The funny thing is that he's bad exclusively because he's keeping it in stasis.

Slott's whole shtick is that he wants to be the longest tenured Spider-Writer. He also loves the franchise and all its characters. So all he does is write stories that look outrageous to boost sales and then do nothing with them. He's just sitting on the franchise, and ironically protecting it from deterioration. By the time his run is over, you'll be able to skip it because nothing will have happened that lasts or matters.
