Elric storytime before SJ premiere.
Today we're gonna be looking at the first Elric story ever.
We're going into the Dreaming City.

yaknow, I picked up Moorcock's book at a used book shop and read it last month. Maybe beacuse it was the '60s it was hot stuff, but reading it now it was very "meh" with a lot of "really?"

And which book would that be?

wait back the fuck up -- P. Craig Russel in 1980? Okay I'm in for the art if not the story.

Seriously? The prequel? No accounting for taste i guess. I love it myself. Especially when Rakhir shows up.
>>90622443
I also have the gollancz edition one which comes with Master of Chaos. Myshella is a lovingly manipulative bitch in it.

book 1 is the prequel? ergh. So where's the start of the novels? Nevermind, asking Wikipedia. Says "The Stealer of Souls" 0583113443 then "Stormbringer" 0583121063 and these are novelette collections.
Awright, maybe I got off on the wrong foot, and I'll look up these books.

"Of Melnibone" is a prequel but it's also a good jumping on point.
This is the first Elric story ever written and originally intended to be the ONLY story ever. Do NOT read Stormbringer. Leave it for the very last.
Pick up Fortress of the Pearl and move to While the Gods Laugh. Sailor on the Seas of Fate is only if you're willing to dabble in the deep end of interconnectivity of the Multiverse and acid dropping concepts.

>>90622770

Because no matter what you think of the overall style, Stormbringer is not only the best story, it's also Moorcock's magnum opus and a pillar of fantasy fiction.

One more for the road.
All i ask is that people keep this thread bumped for other anons that might be interested.
Gonna try and bump it myself to save the thread from death.
Because damn it, more people need to appreciate classic fantasy as well as Craig Russels amazing artwork.

Actually, give me another 10ish mins and i'll storytime another one.

Can you bump now? I'll just have to tear out your shrieking soul and sacrifice if to the database demons to bring the thread back up.

I guess the system allows it now.
Will storytime again in a few. Gotta do something.
>>90623830
Well, that was a more frightening Elric.
Sorry about the delay. There's a storm going on outside.
So, want me to continue with this thread or should i make a new one? It's gonna about 30 pages.

For glorious Chaos.

This is wretched. I've heard of bits and pieces of this series here and there, but this is really dire stuff. Plus, the art is great. Thanks, OP.
>>90626541
>This is wretched
This is fantastic. If LOTR is the bedrock, then this is the soil that what we now know as modern fantasy was planted on.
You want wretched? Quest for Tanelorn and Behold the Man.
Just wanted to bump, thanks for the Storytime. Its pretty cool, I'll probably check out the novels.
>>90626727
I meant that as a compliment - that's why I said "plus, the art is great" instead of "but, the art is great". It's not like that's the only think I like about what's going on, but the tone of the story is making a strong impression on me.
I've never heard of those last two works, but I'll take you at your word when you say they're rough reads.
>>90626288
Eh, screw Pascal's Wager. I'll go with the Eternal Champion's wager and sacrifice random bystanders to both.
>>90627980
>I'll take you at your word when you say they're rough reads.
Damn straight they are.
Quest reads like if Moorcock decided on a dare to unceremoniously destroy all continuity up that point(a statement he has thankfully remedied since) and Behold the Man is....
Well here's the plot of it: Dude travels back in time to meet Jesus Christ to cure him of his gayness(and other things), finds out the Virgin Mary is a whore, Joseph is a drunkard and Jesus is a squinting, bucktoothed, retarded hunchback and decides to supplant him as the mythical figure of Jesus in order to keep the time loop closed.
I enjoy weird shit as much as the next guy but fuck me, that one takes a bit of the piss.
I actually have the comic adaptation of it here.
>>90628253
It's surprising that this is all from the same guy. He's got some range, that's for sure.
>I actually have the comic adaptation of it here.
That's kind of neat. I'm surprised that Marvel used to do adaptations of speculative fiction books, and that people were into that.
>>90628705
If you really want to see his range, check out Glorianna, Dancers at the end of time and especially War Amongst the Angels

here you go.
Thanks a lot for posting this, anon. Any chance you have the Ruby Throne or Stormbringer Elric comics? Going through Razörfist's Elric recommendations for free on /co/ would be good shit.
>>90634746
Not OP but we had Michael Moorcocks Multiverse storytimed this week,
>>90474390
I think there was a thread about the Ruby Throne today but I cannot find it back, sorry.
>>90636835
Sweet shit, thanks.
