Not really.

The main reason why most cartoons have children as main characters is because they want them to be relatable to the target audience, since most of the people who watch cartoons nowadays are children. There are cartoons with adults as main character, but most of them are for adult-oriented shows.

There are exceptions like Korra and Corneil and Bernie from Watch my Chops, but still, the main characters are relatively in the same age group as the intended audience.

It is pretty strange. In the 80's and before, it was rare to see a cartoon that was centered around a child or children. Usually they were the sidekick or an obligatory kid character for your kid brother to relate to.

Well, when I was younger, most characters were something to aspire towards, if a character were younger than me or even just exhibited childish qualities then I'd instantly dismiss them as shit, the best example of a character who I and a lot of other 90s/early 2000s kids would've hated is probably Steven. Seriously, if Steven Universe were around when I was a kid and if you liked Steven then everyone would've picked on you for being a big baby, even something like Adventure Time's animation style I could see not being acceptable to the kids I knew/the kid I was, kids back then were edgier and more desperate to grow up and be taken seriously, gravitating towards shit like WWF, South Park and the Raimi Spiderman movies for example, nowadays kids seem genuinely happy to be children and seem to embrace childhood and childish things. Idk why but that's just my two cents.

Prior to to the 80s, most cartoons were about teenagers or cartoon animals. The 80s were the exception, thanks to a glut of notAnime made to sell toys.

I'm not bothered by children, but I'm bothered wit 12 year old having 30 year old drama life because the authors are hacks unable to make the difference between fiction and themselves.

No. What does bother me is that most of them end up falling flat on their face and turning out to be a disappointment because the writing couldn't live up to our expectations.
