I think he might have tried to go more" traditional". He probably would want to avoid comparison with Family Guy/American Dad/Cleveland Show and not have the cutaway gags. Beyond that it's hard to say.

Flintstones are shit. The comedy doesn't hold up at all and the pacing in each episode is wonky. It's from a time before people knew how to make good TV. It doesn't deserve anyone defending it, outside of it's status as a relic I guess.
