What came next hurt more.
>That wasn't me

God, if Xavier had died thinking Logan had decided to euthanize him after remembering what he had done I would have bawled my eyes out.
Also, seeing Laura's look of betrayal while she tries to kill Logan was really fucking harsh.
At least the way she reacts to finding out her real dad is there trying to save her compensated for it.
>>
Back in my day, shitposting was called trolling, and it was a art. Fucking lazy ass /tv/tards.
>>
Why did two grenades exploding point blank inside a van do NOTHING to the villians?

R rating doesn't make it any less stupid I guess.
>>
>>90509585
Just Logan, Charles, and Laura having dinner together with the family. It was blatantly obvious they were going to die in a horrific manner and it was only going to reinforce Logan's negative perception of letting people get close, but Charles deserved one more normal day after many decades of guilt and insanity and self loathing.
>>
I heard so much about how dark and depressing the movie was that I was actually surprised it had quite a bit of humor.

when Charles woke up and started talking to x-24 before it was revealed not to be Wolverine, I immediately pegged it as a shit-goes-wrong scene but in my naivety i expected it was a dream sequence that would send Charles into some kind of shock and fuck shit up in that way. When X got straight up cold blood murdered in the bed, I was legitimately shocked, and the ensuing chaos put a knot in my stomach and made me feel uneasy. Absolutely phenomenal movie.
>>
>>90509867
So I didn't see any nudity, and I think that part was censored in this silly country I'm in. Where was it exactly?
>>
>>90509959
They didn't dub any of the spanish dialogue.
>>
>>90509908

>>
>>90509819
>and it was a art
Don't you mean "an art"?
>>
>>90509986
I also thought hoped it was a dream sequence. I knew there was something wrong with that Logan, but I still thought it could be him.
Also, I predicted from the beginning that that guy wasn't Logan, so when I saw his face I was really surprised. Way to play with my expectations, movie.
>>
>>90509986
I noticed that they didn't show Logan's face as Charles was speaking, and it made me suspicious. However, I was expecting them to show Logan crying or showing some serious emotion. I did not expect X-24. The moment the kid showed up with the baseball bat I knew every goddamn one of them was going to die fucking horribly.
>>
>>90509992
When Logan is in the limbo and driving around all the brides girls, one of the girls yells "hey driver, look" and flashes her tits for like two seconds.

/co/, I gotta tell someone. I just saw this like an hour ago

I cried. I balled my fucking eyes out in this movie. I'm still crying. I haven't cried like this in my entire life.

My dad died last year and I spent the last year or so of his life caring for him like Logan did.

The moment Xavier said "you're just waiting for me to die" I fucking lost it. That feeling of being stuck and loving someone to much to move on was exactly how I felt.

I thought I was past this and I'm not and I fucking hate/love this movie for it.
>>
>>90510425
Someone gave them shelter in Canada. Rictor was talking to an adult woman over at the radio who said they were waiting for them.

It was actually funny, I watched the dubbed version and they used the same voice actress for her and the car dealership woman. The actress had a distinctive enough voice it got people wondering if the car dealership woman wasn't some sort of mole leading the kids into a trap.
>>
>>90510374
I just found it funny that they had a bunch of kids training to be super soldiers and assassins and the black kid still managed to be fat.

I understand. My father had been sick most of my life and I loved him with all my heart but when I was younger I did somewhat hate him for being sick since I was too immature to separate the sickness from my father. The relationship between Xavier and Logan really did hit home for me how hard it is to be in that scenario and I did end up tearing up at X's final scene since my dad also went rather peaceful but abruptly

You can just see the look of betrayal on Laura's face and Logan hastily saying that he wasn't who stabbed him to Charles... Good God.

Logan had reading glasses in a few scenes when they were necessary and was clearly stumbling, coughing, or in pain at all times.
>>
>>90510788
He also had a limp. How do you think he had one?
>>
>>90510652
it was more to show that Logan was aging/ dying

they bring the theme up a lot and the claw scene is a visual reminder that Logan isn't going to "heal quickly" like he has in the other movies of the franchise. It's a decent way to set up stakes for later in the movie
>>
Anyone else love how pathetic the main antagonist's death was? No grand scene, no claw through the heart and dying words, just a fucking bullet to the face from a dying old man.
>>
>>90510710
It was actually endearing how often Logan, for one reason or another, referred to Xavier as his father.

As for my unexpected feels scene, I gotta' go with Caliban pointing out that despite his help Logan never included him in his plans of buying a boat and leaving for the ocean with Xavier.
>>
>>90510705
How did putting it in corn syrup affect mutants who live in places without corn syrup everywhere?

Why was Canada a safe haven when they plainly would've been in on the genetic castration to stop mutants from being born in Canada?

Why didn't someone like Forge or Beast find out the problem and fix it instantly?

Why was Caliban completely unaffected and able to track his friends to exact locations?

It brings up something scary as hell. They're mutants. But in the end, despite what everyone says,

THEY'RE STILL HUMAN.

They're getting sick. Old. Tired. Their powers are too. Regeneration isn't infinite, it gets worn out too, doesn't work as well. They can't escape mortality for all their godlike power.

In the end, they're utterly, inescapably, purely human, and that's the tragedy of it all.

>How did putting it in corn syrup affect mutants who live in places without corn syrup everywhere?
Transigen is a multinational corporation, and the farmer points out corn syrup is used in most foods everywhere in the world now.

>Why was Canada a safe haven when they plainly would've been in on the genetic castration to stop mutants from being born in Canada?
There were people waiting to shelter the kids on the other side of the border and Transigen simply didn't have as much power there as they did in Mexico.

>Why didn't someone like Forge or Beast find out the problem and fix it instantly?
It was slow.

>Why was Caliban completely unaffected and able to track his friends to exact locations?
Caliban worked for Transigen. And he's just a very skilled tracker. It's even alluded he's giving off delayed information to buy Logan some time.
>>

>>90510950

>>
>>90510950
The bones are coated in adamantium but theres no way the connective tissue is indestructible. I figure X-24 was strong enough to push Logan onto the tree, tearing ligaments and other tissue while pushing the bones out of the way.

As far as the leg goes, I suspect it was more a bad injury to the leg muscle that hasnt totally/properly healed.
>>
>>90510908
What I got was that Caliban helped Transigen capture the mutants they harvested for DNA and then cut ties with them when he realized they were wiping out the mutants. Then after Xavier killed the X-Men Logan sought him for help keeping Xavier hidden. Caliban was not only Xavier's caretaker but an early warning system of sorts.

Man, I felt really bad for that family. They get violently murdered just for giving some strangers a place to stay for the night, and considering what the badguys did to that gas station attendant, they probably would have been killed anyway.

Logan wrecking the car wasn't supposed to be funny.

The man had just broken down when trying to say goodbye to Xavier, wanted to get out of there but couldn't because the car was fucked.

That was a broken man taking out his anguish.

What kind of autistic lack of empathy would you need to have to see it as amusing?

>>
>>90510710

Logan might have been scared, but he was more confused than anything by X-24.
>>
>>90511604
Soft, softly. Easy. It was both. Have you never been in that moment? It was both for the audience. It was funny because it was an angry dd yelling and smashing his truck up after the horror. It was a brief dual moment for the audience as one of levity with him going "AW GAW DAMN TRUCK" so we laugh, even if we're crying because he buried his Dad and now the damn truck won't start, like what's next ice cream falling from the cone?? It's a paradox moment of levity and severtity after cold emotional shock.

>>
>>90511604
It was pretty funny, most people laughed in the cinema I was in. The juxtaposition with the dude going out fishing, plus the wide flat angle was what did it.

That doesn't mean people don't empathise with him. Tragedy and comedy are two sides of the same coin.
>>
>>90511595

someone in another thread said that small laughter is a natural response to awkward situations, and compared to the rest of the journey they'd gone through it was definitely a breather moment of sorts, so seeing him act ultraviolent in an unfamiliarly non-action scene would definitely make some people recoil a bit

I mean thats what Shane was saying in his movie, but its kinda sad if the movie's ending was basically saying Logan couldn't change himself even in the end.
>>
Seeing Xavier old, demented, defeated and broken kept reminding me of the once young college student who used to flirt with girls in bars during the 60s using genetics as a conversational topic.
>>
Where exactly this fits into the universe?

Its suposed to be after the future of days of the future past, that is 2023, and this is 2029, but in the movie said its been 25 years since the last mutamt was born.

Then it can't be the same timeline because in 2023 there was plenty of young mutants in the school.

IS this a third timeline? Or connects with the original trilogy or what?
>>
>>90512342
I think it was supposed to be lighter to give the audience a breather after everything that had happened, it was the first light moment since Xavier got stabbed.

I'm not sure it was the right decision though, I wasn't sure whether i was suppose to laugh even though others in the theater did.
>>
>>90512384
That's correct. But the whole point was that deep down Logan was a good man and a hero. He believed in hope and in protecting the weaker and even after a lifetime of neglect and abandonment he went down embracing his true nature and saving the future of the mutant race.

He was not an animal after all.
>>
THAT FUCKING SCENE

Where Logan is driving his limo trying to escape the ambush in the yard, he started heading towards the fence.

I pre-rolled my eyes because I was about to see the stupid car chase scene cliche where a can easily takes down a chain linked fence. It didn't help that the fast and furious 8 trailer played before the movie.

But that didn't happen, something way cooler and interesting happened instead.

Fuck yeah, this movie shocked me every chance it could.
>>

"X-Men" and "X2" are HARD CANON to all movies. Everything else is in a state of flux.

"Logan" only references "X-Men", "X2", "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and "The Wolverine", so take those as canon to the movie and disregard "The Last Stand", "First Class" and "Days of Future Past".
>>
>>90512312
They didn't get the coordinates from the comic book, the comic book just talked about Eden being a refuge for mutants up north.
>>

Don't know why that got me, but it did. Given the comics all those kids idolized Logan as a hero, and he came through for them in the end.

>>
>>90512575
No, the comic had the exact coordinates. Logan noticed at the bar.

Also it was a nice, subtle touch he was reading the page where Wolverine rescues Rogue and probably lamenting real life wasn't like that.
>>
>>90512532
>>90512550
Not necessarily.

I think part of the point of "half of it didn't happen and it didn't happen like this" was also a nod to the previous films.

X1 and X2 happened, but perhaps not the way the films showed it

Mangold have to had intended for the scene to be funny. If the camera actually followed Logan from the grave to the truck and shown his break down up close, the scene would not have been comedic at all. But the director decided to stay with Laura as Logan goes berserk on his truck, changing the tone of the scene completely.

>>90512423
They should've put the lighter moment a bit further, I for one like to stay in the moment when someone dies.

Like >>90512659 said, I think it was meant to be funny.

Direction is everything. If we had gotten like a close up of Logan beating up the car with maybe some sad music, it would have come across as serious.

But since it was from a distance with his screaming quieter because of this with no other sounds, it comes across as humorous for whatever reason.
>>
>>90512961
It was edited to be comical, but yeah, I didn't laugh because I thought it was funny. I laughed because it was juxtaposed to the death of a fucking important character and good man. If the camera had stayed on Logan the entire time I'd say it wasn't comedy but the cuts back to Laura's face make it funnier than it is. God, I know how he felt too, old, weak, battered, dying, everything falling apart around him, everything going wrong, just like what always happens, he buried literally everyone he ever cared about.

Rejected ideas from throughout production.

>Early drafts included Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth, who would be running an underground casino in Oklahoma City. Logan would seek him for help protecting Laura, leading to a confrontation with Donald Pierce and the Reavers, but the idea was eventually scrapped.

>Early drafts included Mister Sinister as the mastermind behind Transigen, the Legacy Virus and Laura's creation, but the idea was scrapped to keep the movie grounded and self-contained.

>In early drafts included an "underground railroad" for mutants run by former members of the X-Men, with Kitty Pryde as their leader, but the idea was scrapped to keep the movie self-contained.

>Early drafts featured a flashback detailing what happened to the X-Men during Xavier's breakdown, but this was scrapped as James Mangold felt it was circumstances behind the incident were better left to the imagination.

>Early concept art displays a more dystopian future, with society on the verge of a breakdown; and Logan having a dog as a companion.

I mean, if it's not a mutant power, how the fuck did he get to be such a fatass? He was raised in a completely controlled environment, so unless he ate all of the escapee kid's food, there doesn't seem to be a reason for him to be grossly obese.

Why were they going to the trouble to chase down the children at the end? They'd already established that they could just use DNA samples to make more, and they drove this home with the remark at Caliban's corpse...
And we know they escaped from Mexico where they were TRYING to euthanize them..

So why are all these heavily armed mercenaries chasing after super-dangerous children and wrestling with them, instead of just, you know, shooting them with all the guns. Guy could lose an arm doing that.

It was like, here in that kid's hand was the superhero ideal that Logan could never really live up to except with his dying actions. Like this kid's naive, childhood ideal but that day that kid learned the harsh lesson that that the world is awful and the only way to live up to the childhood ideal is to sacrifice your own life.

Bigger question: This super armed mercenary force that did illegal activity in Mexico feared them crossing the boarder into Canada. Why? It changes nothing, they clearly care little for rules or authorities so what's stoping them from saying "fuck you" and just going over the boarder. Also wasn't it made clear "Dead or Alive" I'm lost how a good air strike wouldn't solve their problems.

1. Xavier for decades has been lock up in an iron prison with only two people to see him, he was well desperate for normal life
2. Logan was lost, confused, with no direction on what to do next and thought Caliban was dead and felt they had no hard leads on them.
>>
>>90513928
You were supposed to feel that way anon. It also had a narrative purpose. We saw the corn fields, responsible for the gene suppressor agent and how it was being run by a naive family who valued nature and ethics (which sort of ties into the whole thematic link of the x-men films where humans and mutants are just affiliates of a bigger plan) and we also were introduced to the killing machine and the scientists. But yeah, they were always going to die and it was cruel.

This is the 10th film in the X-Men Universe, it's a little fucking late to be crying about sequels.

I'm saying that they finally found a compelling formula for Wolverine, but only in like his 8th movie appearance when the whole thing is winding down.

>>
>>90514312
you're correct but just for nitpicking sake:

All the kids were a part of the "X-23" experiment with Laura being X-23;23 in the movie

since the experiment was a bust because kids have violent outburst they were meant to be killed to hide evidence and just clone Wolverine without any higher thinking above rage and follow orders as experiment X-24
>>
>>90513231
>Early drafts included Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth, who would be running an underground casino in Oklahoma City. Logan would seek him for help protecting Laura, leading to a confrontation with Donald Pierce and the Reavers, but the idea was eventually scrapped.

I mean, I could have liked that. A still-young Sabretooth taunting Logan but ultimately helping because there's few muties left. It'd be either that or Sabretooth being in charge of training the kids into killing machines.

There's the risk of it becoming an international incident at that point, also Canada was a safe haven for mutants I believe(cue Underground railroad references). Wasn't Rictor in contact with someone over the radio, too?

You should not need the writers to tell you why it would be a big risk for a paramilitary force hired by a private US corporation to cross the border into Canada. It is obvious why that would be a risk for them.

That said, I would have been cool with them namedropping Alpha Flight.

She fucking got harpooned. Even for someone with a regenerating gimmick, thats amazing that they could get away with that on a little girl character.
A lot of it isn't any legalities, but rather the fact that showing certain things is likely to turn mass audiences away. You can show a little girl being raped and brutalized, but it'll net you an NC-17 rating and good luck getting theaters to show that.

I've been in a lot of threads that have talked about sad parts but haven't really seen any mention of the parts that nearly got to me.

>Th-there's water
The fact that Wolverine tries to justify the spot for having the water he promised Xavier really gets me for some reason, particularly his recognition at how far it is from what he promised. Jackman sells that choking sob too, goddamn.

>Shane speech at the end
I've actually seen more people complain about this but I thought it worked 100%. To me, there's a lot in common with Logan's eulogy for Xavier because she doesn't have the words for it. Instead, she borrows a speech she doesn't totally understand (and you can really hear she doesn't understand it especially by the end). She repeats it because she recognizes the gravitas and the similarities between Logan and Shane and between herself and Little Joe. It's ironic because it's more of a match to what Logan tells her than she even realizes. That part got a tear out of me, probably because Shane was such a huge bonding moment between my own dad and I.

Oh yeah, I expected that too. But frankly, it's more a punch in the gut how they went with that scene.

It makes you realize how bad things truly were with the evil company, how wrong Logan and Charles were when they decided to stay in, and some interesting reasons why humans do hate mutants.

It was the perfect set-up to make a tragic scene, and they made it perfectly.

I would have prefered that the boy survived, maybe only barely, to make Laura go even more berserk when she fights again X-24

Xavier's story in this is too fucking real. Patrick Stewart first played him in 2000, almost two decades ago. The kids who grew up with Professor X, the wise leader of the X-Men, are now adults themselves. Their parents are starting to age and Xavier's struggle mirrors that so perfectly.

This was an 11/10 movie, fucking astounding from every level.

It was funny to see him way in the background going ballistic on the car while the little girl just stares at him. But it was heartbreaking knowing what he was going through.
It's scene/movie with many layers of emotion.

Didn't his claws get clipped in The Wolverine? Am I wondering about continuity too much, as in at all?
>>
>>90512550
X-Men and X2 are hard canon. They happened no matter what.
In the old timeline, they were followed/joined by X3, Origins, and The Wolverine. First Class was also canon to this timeline.

Then DoFP happened and retconned X3, creating a ripple that altered details of the other movies. For instance, Wade Wilson ends up becoming Deadpool instead of Weapon XI. We can assume that some events played out similarly (Logan goes to Japan, gets dogtags from Weapon X, etc.), but the big game-changer events (Scott, Jean, and Xavier dying, Gambit not being Channing Tatum, etc.) all got un-done so that the franchise could continue cleanly.

The Bad End future from DoFP was present day (unless I'm mistaken), but that shit was fixed by sending Wolverine back to the 70's.

>tl;dr
>Days of Future Past retconned any major character deaths/contradictions in continuity, while everything else can be assumed to have played out in more or less the same way

>>90513231

Throughout a good portion of the movie, I wondered what ever happened to Mariko and moreover, if Logan ever did the same. She'd have been in her late 40's/early 50's by that point.

It's probably was.
Jackman is the kind of actor who goes all out.

Hearing Xavier being a drug addled kindly grandpa the whole movie and how well Stewart nailed it just fucking shook me, especially in moments like him so eagerly telling Laura about that film.

Despite being 2.5 hours long, this movie wasted absolutely no time in any scene or shot.

Every scene with Charles fucked me up due to family experience with dementia.

Fuck man.

This movie was very pure to the idea of mutants, as comic allegories for real problems and persecutions and fears.

I think Stewart did a pretty chillingly good performance by using that idea - the stigmatized is the elderly, the one who once valued their agency, now dependent and ridiculous and robbed of dignity. Apologizing as he was wheeled through the casino; that could have been from a psychic attack, but you could see the same thing when some old guy has a screaming dementia attack in public.

Whole movie had a heavy theme of theft of agency, no matter the power or age.

How long did it take you guys to figure out it was his own adamantium skeleton that was causing him to age/die?

I thought it was just cancer and age meaning he couldn't swing back from all the horrific years of damage anymore. And the drinking was just to numb the pain as fast as he could. Slow supermetal poisoning, same diff.

>You should not need the writers to tell you why it would be a big risk for a paramilitary force hired by a private US corporation to cross the border into Canada. It is obvious why that would be a risk for them.
I do when they black ops in their own county just fine and clear have zero regards to their own countries rules, they are not government sanction, this is made clear in the film. So it comes off as strange that leaf land, somewhere no one has given zero shits about would be an issue.
