all the Star Wars movie caracters that are still alive and collecting their signatures.
Seriously, which of the important movie characters he hasn't met yet?
Han, Chewie, Biggs, Acbar (we have seen Home One, so that will soon change) and Sheev I think.

>Biggs
One of the ideas the Rebel staff had considered was Biggs and Sabine having a relationship which would explain the checkerboard pattern on his helmet.

We got Witwer doing Sheev's voice. If the deleted scene counts, Biggs is in the Academy and hasn't defected yet. I bet Ezra will be the person who convinces him to.

Pilots in Rogue One have that design.
>you will never see a forbidden love subplot involving Thrawn and Pryce
>>90860087
existence is nothing but suffering
>>90860049
I just realized that Sabine is totally supposed to be the reason why everyone in the Rebellion paints their helmets.
>>90860087
But that's what the novel is for

Truth is what we make of it.
Besides, you can't handle the real truth.
>Ezra goes to Tatooine
>They don't have him ask Biggs for help finding Obi-Wan and then from being inspired by their adventure make Biggs tell Ezra that he may join the Rebellion of they could pick him up on his way to the Imperial academy next year setting up Wedge's recruitment of Biggs right before ANH.
They had one fucking job.
>>90860116
Did Gold Leader and the pilot who wants Ezra flying all up in her squadron ever meet Sabine? They had painted helmets.
>>90860237
Biggs graduated the Academy.
>>90860281
Well still you get the point. They could have had Ezra inspire him to join the Rebellion and help set up his defection.
I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't some semi-sentient recording of Maul in the Sith holocron pieces, that way he's dead but can still act as corrupting influence on Ezra.
>>90860116
It's totally and absolutely not true.
>>90860242
No but by the time of that episode her art had inspired rebel cells around the galaxy.
>>90860366
no
sorry but your waifu didn't invent painting
