Ok, I have been binging this comic yesterday and so far I'm at the start of Hitball, and..... I'm starting to see the red flags. Like, even near the end of Chapter 4 I was getting some bad pacing vibes. Like they introduce Eightfold at the beginning of chapter 4 and then like 40 pages later they like "kill" her off, and then no one gives a shit (especially Isabella). and then Chapter 5 the art just takes a turn for the worst. Is pacing the biggest problem this comic is having now? Cause It seems to be one for me, Chapter 4 could have been split in half to be two chapters ffs.

You aren't, though. Chapter 5 has been a largely bloated mess, pacing-wise. The conversation with pointless background character gave us some nice background on Max, but Zack is trying to do way too much at once. The problem is there's a lot of nice bits spread through out the chapter, but none of them needed to be happening all at once. Half of this shit is just cluttering up what should be the main focuses at this point in time.

From the fall out of the last chapter, a few obvious things can go: The whole side bit with the lesbians is just completely out of place, narrative-wise. We're not digging into the mythology this chapter really, it's clear it's meant to be something of a breather and character refresher following Chapter 4's climax. Focus on the team dealing with a spirit like is supposed to be their day jobs and how their dynamic works now. Issac and Isabel got their character focus chapters, it's Ed's turn at bat. Hitball needs to be, like, a fraction of the length is was. More meat, less background character flavoring. It's ultimately just the prolog for the chapter. Max's whole side story into the underground kid bar is completely pointless at this time, set it up at most for later. Johnny works because he's largely weaving through these subplots and feeds into the actual story going on here. I'm not too certain what to do with Isaac and Isabel's sections here. They don't actually take up too much space, so they can probably stay. It's mostly an issue of de-decompressing what's there right now. And cutting back on trying to juggle too many subplots at once.

I did during chapter 4, but it just became real blatant in chapter 5. Plus Zack just became incurably lazy when he stopped drawing backgrounds and just relayed more and more on pastel backgrounds for most/half the panels.
