It's not that the animation is particularly bad, it's just whoever is storybording the episode gets to do the art style for whatever reason. Meaning you have episodes like pic related having ugly ass proportions and going off scale.

However I admit that despite loving Gumball, their writers always seem to get stuck on a rut when coming up with episode idea's and just rehash them.

90% of season 2 and 3 were just car chases, to a point they even had a car chase without any damn cars. And now season 5 has been reusing the "Gumball get's obsessed over someone" and "Character's coming up with their own plan/ideas that are drastically over the top due to their imagination" episodes.

Based on what you are saying, The Clone Wars and Samurai Jack are shitty cartoons because they for the most part do not do off-model character designs.

What she fails to understand is that SU is very different than AT. It isn't in a whacky fantasy world that's played fast and loose where you can just add shit in to play around with and the plot is far more important to the quality of the show.

Also that same philosophy is what killed adventure time as the boarders inevitably became fans of their own show and treated it as a means of essentially doing canon fan cartoons and shipping bullshit every other week. Not that being a fan of your own show is a bad thing. It worked really well for Venture Bros. But note that they weren't really 'fandom' fans.

For it to work for SU, Sucrose would have to get boarders who cared as much about and had the same vision regarding the plot and setting as much as she obviously does. Which would be near enough impossible under the loosey-goosey style they have.

I just feel like there was a slow creep that moved through the show after the cluster got talked down. It wasn't a problem at first but now its killing me because I just can't figure out what my problem is exactly.

I'm going back to previous episodes and looking at the recent stuff, and my only complaint is that its different. But I am positive there is more to it then that. Its good for shows to progress over time but something about recent SU just isn't doing it for me.

Maybe its too much Lapis, I liked it when Lapis was kinda like the Green Ranger, rarely seen but really cool when he was. Or Peridot becoming frog fiend. I just don't know.

I don't understand how this show went from Really Good to Absolute dog shit in the span of 4 seasons.

It's really sad how the first season was comfy and was an actual boy doing boy things, season 2 was rough around the edges but was still charming and now we got this shit where steven cries every episode and we can see a complete formula.

Lapis being the focal point means salty bitch for the entire episode

It's just the Cartoon Network format. It's actually incredibly difficult to make something have a solid continuous story with consistent lore and proper character development and behaviour when multiple episodes are being written and boarded at the same time by different groups. There won't be much communication between the groups and it will usually end up contradicting itself or devolve into a heap of filler, which the show wasn't really made to execute well.
