I think because of the personal nature Obi-wan and Maul have with their antagonism and suffering, both of them have replayed their fighting styles against each over for like a decade and a half in their minds.
Maul's arrogance was that he hadn't evolved with his style like, at all. Obi-wan counted on that and looked for the signs of the opening that he was extremely ready for.

It was a samurai dual passing clash. Maul had stagnated in form, so Obi-wan delivered all his strength and speed for the first engagement. Not surprising at all.

The Clone Wars was on Cartoon Network, and they're less risk averse than Disney. It also helped that TCW was being bankrolled by an eccentric billionaire who payed for the show out of pocket, so Cartoon Network didn't have much to lose even on the off-chance that there was an uproar over the violence in it.

Of course if Disney really wanted to, they could easily be a little less tame with when it comes to character deaths at least. I doubt people would care if we saw Maul of all characters impaled by a lightsaber, but they simply lack the will for it.

I'm a Maulbro and can't say that I liked the episode, but I didn't really dislike it either. I still think they could have done a lot more with the character but they'd obviously decided against it and decided to take him out. And I can't really blame them. Maul was always a loose thread since he came back on the scene and he's been on borrowed time ever since.

Since they went with the "putting the rabid dog down" angle, I'd have preferred if they'd have played that up. As another anon suggested, maybe make it clearer that Maul knew that he was going to die, but did it anyway because of everything he's been through. But as I said, it could've been worse so, fuck it, that's that.

Honestly that's exactly what would happen. At this point Obi-Wan is OP that only three or four characters in the whole series could take him on, and Maul isn't one of them. At this point Maul is nothing more than a man child consumed by revenge and Obi-Wan is so above that shit he doesn't even give him the fight he's looking for.

I like it honestly. The samurai-like style of no moves wasted is very fitting for him, especially how he would fight in his old age. Of course it's hated because it's not a sugar-fueled flashy dance. Darth Maul really had no business coming back to life in the first place. "I HATED MY WAY TO SURVIVAL" is as cringy and edgy as you can get. We get it, he's popular, but having him survive being cut in half was just retarded.
