Ask away.

I will also fuel the hype fire, because this is for lack of a better word, Kino.

It's pretty much a Western, with a bit of mutie/capeshit theme. There is deadset horse corraling at one point, an escape using a train, they use a Ford 'Bronco' at one point.

Nope. Nothing of the sort.

No. No chance. Too serious for that.

It should be up for Oscar contention...
I mean, it's no best makeup winner, but still.
The acting from the entire cast is great, even Dafne. Even Stephen Merchant
>>
>>90351157
Yes, there is some definite 'Run for the border'/'closed off border' /pol/bait shit in there. But thematically, it fits and is very loose satire if intended at all.

I think that's a loaded question. Trump is so loud and non-pc that showing human decency can be considered anti-trump.

Nothing too masturbatory, they introduce a genetically cloned younger version of Hugh as the set piece/force de major. But he's just a buzzcutted, more feral and cgi-youth version of Logan

Loli/Paedos will twist this movie to suit themselves, but the relationship between Laura (X-23) is purely kinship. With a touch of idolisation, not really Leon The Professional levels of supposition

How old is Dafne? Maybe later than 2019.
She certainly carried herself through the fight sequences, but because Logan feels very much like a stand-alone, and not wedged in-continuity (even for Fox standards), I don't know if they'll just allude to her past instead of directly referencing this film for her own self-titled or X-force movie.

Traditional costumed Wolverine does appear though.
In the form of comics and action figures. The antics of the X-men and their disappearance from the world brought on a nostalgia/commercial cash in of them and so he makes a meta cameo or two.
Otherwise, Jackman just wears his singlet (wife-beater) and jeans combo, a chauffeur suit, or a denim shirt and leather jacket combo.
>>
>>90353218
Exactly my point, if they don't at least show a flashback of him in the suit he got in The Wolverine, there's no point, it's all still tease garbage.

None at all

>Does it really deserve the R rating besides the profanity?

Yeah, there was blood but alot of gore, especially at the hotel scene
>>
>>90356051
No and yes in that order. No obvious hooks for a sequel (although I suppose they could make one about Laura), and the r rating is more than deserved. Shit's fucking brutal.
>>
>>90356051
Nah, no sequels.
Logan even says "There are no new mutants" at one point, quelling 'Wolverine and the X-men' theories.
The violence is fantastic and earns it's R rating, at no point did it feel like gratuitous ninja in a woodchipper violence from 'The Wolverine', so its a deserved R.
>>
>>90350873

Barely found out that the movie was directed by the guy that did 3:10 to Yuma.

That makes me want to see it more.
>>
>>90356911
It has a fantastic Western vibe to it too. It fits really well.

hey, lets not forget that Logan and Mariko did it in the Wolverine, so if they don't want to recast Huge out of respect, theres always Daken, he could be the new Wolverine along with Laura, where they get a sibling rivalry aobut how Daken never knew dad and is jealous how Logan's last moments were with Laura

I know Daken a shit, but come on, Wolverine was too before Hugh

>>
>>90358112
X-24 was fucking terrifying to them. They already knew what kind of damage Laura did to people, and clearly knew who Logan was. Seeing what was essentially his evil clone tear the shit out of the real Logan would put the fear of God into pretty much any of those kids but the oldest, who actually did contribute to the fight by dumping a fucking humvee on X-24. So nah, it made perfect sense.
>>
>>90358162
That's what I told my dad when he asked if the chick was coming back in the next X-Men movies, to which I said she might be pregnant with Wolverine's comic book son. Shame they never went with Daken even in DOFP

Man X-24 was really disappointing, dont get me wrong, he was executed well but he could have been much more, The whole movie was about the Logan family, and adding in Sabretooth would have made much more of an impact to his demise. X-24 could have been Creed with adamantum claws, they already referenced origins with the adamantum bullet, and Liev Schreiber was very much willing to reprise the role, it was very stupid not to have used him.

Plotwise, nothing will change if Creed WAS x-24, but it would strengthen Logan's death by actually giving closure to him and Sabretooth and leaving the new Wolverine (Laura) as the new generation

This really is my main gripe with the movie
>>
>>90358313
Ah, this I can agree on. I also kinda saw a bit of Origins Sabertooth with the haircut 24 had.

Also they might probably even give Laura the Wolverine costume in a future movie out of comic synergy and/or respects to the comic book version of him in the movie.

Do they call her Laura, and is she as cute as I hope?
>>
>>90350873
Does the story resemble, in any way, the Old Man Logan comics?
>>
>>90358313
X-24 came out of nowhere and only served at a metaphor/action piece. In fact, his reveal ruined a poignant moment in my opinion. It was also jarring to have cyborg guy, then evil doctor, then clone.

Not enough Logan/Laura stuff, too many side characters. This is mostly in the third act.

I feel like Wolverine doesn't develop as a character very much until the very end and him adamantly remaining an asshole until the last ten minutes was obnoxious. In fact, the way he's treated by, an admittedly senile, Xavier makes me feel like he didn't develop as a character at all in his time at the school.

I understand this movie doesn't work if the X-Men are around or if there plenty of mutants, but the contrivances to explain away a whole team of superheroes and then a whole race are awful. I understand what they imply happened to the X-Men, but that incident really got every single X-Men except Wolverine? Really? And the explanation for No More Mutants is dumb as fuck, honestly, even if they kind of set it up in the second act.

I feel like I had a few more gripes, but I only got a few hours of sleep since I went to see this.

Overall it was quite good and emotionally impactful. The excellence of some aspects make it easier to ignore the dumb shit, just as strong performances in the past kept X-Men movies from being garbage

>>90360710

>We are introduced to the Adamantum bullet
>it is shown that its not enough to kill Logan and penetrate adamantum but it would deal a very high blunt force trauma to the point of amnesia

The Wolverine
>we learn that Adamantum vs Adamantum will result in a never ending fight
>we also learn that it requires heated adamantum to the point of being molten to actually severe and damage Adamantum itself

Logan
>Adamantum Bullet can easily penetrate Adamantum and make part of X-24's head explode

I really hate this Adamantum Bullet bullsht and Creed's absence

THE GOOD REVIEWS AND RECEPTION OF THIS MOVIE JUST SHOW HOW CRITICS ARE BIASED.

Critics were just doing damage control to make it look like they weren't biased. If they didn't get called out like that then they would have hated Logan too. In fact, where were the critics that said BvS was bad because it wasn't "fun"? Did they all go into hiding when Logan came out? It's classic damage control. They don't care about Logan or Lego Batman because neither of them are big enough to compete against the MCU. DCEU films are, so that's what they try to blast for meme reasons.

>>
>>90362959
I think all the kids at the end were pretty dumb too, honestly. The biggest failing of every X-movie was an over abundance of wallpaper characters with shit powers and familiar names, which came back in full force during Act 3. Also, Laura and Logan didn't get enough time together alone.

As soon as X-24 appeared on screen I thought "they should have used Daken for this role" but as the movie went on I guess it's fitting that Logan's final fight is against basically his worse fear, himself being nothing but a mindless weapon.

>>90358313

That would have been great too, he could have still been a mindless killing machine since he'd clearly given into his feral nature in X1 and that could have been where his decent into animalism lead.

Saw the movie in Argentina
the movie theater was packed even though it was 2 pm in a thursday, I think the movie will be very successful.

It is a very good movie. an 8/10 for a normal movie, and a 10/10 for a super hero movie.
Many people got teary at the end.
The only thing that bothered me is some of the kids looked corny using their powers (not Laura). Action films with kid actors are never something easy to do well.

also, the reason why all the xmen died in this movie is much better than the comic book one with Mysterio deceiving Logan and making him kill everybody, which was extremely unrealistic.

No one was damage controlling by liking this movie. Critics didn't defend BvS because it wasn't a good movie and despite best Batman had a ton of glaring issues. Obviously the literal tons of reviewers giving Logan good reviews have not "gone into hiding" so I have no idea what the hell you're even talking about. A lot of people just didn't like the DCEU movies so far. Logan and Lego Batman were both legitimately better/more entertaining than MoS, BvS or Suicide Squad(or most of Marvel's movies for that matter). Just accept it.
>>
>>90375580
Not to mention that the movie did Superman horrible justice. Like, the extended cut existed and I'm glad it did but it but for both the characters' sake it could've been done way better, like cutting off Wonder Woman and the JL teasing.
>>
The movie was shit.

Half of it is an XMen movie, half of it is The Last of Us bullshit. Charles gets killed in the dumbest way possible When we could have seen him blowing up something or getting one final seizure to death. He didn't get any closing either, gets murdered to death. Also Logan dies a retarded death, stuck in a tree. The bunch of kids are retarded, the token nigger is ridiculous, the adamantium bullet is absurd, and in the end you have a bunch of kids in the middle of the desert.

Also pat stew didnt get enough screentime. They should have given the bad faggot a mustache to twirl.

He's not cartoonishly evil or a mutant hater, like on a certain level he seems to respect Logan for what he was and has no interest in killing him, Xavier or Caliban until they interfere with his shit. The hand is his only cyborg part.

I learned this from watching The Sopranos, but believe it or not it's kind of like the ultimate sympathy. Sometimes you watch a performance so good and real, with just the right amount of emotion and lens of reality that you immediately get a sense of awareness. If Logan and Xavier were both alive or even in the afterlife looking back, they'd probably laugh at that scene too, because you understand the character. I definitely recognize the seriousness and the gravity of the situation, but there's something about it that is like "Yup, that's Wolverine." Beats The Dark Knight in my book for best superhero film though probably less re-watchable. The relationship between Logan and Laura was pretty weak despite it being explicitly the main focus point of the movie. When she started crying for his death, it really didn't feel that earned. Great movie, fantastic even

It was the perfect movie to end the story of both Logan and Xavier

Although I have to say I'm a bit disappointed by the ending, The final boss being a clone of Logan? On one hand I get it, I get the theme behind it. a story of "you must overcome yourself to find piece" sort of thing, they could have gone better. Like a clone of Sabertooth or a clone of Sabertooth or Logan

In fact I'm disappointed that Sabertooth is nowhere to be seen. But that's less the movies fault and more the X-men movie franchise fault

This. X-24 shouldn't have been a thing at all, that role really should have gone to Sabertooth.

You could have him be feral or generally hard to control hence the reluctance to bring him out first, but be willing to play for the sake of getting to fuck with Runt one more time before they die. Why should Sabertooth give a shit about the mutant race when he can work with people to stick it to Logan?

The movie was written, filmed, and in the can before Trump was elected. Mangold (the director) is a bit of a liberal and it shows, but most of the leftish elements are more complex after a second look. For example: Good Mexicans vs. Bad Americans? Maybe... expect for that bunch of morons who tried to boost parts from from Logan's limo, and those crooked Federales who were working for Pierce. They all got shredded in the end.

The first half takes its time and sets up the world. It's what the trailers promised; a genuinely cathartic character piece and a reserved, respectable send off to Jackman's Wolverine. It's an interesting, compelling story that's largely free of the cliches that can ruin these sorts of things.
Suddenly, Charles dies the most telegraphed death since Han Solo, killing any real tension and drama, and there's an evil Wolverine clone and an evil British scientist and the X-Babies in their clubhouse. It abandons the tone completely and just becomes a standard superhero movie.
>>
What's up with Laura having friends? The whole point of her character is that she's isolated from literally everyone. >The facts that Jackman's not Canadian, nor short, does not care about the suit, and has been featured in a canon disjointed from the Marvel U keeps me from giving a fuck about -anything- FOX does with him. Deadpool gets a pass because it's self-aware about that and Reynolds plays such a perfect & brilliant Wade

Are you the kind of fag who hates on Jurassic Park, Dark Knight, and Lord of the Rings because they deviate from the original material?

Artificial insemination is exactly what "test tube baby" means. Back when the process was getting popularized, you'd be surprised how many people were against it under the premise that it was some kind of horrible unnatural science that violated the natural order of conception/child birth. The term was also used with the implication that the child themselves were physically/mentally deficient because they weren't "made naturally" and in some cases their birth mother was not their biological mother.

The shadow-y figure who clearly isn't Logan shows up as he's giving a long, emotional soliloquy and literally says "This was the best day I've had in a long time"
Come on.

X-24 was still better than most MCU villains
>>
So, the movie is set in the late 2020's, and Logan is driving a 2024 Limo at the start.

But then almost every other car just looks like a current model vehicle, with the exception of the self-driving trucks.

I get that this is a pretty bleak future, and maybe the significant technological advancements are experienced exclusively by people not living where the movie takes place. But it still stood out to me that in the parking garage I was seeing the same cars that we're expecting Government spooks to be driving 12 years down the line?

Logan seemed to pull a shovel out of nowhere, but I could kind of assume that it was in the truck.

And the kids were nowhere near the same quality as Laura's acting.

That's it. Those are my complaints. Great movie otherwise, would easily recommend to anyone, regardless of whether they enjoy comic movies.
>>
>>90396403
/tv/ turned it into a way of describing a movies quality with kino being the best and flick the worst. Last time i went there it was used ironically, but as usual some dickheads didn't get the joke and now they're being serious.

I wish my fiance was okay with depressing movies and gore. She loves the X-men films and Patrick Stewart, but I feel like she wouldn't make it past Laura's claws introduction scene.

Wolverine should have looked at the clone #24 and been like "Hey kiddos lets all use our powers and kill him" and been the leader and shit.
>>
>>90403718
Yeah my friend said that too, but then when they do a Generation X movie with these new kids (you know they will, it writes itself) that would mean that Logan would still be around and they were really trying to make this the last Wolverine film
>>
>>90403781
I fucking love the kids in this film.

When the douchebag tatoo guy with the sunglasses gets surrounded by the kids at the end was so great.
>>
Why did the fat black kid have lightning powers?
>>
>>90403885
Probably because he was Storm's "kid". But also because he was black and is what they always get when it comes to powers.

The kids have a lot of potential and have a mean streak I can see being the source of a lot of character development for them.

>>90403885

>But it still stood out to me that in the parking garage I was seeing the same cars that we're expecting Government spooks to be driving 12 years down the line?
Yes? Car technology has barely moved in the last fifty years Anon. We've shoved a few gadgets and cupholders in there and changed the bodywork design multiple times but you could take a modern car into a shop in 1980 and they'd be able to take the engine apart and put it together again.
>>
Just got back from seeing it.
Holy shit that was a good movie. Except towards the end when it started raining in the theater for some reason.
>>
>>90404154
That happened to me too. I'm glad they showed the post credits scene before the movie, that way we could leave the theater as soon as the credits started to get out of the rain.

Didn't work.
>>
>>90351933
It's not shilling if it's legitimately good. I think the last 20 min is a little flat but for 2 hours it gave me a charge few other modern movies have.
>>
>>90358313
It was metafictional. A "soulless" CGI creation that basically looks like him around the time of Origins; a mindless, unstoppable, unhurtable killing machine; even the adamantium bullet was a callback to that POS. It was him killing that corporate product version of the character. Also, clones are about as X-Men as you can get. I thought it kept things streamlined and simplified. The movie was Mad Max-esque in its narrative economy. No time for some big long exposition about a shitty villain from a shitty prequel.
>>
>>90362813
>l. They don't care about Logan or Lego Batman because neither of them are big enough to compete against the MCU.

>Deadpool grossed more than most MCU movies

Stfu lmao
>>
>>90360567
Very clear borrowing all over the movie. Not sure how other Anons are missing it. I guess because there's no Red Skull, Hulk or Hawkeye? Borrows the western setting and feel, Logan's look with the close-cropped gray hair and middling lifestyle, gives the tragic accidental killing of teammates element to Charles, spine of the story is a roadtrip, Logan's reluctance to do violence, etc. I'm sure there's other stuff I'll remember later. The movie is obviously a very personal piece for Mangold, who wrote as well as directed, but it's also something that wouldn't exist without the original OLM
>>
>>90356051
Level of violence on par with 80s Schwarzenegger movies.

>that uppity redneck who tried to come back to get revenge on the family and got his head chopped off by X-24

Just imagine this is an alternate universe from where ever the other movies go. It's never going to be referenced again anyway; it wasn't meant to be, it's a standalone film.

>sounds like you live in a place full of psychopaths

This reminds me of moments where people laughed while watching movies during parts that really shouldn't be funny.

I can't completely remember the scene, but I remember some (probably) teenagers laughing while watching 'The Hunger Games Catching Fire', when the characters went into the water after the poison fog.

A bunch of people (when I used to be in Highschool), were laughing while watching fucking 'Amistad'. When the teacher asked if we had any questions I said, "Yeah, I have a question. Why are you laughing?" to the class, and they gave some half-assed excuse about not wanting to be sad or some shit.

And someone who used to be my friend (whom I should have abandoned much sooner) told me he couldn't stop laughing about the rape scene (in the background) in the movie 'Roman Polanski's Macbeth' which was also shown when I was in Highschool (apparently the teacher didn't notice the rape scene. He apologized, but honestly I think he should've been fired. Some students were definitely traumatized from that.)

I take you've never seen the webm of some black guy trying to steal copper from some kind of community electrical box. He has the power of a suburb running through him, and yes, it does exactly what you'd expect and more.

I'm sure if you wanted to find it you could ask a /b/ rekt thread.
