>It's a "villain claims they're the most powerful being in ever" episode!

Almost every anime in the 80s and 90s
>it's a "heroes beat the strongest villain but something even stronger shows up one second later" episode
>its a "the planet is gonna blow up it 5 minutes" episode.

Wonder why Frieza did this? Wasn't he scared of Beerus? The god of destruction might get offended.
>>90596815
Beerus sleeps for long periods of time so I guess he was counting on living his full life as the defacto strongest before Beerus wakes up again.
>>90596815
He was space Hitler, why wouldn't his ego be huge?

Even if Frieza won, his life of immortality would have only lasted a little over ten years before Beerus wakes up and blows him the fuck off. (Beerus can still destroy someone who's immortal)
For the sake of not ruining the entire Namek arc, I'm just going with Frieza didn't know Beerus could kill an immortal.

I always got the impression Beerus was quite tolerent of Frieza and Frieza got delusions of grandure because of it.
>Villain has a pretty low power level, but through sheer balls and extremely clever use of what they have they are a serious threat

Story line reason is because of his ego. Not everyone knows of Beerus so he used that to his advantage.
Obviously the real explanation is that Beerus hadn't existed yet and the Dragon Ball story was about to rap up before Jump and angry fans brought in Cell and Buu

What's it matter if you don't measure up to a literal god?
Freeza's still absurdly more powerful than everyone else in the universe and single-handedly broke power scaling for the rest of the series.
>>90598548
Considering what a egomaniac Frieza was it would matter to him

>Obviously the real explanation is that Beerus hadn't existed yet and the Dragon Ball story was about to rap up before Jump and angry fans brought in Cell and Buu
This is a longstanding myth. Toriyama had no intention of ending with the Frieza Saga.

do you ever imagine the incredible luck that goku came across all his villians in literally the perfect order?
>>90595234
Freiza actually was the most powerful being in the Universe at the time. The androids and Cell didn't exist yet and Buu was in hibernation.
>>90601101
That indeed is lucky
>>90598127He just wanted a quiet life.
