>10 minutes of Sharptooth cut because test audiences were pussies

When I was a kid Sharptooth was my shit. I would have killed to see those extra 10 minutes of 'rex. Why do they always get just the worst kind of people when they make test audiences?
>>
kinda weird naming a t-rex sharptooth, dont all t-rexes have sharp teeth? It's kinda like naming someone hairhead.

>>
>>90751610
I'm pretty sure it was actually either Spielberg or Lucas who made Bluth cut it from the movie.

Saying it was too intense, would freak kids out, etc.

Though from what I understand the 10 minutes weren't even all Sharptooth stuff. They just kinda cut some bits for no reason (if you watch it it's sometimes obvious when a random cut occurs) and rearranged/snipped some sequences in the Sharptooth scenes to make the peril less intense or something.

Probably the most obvious change was that Littlefoot was somehow supposed to find the valley on his own without the others, but then go back to save them-- I'd guess most of what was cut/rearranged concerns that. Also they killed Sharptooth to prevent him from entering the valley in the original plan; in the final cut it just seems like they happened to do it coincidentally.

I remember being bored out of my mind when they played the Land Before Time movies on my school. And I was a dinofag.
Then the T-Rex shows up and lil' me get his head up from nearly snoring like "aw fuck yes, now we cooking", and then it's gone.

I read somewhere that the Sharptooth cut footage involved Littlefoot's mom fighting it back mad, probably you would see here Sharptooth hitting and/or biting her to her literal death, so yeah. I guess this would be too much for kids, even though Bluth had this theory that no matter how much you traumatise and give kids emotional suffering if there's a happy ending, 'cause that fixes it all. You can see how he executed this principle in most of his movies

I mean, I'll give them credit for bringing a carnivore other than T. rex (much as I love Tyrannosaurus). They just made them look a lot beefier than they really were.
>>
>>90751610
what pissed me off about those movies as a kid was how stupid the theropods were. i always loved dinosaurs, the carnivores were the ones who cared about their families and literally had to slay giants to keep them alive. sauropods in the other hand with their tiny brains could crush their babies accidentally without noticing or caring

All Don Bluth movies up until Rock & Doodle were chop down to make them lighthearted, nobody talks about the missing footage from All dogs go to Heaven, let alone the missing footage from the first LbT, heck Rock & Doodle wouldn't been that bad if they actually didn't have that horrendous narration explaining everything cause children were stupid, so i guess this is why Don bluth said fuck it and make a Troll in central park, i guess.

While not common, it DOES happen, like with Black Cauldron, or there i say........The thief and the Cobbler?

What's worse is that the first American Tail was re-edited to be more family friendly by adding silly cartoony sound effects, mind you the horrendous "new" voices for the orphans, were actually the original placeholder voices before they bough up the actual kids to do their lines, and even then there's actual changes in dialogue at the end in the final cut.

It's a name to distinguish between different species, not just a generic descriptor. Humans would be like "two legs" or something. Not exactly distinct to us, but enough for other species to be able to say "okay yeah I know what you're talking about". Kind of like sharptooth.

The comic Unsounded has one of the coolest terms/slurs for humans I've probably ever heard. The three-fingered lizard people call them "spider paws", and I can totally see it.

Dinosaurs arent as threatening when you realize they're overgrown birds down to the hollow bones and feathers. Prehistoric mammals are more threatening as their bones were solid and musculature more complex.
>>
>>90761279
This rumor is very likely false. I remember there was once an attempt to dig into old Finnish TV schedules from some newspaper's online archives and check the details of that broadcast. But the length of the timeslot reserved for the movie back then didn't match with the idea that there was any extra footage in that film.

Watching the movie recently, while there was some obvious cuts to many scenes, what caught me more was how a majority of the narration felt obviously tacked on since it was just telling you how characters were feelings during certain scenes despite being obvious with the scene composition.
>>
>>90760883

>>90762269

>>
>>90762269
>>90762313
Yeah, I'd heard somewhere the narration wasn't even written into the original script and that Bluth was surprised to hear it in the finished movie. Who even knows whose idea that was even though some of it is actually decent.

The bit in the very last scene about the characters telling their story to their children feels particularly off to me hearing it as an adult. Like I don't think Bluth was thinking that fucking far ahead.

>>
>>90762364
The opening narration I think works.
>>
>>90762391
I thought that too the last time I saw it.

From what I remember it seemed to sort of alternate between actually fitting the scenes well and being sort of unnecessary/maybe implying things or drawing conclusions that no one originally intended. Not bad or anything, just another example of how it's always been a slightly edited product.
