They are all different actors portraying different representations of a singular character

For what it's worth, I always felt like the Animated Series Joker felt the most "human to me;" not in a sympathetic sense, but we see his character develop throughout the series and it spends a lot of time getting us familiar with his desires, goals and what makes him tick. We see him partaking in over the top supervillainy as well as loud domestic disputes. His career as a criminal has highs and lows. He's not particularly concerned with dying provided it's a death that satisfies his egomania.

Ledger's Joker felt like an attenpt to personify an abstract, and I've never liked that kind of writing. You aren't writing a person at that point. Ledger's acting and keen sense of when to improvise accomodated for a lot of the little touches that make the character feel more "real," and it's why the performance itself is dynamite.

I can't say much about Leto's Joker since I don't plan on seeing Suicide Squad.

I'd like an origin story where Joker returns to his serial killer routes

Have him first show up as the Red Hood, going around Gotham and butchering various criminals.
At first they seem to be random killings but Batman puts together that each of the victims were arrested in a botched robbery at Ace Chemicals.

Batman tracks down the last living member of the heist and finds Red Hood about to kill him.
They talk, Hood tells him about Jeannie, takes off the Hood to reveal his Joker face, and tells Batman the other robbers threw him in the stew to distract Batman and let them get away. Batman stops him and ships him off to Arkham

Batman thanks Alfred for not letting him end up consumed by revenge like Joker and Joker promises a picture of Jeannie to kill Batman but he forgets her name.

Overtime Joker forgets everything about his old life but still wants to kill Batman and commits crimes just to confront him.

I hate the Joker how is he though and think Bane is a better archenemy for Batman so I'm kinda biased
